What Will It Take to Win?
Hooray, it's Friday! Only TWO MORE days until we get to go back to Hope Valley and find out what happens next! I don't know about you but after this last episode I've got some questions!
Will Lee live? (Probably.)
Will Gowen finally show Lucas the books? (Maybe?)
Will Nathan apologize and FINALLY admit his feelings for Elizabeth?!! (Possibly.)
Will Elizabeth finally pick Lucas?!!! Lol! (Probably not in this next episode if at all... :(
We've almost reached the climax of the season, as we only have TWO EPISODES LEFT! (Faints back into the chair.) It's such a bittersweet thing isn't it? Now I know that I've already stated my opinion multiple times on Nathan and Lucas, and I'll spare you my, "He's better because..." lecture. (Well, most of it anyway...Lol!) I will give my thoughts, however, on what I think needs to happen for either guy to win.
Yes, I shall start with the enemy (Cough!)...I mean... Lucas' opposition. (Yeah, that's totally what I meant...Lol!)
After this last episode things are looking up for the Mountie. Yes, yes, they had a fight, which caused a lot of chatter among the Hearties but... let's be honest. What does a fight between two potential lovers usually mean, especially in Hallmark? (Sniff! Don't say it! Don't say it!)
And with the intensity of Elizabeth and Nathan's fight this could mean something very good for Team Nathan. So, what will it take to win for Team Nathan?
An apology for starters. This isn't necessary for him to win exactly but I say it's needed in my opinion. It will help some people be more forgiving of his actions as well.
A date. While this doesn't automatically make him win, it's a very good step in the right direction. It doesn't even have to be a "date date" for say but just something that's aquivilent to one. Elizabeth will then finally have a chance to explore her feelings for Nathan in a setting that's not surrounded by children that need her attention, and is not a problem she's trying to help with. It will also show us Hearties Nathan's romance skills, which is a big thing. Will he go all out and get flowers and candles, or will it be super simple? I think Nathan has it in him to create a romantic and thoughtful date. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
Spark flying moments. Yes this is different then a date. A date isn't a total absolute must, (Although it would be weird if she picked Nathan and they never had a date.) but to see their mutual attraction and have some breathless moments totally is. Nathan and Elizabeth have failed to have a lot of these both this season and last season. Problems have always seemed to brought them together for most of the big stories. Allie, Nathan's father, the windstorm... And while these have allowed both Elizabeth and Nathan to get to know each other, scenes like when their hands touched in the library haven't been super abundant. Or at least they haven't had the same amount of flirty banter or romantic scenes Lucas and Elizabeth have. I believe I read or heard this from another Heartie somewhere, but the writers have to make us fall in love with Nathan if they want Elizabeth to. Nathan has had his moments that were appealing to me, or made me smile, and his whole childhood story can really make a person get behind him and understand his character more. But...(Please forgive me Team Nathan) Nathan always seems to be moody or upset about something. Doesn't mean he's a bad character, but should he be the one Elizabeth chooses I expect to see a lot more smiles and flirty banter going on.
Maybe some danger, and Nathan saving the day. If Nathan saves Elizabeth's life all us Team Lucas fans can kiss our dreams for Lucas and Elizabeth goodbye. This could really seal the deal. If we get another "saving Elizabeth from the mine" scene...yeah that really would be the last nail in the Team Lucas coffin.

Lucas
We shall now move onto the best...I mean...the other side of this triangle. (Cough!)
Lucas and Elizabeth have had their fair share of moments since Lucas first came to town, and a lot of them have been about just them. They've shared their pasts, their hobbies, and their hopes and dreams with each other. And let us not forget that Lucas got the first date. This all however could easily come to nought should Elizabeth suddenly decided that she likes Nathan better. Lucas isn't in the clear, and when it comes to action scenes, like Brian Bird said on Twitter, Lucas needs to step up his game. But despite the fact that Nathan wins all the polls, and seems to have one upped Lucas right now, I still think that Lucas has a chance. What will it take for him to beat out the Mountie?
A fight. Yes, Elizabeth and Lucas need some tension in their lives. Something to shake things up and make them realize how much they care about each other. And this whole thing with Gowen is the perfect opportunity! Once Elizabeth catches wind of this whole thing, she's definitely going to have something to say about it. AND should Lucas be the reason Gowen sees the inside of a jail cell again...oooo...yeah that's not going to go well. Another thing is if Lucas refuses to tell Elizabeth about what's going on, then Elizabeth is going to have some concerns, and not be happy that Lucas isn't willing to share with her. She needs to know that she can trust Lucas, and so this would definitely spell trouble. But this isn't a sure fire way for Lucas to win.
Elizabeth begins to pull away. This could be a good sign for us Team Lucas fans. Should things get "too real" for Elizabeth, should Elizabeth begin to realize how deeply she cares about Lucas or they start getting "to close" then Elizabeth could start to push Lucas away. After all, she's loved deeply before, and suffered loss because of it. It would make a lot of sense for her to be scared to love someone that deeply again. Maybe Lucas could almost have gotten really hurt, or have left for some reason and not come back until super late, making Elizabeth worry and imagine the worst. Then she'd realize just how much she cares about Lucas and thinking she could lose him would be too much for her.
A confession of love. Should we find Lucas suddenly declaring to Elizabeth that he's in love with her...yeah that could spell end game for this whole triangle. I can envision this happening after the previous idea I just explained. Elizabeth gets scared, breaks things off with Lucas, and then Lucas desperately tries to explain to Elizabeth how much he cares about her. It could be such a good scene! (Sigh...)
Lucas saving Elizabeth. Yes. Should either guy save Elizabeth from terrible danger they might as well kiss her then, because they would have won. I mean, I guess it would have to mean victory, but...come on. It would be really mean of the writers to make one guy save her, and then have her go with the other guy, wouldn't it? It would make for such a great, dramatic, and romantic scene should Lucas save Elizabeth like Jack did back in the mine! I don't know what he would be saving her from exactly but it would make for one of the best Lucas and Elizabeth scenes yet!
Elizabeth cries on Lucas' shoulder. I'm not exactly lumping this one in with the others. It's just something that would be romantic to see happen! Lol! Actually, I'd just like to see Elizabeth and Lucas hug! (Remember when Jack would all the times Elizabeth was in danger or was going through something hard?) Imagine...
Elizabeth is so overwhelmed with all that's going on with Lee and whatnot, she's tried to be strong for Rosemary and herself, but Lee isn't improving. Then Lucas comes up to her and asks about Lee, and then about her. She'd try to be strong, but Lucas can see passed it, and Elizabeth would let all her emotions finally surface and turns to Lucas for support and maybe cries on his shoulder as he holds her. (What? I love romantic drama!)
Well, there you have it! Now of course this all isn't concrete. It's up to what the writers have written for us, but you have to admit that should one of these things happen that guy's chances definitely would start to climb! I hope you enjoyed this look inside my hopeless romantic brain again! Feel free to tell me your perfect scenario for your team! (Just please no spoilers, so if your idea involves something you know for the next episodes please wait until after they've aired! :)
I hope you have a fantastic weekend! Stay safe, and God Bless!
I am pretty concerned about the next episode from the previews I've seen- no spoilers! I can't believe we only have two episodes left to find out if she is leaning one way or toward Lucas- ha! I would hate for all of the romance between them to be wasted, but who knows what lurks within the minds of the writers!
ReplyDeleteSo excited to see what is going to happen. And thank you for your blog! I am so enjoying it and wish I had found it sooner!!
So be if it shows...Nathan would be the perfect match and the majority of the people want Nathan and Lucas...if you're gonna write a blog at least be fair to both of them and not one sided..this is what causes division.
ReplyDeleteShe's always been upfront about the fact that she's Team Lucas, and this is her blog -- she can write about whatever she wants. I don't think she's causing any division! She states her opinions nicely and is fair and kind to Nathan. I'm a huge Team Nathan supporter, but love reading her opinion on things and seeing her point of view. Helps me to keep my perspective balanced.
DeleteIt's funny that Team Lucas would see all the moments between him and Elizabeth being wasted if she goes with Nathan, because Team Nathan thinks the exact same thing if she ends up with Lucas! Lol. Perception is an interesting thing.
ReplyDeleteMy perception of this whole thing (and obviously people are free to disagree, because we all know I'm tooooooootally biased!): I will be utterly shocked if Elizabeth and Lucas end up together. It's felt like the writers have been hinting that Nathan will be her choice since day 1. Hallmark is formulaic, and in their formula, Nathan has had all the signs of being "the guy that gets the girl" while Lucas is "the other guy." Like I've said before, it's possible they flip the script (but I hope not!). There's no tension or angst or push and pull with Lucas and Elizabeth. There's tons of it between Nathan and Elizabeth. Personally, I've seen more flirting and sweet moments between Nathan and Elizabeth (hand touch, apple scene, frosting, him talking about her ladling on homework, etc), as well as the classic "they'll get together signs." I've watched a ridiculous amount of Hallmark movies, and in every single one there are signposts. Nathan has had all the signposts. Again, take that with a grain of salt since my perception could be totally off thanks to my bias, but those are my observations.
As for the writers making us fall in love with Nathan...umm, signed, sealed, delivered! Lol. I've been "in love" with Nathan from the very beginning. I love his character and find him intriguing and deep. But I've always personally been attracted to the strong, silent types, so that probably influenced my thoughts on Nathan. I will say I did not like Lucas for about the first half of season 6, but as a character he's been growing on me with every episode, and I love him now too. Just not for Elizabeth.
I actually have two scenarios bouncing around in my head for how they could end this season, buuut they involve things I've gleaned from photos and promos for the next two episodes so I won't say anything until they air. Can't believe there's only two episodes left! And at the same time I'm glad it's almost over because We. Need. Resolution!!!! And I'm trying to figure out what to make of Brian Bird's retweet of your post, lol. Will there be resolution, or is he just trying to mess with our minds? Papa Heartie and his giant pot stirring spoon! :D
Great job, as always. You're a great writer!
Unfortunately, I agree with you and have posted many times on the FB page about it. It is very predictable that she will pick Nathan, I just hold out hope that maybe, just maybe, this ONE time, they will surprise me. :)
Deletewell here it gos iam team Nathan as you know but who ever she picks i will be happy for her because she needs someone in her life and jack wanted her to love again and not be alone and i am sad there are only two sundays left but i hope they let us hearties in on who she picks i love to read blog stay safe god bless
ReplyDeleteI am team Lucas as well and I agree with all of your points - it's mainly because of all the romantic scenes and chemistry between Elizabeth & Lucas that draws be towards them as a couple. Nathan has not had as many scenes with her just about THEM specifically - Lucas puts his whole attention on her and making her happy. Nathan giving her the could shoulder was a little off putting, and he hasn't gotten around to actually COURTING her (other than giving her flowers and an apple).
ReplyDeleteHowever, I feel like the writers want us to believe it's going to be Lucas and then suddenly she'll choose Nathan - it seems pretty obvious to me now with all the angst between them that Nathan will be her final pick. And as much as I really, really want Elizabeth to end up with Lucas for all same the reasons you do (common interests, him caring for her and baby Jack, him gaining the family he is looking for), I wouldn't mind her ending up with Nathan because I'm a sucker for a happy ending and want our main girl to be happy. The only issue is, I want a satisfying build up so I'd like to see some romantic moments and a date at least, before she makes her final choice - hopefully at the end of this season!
I just hope whomever she doesn't pick doesn't end up sad, alone, and off the show. What worries me about Lucas not being her guy is that he'll likely "respectfully bow out" because that's the kind of guy he is - his character would suddenly move (especially since no other love interests are available with Fiona being paired with Kevin) and we would no longer have Chris McNally anymore. That's a possibility I don't want to consider. :(
This has been my concern also, that if she picks Nathan, that Lucas will leave the show. They have shown so many scenes between the two of them, not to mention how flustered Elizabeth gets when she is near him, that it will be such a letdown if she ends up with Nathan. He has shown her constant attention and only been nice to everyone in town. I love his character and would hate to lose it. As Hallmark usually does though, I am bracing myself for the predictable to happen and she will be put with the Mountie. I just hope it is done well, whatever they decide, and we are all somewhat happy. I don't see the chemistry between Nathan and Elizabeth that many seem to see. I think we may find out when Nathan finally asks her out. She would only go with Lucas as friends, let's see if she says the same thing to Nathan- but of course, they won't be leaving on an overnight trip. At least I don't think so.
DeleteAnyway, only two episodes left to find out if she is leaning one way or another. :)

DeleteI want Elizabeth and Nathan together, but I absolutely 100% want Lucas to stay on the show!! I think he will. He is an interesting character and could have some intriguing storylines down the road since we don't know too much about his past. I would like Lucas to have a love interest who "shakes things up" a bit for him. Someone who can banter with him and is a little more feisty. Elizabeth and Lucas are way too "nice" together. It's sweet but not interesting enough for me. It seems too perfect and not real enough (again, to me). Plus Lucas represents the world Elizabeth left behind. Sure most women like to be doted on but Elizabeth doesn't need or value worldly riches anymore. Not deep down.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the experiences and losses of Nathan and Elizabeth's lives make them a better match. He understands her loss of Jack deeply since he is a mounty. They both know the joy and difficulty of raising a kid as a single parent. He has a huge heart- he had to step up and be the man of the house at a young age when his criminal father went to prison and now is raising his dead sister's child (which he has done solo for the last 6+years while fighting crime and making the world a better place). He has the same values as little Jack's own father (justice, peace, fighting for what is right/good to name a few). Maybe Lucas does too, but unfortunately we haven't seen as much of that side of him.
I do agree that if Nathan wants to win Elizabeth's heart he HAS to start opening up to her about his feelings. He has been the silent type since he came to town and if he doesn't open up and let her (and the viewers) know what's in his heart he'll lose his chance. I get so frustrated when he holds it in. I'm internally screaming "Spill it Nathan! Tell her!" I think they both have reservations and obstacles to overcome. I'm excited for these next 2 episodes!
I do agree with another commenter that I hope the writers play it out so we will all be somewhat happy. I want everyone in Hope Valley to be happy! And mostly I want resolution to this dang triangle!! Haha. Thanks for letting me comment. Take care.
Edit: I just remembered Lucas helping his widow friend Janette in Season 6. He was very brave to do that! I don't necessarily agree with is methods (gambling, etc) but that did show that he has a good heart.
DeleteI have wondered if that widow friend would show up at some time.
DeleteAfter watching last night's episode, it is pretty obvious where they are headed. After all the scenes with Lucas and Elizabeth and feeling the chemistry between them, I saw none of that last night with the two of them. And I didn't even like Lucas during the scene where he told E he sent the chapters to his mom. Probably the first scene with him that I haven't liked since he joined the show. The problem is, I have never felt any chemistry with Nathan and E, and didn't last night. So, here I am now on the fence about both of them and knowing she will pick Nathan.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I am disappointed in the direction they have taken, even though I knew it was coming. Can't wait to read your review of this episode. :)
