The Love Triangle So Far
Happy, happy Friday! Hope you're all doing well, and staying safe! We're here again. Only TWO more days until the next episode of WCTH! I'm very excited to see it, especially after reading the title for it!
So as I promised in Wednesday's post today we're going to be talking all about this crazy, stress inducing, gray hair making ride of a love triangle! Despite the MEGA stress this whole thing has caused I have to give the writers a round of applause, as they have done a great job in keeping us engaged and excited! (Or at least I have been anyway. :D ) Some Hearties are honestly tired of the triangle and really would like it to be resolved. I understand, yet there's something about the suspense that's actually kind of fun to me. But really, I need, (Let me repeat that) NEED a resolution by the end of this Season!!! And I'm really hopeful as to who it may be! Let me elaborate.
Please beware Team Nathan as this post is HEAVILY Team Lucas themed.
Things So Far
This has been quite the ride, hasn't it? Both guys have finally made their intentions clear, (or at least clearer) and Elizabeth has realized that her heart is opened again and that she likes both guys. Now who she picks is obviously THE question, and has been for a long time. I've been blogging about this for close to a year, and I. Still. Don't. Know.
Truthfully both guys still have a shot. Elizabeth has gotten to know each guy, and I can tell that both guys really do care about her. They've both done sweet and caring things for her, and both Elizabeth and the guys have shared things about themselves.
As to what's going to happen, that's another ballgame. If you ask four different Hearties this question, you could get four different answers. The main two, however, are of course either Lucas or Nathan winning. If you've been reading my blog for almost any length of time you know that I'm totally Team Lucas! And as to who I actually think could win, my answer is the same.
I have some reasons.
1. Chemistry
This is more of a personal thing. Different people see different things, or more specifically different teams see different chemistry levels. I do not feel the same sparks with Nathan and Elizabeth that I do with Lucas and Elizabeth. The whole vibe is just different. Elizabeth always gets this huge sweet smile when she's around Lucas, while when she's with Nathan things sometimes are more awkward for me. This partly is very dependent on my totally biased opinion, in the fact that I enjoy watching Chris McNally more then Kevin McGarry. (Please forgive me Kevin.) But the other part is just that Chris and Erin have this chemistry when they're together.
Recently a fellow Heartie told me about this interview that Chris McNally did with Hallmark's Bubbly Shesh Podcast. (You know who you are fellow Heartie.💗 ;) In it Chris tells how he got the role of Lucas, and it's quite interesting. Here's the link if you want to check it out. https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/thebubblysesh/chris-mcnally-interview-when-calls-the-heart
For anyone who doesn't know the story, he apparently auditioned for the role of Nathan AND the role of Lucas. He wasn't happy with his Lucas audition, but his Nathan one went well, and so Chris flew to Canada to do a chemistry reading as Nathan with Erin Krakow. Then afterward the people running the whole thing asked him would he stay a little longer to ALSO audition as Lucas because they thought he would be good for that role. He did it, feeling much better about this audition, and he got the role! Henceforth Lucas Bouchard was born!
I have two comments about this.
First off, Lucas could have been Nathan! (Well, you get what I mean!) That's crazy to think about now, isn't it? I might of been Team Nathan!
And secondly, is the fact that Chris got to do TWO auditions. The people casting the roles actually liked Chris as Nathan and the chemistry reading with Erin obviously went well if they could see his potential as Lucas. If the chemistry was there, and is there, why not pick him?
Of course I've never heard how Kevin McGarry's audition happened or how it went. I'm actually very interested to hear it, so, without spoiling anything, if someone knows I'd appreciate it if they could let me know, as I've never heard or read about it anywhere. Who knows? Maybe it would knock this theory down.
2. Romantic Moments
This is one of my strongest reasons. In my opinion, I just don't think that Nathan and Elizabeth have had the necessary romantic scenes YET for her to pick him. Most of the things they've done together haven't been about just them. They've been about Allie, Nathan's father issues, or a student, which sometimes gives more of a "teacher with a student's parent" vibe. Honestly, in my opinion, Nathan needs Elizabeth, more than Elizabeth needs Nathan. Nathan has been through a lot, and needs someone to love him, someone he can finally trust. But I don't see Elizabeth actually needing Nathan. Then again I guess you could say that she doesn't need Lucas either, but Lucas does have a lot to offer Elizabeth. (Not that Nathan doesn't have anything to offer either.)
With Elizabeth and Lucas, most of their time together has been about each other. They've shared their pasts, they've worked together to bring the library to Hope Valley, and they can challenge each other like no one else. Not to mention they've had MANY romantic moments together, and often have this flirty banter going.
Lucas has done SO much for Elizabeth. Every dream he's discovered of hers he tries to make it come true, and encourages Elizabeth to go for it.
Ensue my Lucas should win lecture.
Lucas and Elizabeth make each other better people. Elizabeth has been through so, SO much in her life. She was always worrying about Jack getting hurt or leaving. Jack left for a job, came back, and then Elizabeth was worrying about him getting hurt, which made her realize her greatest fear was losing Jack. Jack would leave to escort a payroll, he left for the Northern Territories, came back, left again, came back, married Elizabeth, and then left once AGAIN! And they'd only been married for possibly less than a week. And then of course, Elizabeth's greatest fear came true and Jack very sadly died.
The question now is, why would she want to put herself through that again? Now of course the heart wont be controlled by things like this. Elizabeth can't help it if she loves Nathan. (If. Remember I said if. Lol!) But after everything she's been through, she deserves to finally have some peace. She was a saint in dealing with everything that happened with Jack, and I think she deserves to finally be happy and have someone to take care of her.
Lucas can do that. He has done nothing but shower her with care and kindness. They both have common interests in books, and the library, and his job doesn't require him to leave often, if ever. I think Lucas could provide Elizabeth with a good and happy life. He truly cares about her and I believe would love her very deeply, and raise Baby Jack as his own son.
And on the flip side, Elizabeth can do as Jack wanted and love Lucas with the unconditional love that she gave Jack. Lucas will finally have a home, and a close loving family. (I don't know a lot about his childhood, but he did say his parents worked a lot so that's where I'm getting the close family bit from. But I don't know about this for sure.)
Elizabeth and Lucas just compliment each other, and make (In my opinion) a sweet couple.
But as usual this is just my opinion, and I'm VERY biased. Team Nathan could tell me all the reasons why Elizabeth should be with Nathan, and all the things they have to offer each other. In fact, I really believe that Elizabeth loving Nathan would be a wonderful thing for him, and may help heal some wounds from his past. And I also believe that Nathan cares about Elizabeth as well, and would love her too. I would just prefer Elizabeth to pick Lucas. I think they're cute and I enjoy the chemistry between them. But please don't let my bias bother you. Feel free to flood the comments with all your reasons why Nathan should be with Elizabeth. Or, for Team Lucas fans, why Lucas should win. (Just, please, no spoilers! :)

What's Next?
WARNING!!! Below are spoilers for this upcoming episode. Please read at your own
risk, and also please do not tell me ANY SPOILERS. Thank you! :)
What's next for this love triangle? Well, I don't know a lot about this coming episode, but what I do know has me both excited and curious.
What's next for this love triangle? Well, I don't know a lot about this coming episode, but what I do know has me both excited and curious.
First off, the title is, Heart of A Writer. Yes! You know what that very well may mean! More Lucas and Elizabeth scenes! Maybe she's finished her book, or maybe Lucas will finally take the giant leap, and ask Elizabeth out! (So they can discuss her book, of course... :D ) Looking back at Jack and Elizabeth, Jack asked Elizabeth out on their first date when there was only four episodes left! Could we get a repeat here?
The second thing is that while I was getting some pics for my last blog post, the preview for the next episode started and by the time I paused it I saw...(Brace yourselves Team Lucas) I saw Nathan giving Elizabeth an apple... (Gulp!) What does this mean??? It's actually a really sweet gesture, but it's scary for me as it's not the guy I want giving it to her. Lol! Looks like the battle continues for Elizabeth's heart. I'm very curious as to what will happen, and who this episode may point to as the possible winning guy. Then again, who am I kidding? I've watched 6 episodes and I still don't know who's going to win!
Thank you so much for reading! Feel free to comment below or on my Twitter page! (Blog Comments will be answered in a separate blog post.) Stay safe, and God Bless!

Hi! Your friendly neighborhood Team Nathan representative here! Lol :D
ReplyDeleteI do have to agree with you that the writers have done an excellent job keeping things engaging and exciting. It’s super stressful, but I have a feeling when this is all over we’re going to be able to watch season 7 again and find it a lot funnier and less stressful. But only once we have answers! (Side note: I am soooo ready for answers! Must. Have. Resolution!!!)
I laughed when you said four different Hearties could give four different answers about what happens, because it’s true! I know what I think is going to happen, but for all I know I could be completely off base. I find it utterly fascinating that we see things differently based on which team we’re on. I don’t see much chemistry between Lucas and Elizabeth - they seem like they’re destined to be friends. I see a lot of chemistry between Nathan and Elizabeth, but it’s not the sparks-flying type, it’s the quiet, steady type. They remind me a little bit of Clark and Marty in Love Comes Softly, the difference being that the attraction is there for both of them right now. Personally, I love the less flashy love stories. I like quiet, steady, steadfast love stories, with the simmering passion under the surface, and I think that’s what Nathan and Elizabeth have. I feel like if she and Lucas ended up courting, it would be a flame that burns fast and fizzles faster. There doesn’t seem to be a story there long-term (in my opinion -- I’m sure you have a different one :). I feel like Nathan and Elizabeth would build their relationship on each other and on their children, and there just seems to be much more depth and story to tell there. Plus we haven’t seen a blended family trying to make two families one on the show, and I think that would make for great storytelling. Personally I think Lucas needs someone more adventurous and flashy than Elizabeth, someone he can connect with on a deep level, someone who challenges him -- someone like Fiona. Even before Nathan came on the show, I saw Lucas and Fiona as a couple. I think they would be so cute together!
As far as the auditions go, Kevin McGarry auditioned for Nathan, had his chemistry read with Erin, and got the role. I have no idea if that means anything or not for his chances, or if Chris’ double audition meant anything or not. But I know Kevin only auditioned for Nathan.
DeleteRe: romance. Like I mentioned above, I see a lot of quieter romantic moments between Nathan and Elizabeth. Looking for the tree together, decorating the tree, having quiet, deep conversations (yes, about Allie, but Nathan also opened up to Elizabeth about his father, and she’s opened up to him about Jack in the last episode), Nathan offering to hold Jack so Elizabeth could have some time to herself, the cupcake frosting incident, the apple in the schoolhouse, finding each other simply to talk for a moment, Nathan made her a plaque with a quote from her favorite poet, something he remembered even though she only mentioned it in passing. That is all quiet romance to me. Lucas is more bold about his romantic moments, but Nathan’s feels more real. To me. (This is all simply my humble, 100% biased opinion….:D).
I think Nathan and Elizabeth loving each other would heal them both. A lot has been made about Nathan “needing” Elizabeth, but the only time he has asked her for her help was to watch Allie when he needed to go to Benson Hills to investigate his father. Every other time, Elizabeth has offered her help. Nathan is not needy. He has been on his own for years caring for his niece while being a Mountie. To me, that means he’s a lot stronger than he gets credit for. He’s been doing this on his own for so long, and I think it would be beautiful for him to be able to have someone to share the load with. And I think it would be a beautiful love story between him and Elizabeth to live their lives together and raise their children together. They both understand being alone, and I think they would be perfect for each other. They need each other.
Oh, fiddlesticks, I think we have very different definitions of spoilers, lol! I have a whole lot to say on that front, but I’ll save it until the episode airs. We’ll talk again! :D
Thanks for allowing me to post my totally, completely, 100% biased opinions for Nathan on your blog! Haha. And as always, I loved reading your thoughts. Can’t wait for Sunday night! (Great Psalm, by the way!)
I'm with you in wanting Elizabeth and Lucas, and I found myself nodding and agreeing with everything you wrote. To me, their chemistry is off the charts. I thought the audition information was interesting, too. Hope you enjoy the episode!!
ReplyDeleteLauralyn,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you regarding the relationship of Elizabeth and Nathan. It is electrifying .
I could go on and on and on but it doesn't/won't matter..
I just want to say the writing now is horrible.. with historical mistake after mistake..
And, having Elizabeth go see Virginia Woolf in 1907 is abhorrent and inaccurate to the extreme.
Virginia Stephens didn't marry Leonard Woolf until 1912 in England and in 1907 was moving out her home after her father had died .
Virginia had started associating with paganism and having relationships with lesbians during this time. If she EVER visited Canada it wasn't in 1907..
WHY would WCTH writers include this in this sweet series is beyond understanding.?
A far as Lucas goes, he makes me think of a sleazy, conniving, scheming saloon keeper, at best..
For the record, not that facts matter, "When Calls the Heart" books by Janette Oke, were about a Canadian schoolteacher and Canadian Mountie..
This may be a few weeks old, but I am glad I went back to read it. Seriously, are we sisters separated at birth?? lol Totally agree with the chemistry thing, and Elizabeth not being able to find the door may be my favorite scene so far this season! I am concerned that the writers will- alas- go Nathan's way, so I have to enjoy every scene Lucas and E have together just in case. I love the suspense, just hoping it goes our way in the end. :)
