WCTH Episode Review: In Perfect Unity

It happened!!! Jesse and Clara are finally a married couple!!! (Confetti, streamer, etc.) Hey, Hearties and welcome to my review for WCTH's sixth episode of Season 7, In Perfect Unity! Oh, the stress! We've only got four more episodes this season! (Sniff...) It's a sad and exciting time! I'm very sad that there are only a couple episodes left, but I'm excited to get to (hopefully) the end of this love triangle! I have to tell you that this episode actually gave me some hope for Lucas! (But more about him later!) Here are a few notes before we get to the main portion of this post.

Baby Jack (Or BJ for short.) is such a scene stealer!!! Did you see his face as Elizabeth was talking to Robert? Oh, my goodness! Lol! I have no idea what he was looking at, but that sweet little boy totally took the spotlight! I just kept watching him instead of Elizabeth! :D

Abigail was not mentioned AT ALL! Not a trace of her was in this episode except of course for her name in the cafe. Again I know why, but just thinking literally about this show and how important she was makes it weird. I mean, Clara is her daughter in law, and Clara never mentioned once about being sad that Abigail wouldn't be at her wedding. I'm fine with how things are, but I had to point this out. (Not hatin, just statin. :)

Faith did not show up. Actually Carson didn't really have a huge part in this episode. It's sad for him that his girl couldn't be there, but I haven't given up hope on her yet! She could still show up! And if not now, then maybe next season!

Gustave is a master cake maker! I mean, wow! This is 1917 or something, and not the city! Also, I think that cart was pretty tiny for the tall Lucas to push! Lol!

And lastly, how did it not even cross Jesse and Clara's minds to ask Pastor Frank to preform the ceremony!?! Or even for him just to attend the wedding! It doesn't mean he had to come, but wouldn't they have asked him, and then said some comment about how he couldn't be there? He was like a father to Jesse! This doesn't make sense to me, and yet it does.

Oh, and by the way, Happy April Fools! I'm not going to be playing any jokes here, but I will tell you the thought of titling this post, "LUCAS WINS!" sounded pretty funny in my head. (But I couldn't do that to you guys! :) Anyhow, onto the review!

Pastor Zeke

Well, here he is! Hope Valley's new pastor, Zeke! First off, interesting name choice. I wouldn't have guessed it, but it adds some color to our current cast of characters. Second, I really didn't get to see much of him, but so far he seems nice. He has more personality than Kevin, but I'd still like to see more. Then again, we just met him. Maybe he'll develop more and we'll learn more about him as the season continues.
But FINALLY Hope Valley has a pastor again! It's been a very long time. It will be interesting to see if we'll get to see the town going to church more now, and what Zeke's preaching is like. I'm also very interested to see who may become his love interest. Which brings me to my final point.
I do NOT think that he is for Elizabeth. I also don't think that he's competition for Lucas and Nathan. I mean the writers could throw it in there if they wanted and make the guy have a crush on her, but Elizabeth would probably turn him down and not be interested in him. Rest assure Hearties I believe that the true contenders if not the only ones are Lucas and Nathan.

Mountie Robert

(Gulp!) That must have taken some gumption to walk up to a Mountie's widow and say "I want to be a Mountie!" Now this whole story line was good. It really came out of nowhere and surprised me. But it also makes sense. Why wouldn't at least one kid want to be a Mountie after knowing Jack? (Although I thought Robert wanted to be a doctor? Guess the blood got to him. Lol!)
As for Elizabeth's response she did well. She totally could have tried to talk him out of it, even Nathan thought that's what she wanted him to do, but she didn't. She respected Robert's decision and acted wisely getting Nathan involved to show him what it's really like. (More on Nathan and Elizabeth later.)

Then we got to see Nathan chase after a bandit! Which is where this guy comes in! I'd heard about him being in an episode of this Season awhile ago, but never was sure who he would play. Now I know! He's a horse thief! (Yikes! People were hung for those things back in the day!) Not only did we get to see Nathan's "Mountying" skills (Yes, that's not a word) but we got to see his floppy hair after he tackled the guy! Okay I guess I need to elaborate on this.
Me and my friends have this thing about when the guys hair gets messed up and flops over. It's kind of like a wood chopping scene for us. Jack had it happen when he tackled Billy, Lucas had it when he tackled Amos, and Nathan has had it when he got blown up and now this. Call me crazy, but I find it attractive when the guys hair flops down and out of place! :)

Anyhow, after further examination Robert decided to enjoy being a kid for a while longer and put the idea of being a Mountie on hold.
Now my biggest question is this: Is Robert (AKA: Jaiven Natt) leaving the show??? Him leaving and becoming a Mountie is a great way to do it. However I'd feel more certain about it if he actually decided to go through with it right now. But he didn't. This makes me more doubtful about this idea. Maybe this whole idea is meaningless but I thought I'd throw it out there.

The Wedding

Yes! We finally, FINALLY got to see the wedding! First off I'm very glad that it happened now instead of at the end of this season. Now the finale can be about...something else... ;) And we hopefully will get to see Jesse and Clara start their lives as a married couple! I say hopefully just because they left on their honeymoon. So hopefully this next episode or the next will have them home again.

Anyhow, moving onto the next topic we have Clara's "wedding jitters." All Clara could think about was her wedding to Peter, and how soon their marriage ended. The poor girl! Her special day was being clouded by her fear of losing the man she loves again! After going through the whole thing with Jack dying it really helps me understand what Clara went through, and what she's currently going through. It's also very sad that her parents couldn't be there, but Bill's comment to Clara was seriously sweet! You big softy, Bill! I really like how involved Bill is getting in different character's lives. It's really fun, and makes for some good heart-felt moments.

Elizabeth was the perfect one to talk to Clara, as they both are going through similar things right now. (I'll talk about this later.)

And now for the main event that not even rain could ruin! (Of course it rained! It was supposed to be an outdoor wedding, and so by law it has to rain! Lol!) Some Hearties may hate me for this or say I'm disloyal, but Team Classe's wedding probably beat Jack and Elizabeth's in my opinion. This has to be one of, if not the best weddings Hope Valley has ever had! The whole feel of it was like a mystical fairy tale. The plants, the flowers, the light, and...Clara's whole look! Yes! She wore her hair down! And the curls! She looked like a princess! And I actually like her dress better than Elizabeth's! (Please forgive me Erin and the Hearties who disagree!) Again it made her look like a fairy tale princess.

However...the nails...Yikes! I've seen a lot of comments talking about them, and I too am NOT a fan! They felt very out of place, especially for Hope Valley. I mean, they don't even have a hair salon, let alone a nail salon! And how on earth did she keep them like that until the wedding! She sews clothes, and washes dishes, and who knows what else! (Sigh) Oh, well... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyhow, moving on. My favorite bridesmaid dress was definitely Fiona's! The color, and the style were both pretty and just my personal favorite of the three dresses. (Then again, my favorite color is blue, so... ;)

And Jesse was just speechless at the sight of Clara! I wonder if the actor, Aren Buchholz, waited until they were filming that scene to see Eva Bourne in the dress and everything. Just like Daniel Lissing did for Jack and Elizabeth's wedding. And let's not forget the tear filled eyes of both Jesse and Clara as they said their vows.

Jesse was so sweet in this episode! Both him and Clara are just so kind, caring, and very in love! Jesse was there to comfort Clara and remind her that all that mattered was them. The flowers and dresses are just details. What really mattered was that they love each other. That's all!

Baby Jack was precious as the ring barer, and Lee and Rosemary's speeches were sweet and meaningful. And of course they gave their vacation to Jesse and Clara to use for their honeymoon trip! Man, if only these people were my neighbors! Lol!

And last of all we had Lee's car all decked out for the newly weds to drive away in. It was a nice touch to the special day.

Deleted Scene/s

NO! No, no, no, no, NO!!! How can they do this to me! Why Alfonso! Why, Brian Bird! (Cries, sorrowfully with head against the keyboard.) Okay. (Sighs softly) Let me explain.

I was going through the episode gallery for this episode, and stumbled across something horrible. There are two pictures from scenes (for a scene) we never got!!! Now I'm not the first to point at least one of these pictures out, but just take a look at this!

Now I'm not Team Nathan but I'm very curious as to what is going on! It looks like a dance or something! Maybe they did an old time dance like in Pride and Prejudice and changed partners making Elizabeth dance with both Nathan and Lucas! I mean, Lucas' arm is right there! And if that's not bad enough, I then found...(Sniff) This!

(Tears flood desk) Why!!! Oh, how can they do this to me! He's actually holding her hand! He's only done that when they cut the ribbon together and during that dance at the end of Season 6! This is what I wanted to happen, and they did it! And then they took it away from me! They took a Lucas and Elizabeth scene away from me! (Oh, the agony!)

Okay, okay, back down to reality. I'm not super furious about this whole thing, but does make me sad. If they decided for some reason that they didn't want the scene in the episode then okay. But why keep the pictures and show everyone what they missed? I honestly wanted more Lucas and Elizabeth moments in this episode, and there was so many missed opportunities for some. Now I'm finding out that there was another one, and I didn't get to see it! Maybe the Nathan one was behind the scenes stuff, but with the way everyone else looks I just don't know if it is. Lucas' picture however is definitely not behind the scenes footage, and I may have to spend the rest of my life just wondering what happened.

Okay. I've said my piece. It's funny though. I saw these pictures and was like, "You will be blogged about!" Lol!

Lucas

Yeek! Sparks! Please tell me you felt the sparks!

First we have Lucas retrieving Elizabeth's coat without her even asking for it, and then he helped her into it! That was so sweet of him and very very gentlemanly of him! Lucas continues to make these little hinting comments to Elizabeth that he's interested in her, but he never pushes the issue. He's taking his time, as he needs to.
And nice one, Lucas, with that line.

"You sound like a hopeless romantic." - Elizabeth

"More like a hopeful one." - Lucas

(Applause, applause) Good comeback! Next we got another Lucas and Baby Jack moment. I mean, he literally just stopped Elizabeth to say hello to her and BJ! (Aww!) AND! He also shook BJ's hand! Now it's not just Nathan who's done that!

And lastly, but certainly not least we have that moment in the library! (Sigh!) I felt something! Please tell me you did! I mean, first we have Lucas kindly offering to put Elizabeth's books away for her. (Again, sweet, and gentlemanly of him.) And then, (Sigh) and then we have that moment when their eyes locked! It may have only been for a few seconds but something happened there! And Elizabeth must have realized it, because she felt the need to bolt for the door! (And she couldn't even find it! Lol!)

This truly showed that Elizabeth feels something when she's around Lucas. After all you don't start reaching nervously for a doorknob for nothing. Lucas definitely has a shot at winning Elizabeth's heart. (If he hasn't already!) Lucas obviously has feelings for Elizabeth. His eyes said what his mouth didn't. Both of them were just caught up in that moment, and couldn't move. Then, just as Rosemary said, and Elizabeth was afraid of, things became real. She felt something between her and Lucas and was terrified. I am SO interested to see what happens next! And after reading the episode title, I'm even more excited! Big things could happen! In my post for Friday I'll talk about how I feel about this love triangle so far, some things I've found out for the next episode, and what I think could happen!

Nathan

Whoa, now! Settle down there Nathan! Where did you get this sudden boldness from? I guess Lucas giving Elizabeth flowers first really lit a fire under him.

Now as much as Nathan has needed a confidence boost, I would caution him with remarks like that. Not only could it be a bit much for Elizabeth, but he could end up becoming very smug. It was very interesting that he came right out and said what he did to Elizabeth. He knows that he's not the only guy that's pursuing Elizabeth and he's letting her know that he plans to fight for her now! (That's right! No, more puppy-dog faces and walking away for this Mountie!)

This whole statement, however, doesn't make me think that he's the guy. As always I still don't know who Elizabeth is going to pick, but this sudden confidence doesn't totally persuade me that Nathan is it.

Now we come to the moment Elizabeth asked Nathan for help. Again this was a very smart move, but more than that it showed some underlying feelings for both of them. Nathan just naturally assumed that Elizabeth would want him to talk Robert out of becoming a Mountie, and rightfully so. Her husband was one and he died! But this also showed what Nathan has been thinking, and possibly told us what his better judgement was telling him in Episode 1. He probably thinks that Elizabeth wouldn't want to be with another Mountie after Jack. This definitely wouldn't make him feel very confident about pursuing Elizabeth.

Then Elizabeth told him how she respects Robert's decision and believes that being a Mountie is noble and honorable. Suddenly Nathan's blue eyes started to light up. He probably felt like Elizabeth had just complimented him, which she did, and that he had a better chance.

And of course how could I forget about Nathan's habit of clenching his jaw when he's hungry. Lol! He must have been really hungry! And for some reason seeing Lucas just makes him start growling...I mean, his stomach! Yeah that's totally what I meant! :D He gets so mad at Lucas sometimes, but I can see why. I wouldn't be happy if someone was going after my crush!

Now while all of this seems good for Team Nathan, I still really feel like Elizabeth might pick Lucas in the end. I have my reasons, and I will discuss it further in Friday's post! (Stay tuned!)

Elizabeth's Feelings

This girl is starting to feel the pressure. Her interaction with Lucas proved that!

Now I do have a lot to say about this whole love triangle but I'll save most of it for Friday's post. I will mention the fact that Elizabeth was very open and honest this episode. First with Nathan about his profession, and then with Clara about loving someone again, and her relationship with Jack. She was so sure, and strong about her feelings. She has no regrets about loving Jack, and said that she'd do it all over again, even if she knew he would die. This just makes me wonder about something.
See, I knew that unless the writers showed Elizabeth conquering her fear about loving another Mountie that some people might say that Elizabeth went with the safe choice should she go with Lucas. However, if Elizabeth proves that loving a Mountie isn't her greatest fear, but simply loving another man that might help solve that problem. Henceforth it would open the way for her to go with Lucas. (Or Nathan depending on how you look at it.)

Either way, Elizabeth was the perfect person to talk to Clara. She was so honest with Clara, and may have just learned a few things about herself in the process. Clara and Elizabeth both have lost their husbands very early in their marriages, and so they have a lot that they can relate to each other about. Both girls are encouraging each other that their late husbands wouldn't want them to be alone for the rest of their lives. And both girls are encouraging each other to open their hearts and love again, and not live in fear of losing the new men they love. Will this pep talk help us get a result by the end of this season? I sure hope so! But things sure are getting real for Elizabeth!

But it was good that Elizabeth realized the situation she's in with two suitors and clarified that she doesn't want to hurt either guy. She just doesn't know quite how she feels right now! So she's decided to be cautious until she figures everything out. (Good idea, but that wouldn't really save the guy she rejects...)

And I can't end this without talking about Elizabeth catching the bouquet! As if she wasn't an obvious choice for that. She wanted NO part in it, but Clara insisted. And what do you know but she caught it. And two men in particular know it...

Overall Thoughts

This wedding was one of the best we've ever had on this show. Feelings were shown on so many levels, and we got some fun Lucas and Nathan scenes. However, and this is just my opinion, I actually wish there were more. I wish the love triangle would have been a bigger focus, but I realize that this is Jesse and Clara's special day. And special it was. I can't wait for next week's episode, though! From what I've seen it looks like it could prove to be quite the episode! Come back this Friday to hear my thoughts on it, the love triangle, and what I think could happen!

Thank you so much for reading! Feel free to comment below or on my Twitter page! (Blog comments will be answered in a separate blog post.) Stay safe, and God Bless!

  1. I thought for sure Abigail and Cody would be mentioned. When Clara and Bill were talking about the people who couldn't be there, I thought that was the perfect time to mention them -- but then she said her parents. ??? I thought they had died a long time ago, and she's not really mentioned them since season 2. That didn't make any sense to me.

The floppy hair bit made me laugh :D And totally makes sense. For some reason it is very attractive, lol!

Jesse and Clara's wedding was so beautiful! I loved it. Everything about it was precious, and the reception was lovely. And as far as the reception goes, I know some of us Nathan fans are reading into Carson taking a picture of Nathan and Elizabeth and saying "it's a keeper." It looked a lot like Jack and Elizabeth's first picture together. I'm thinking it's going to come into play later in the season. Just a thought.

I will concede that moment in the library with Lucas had some chemistry.

Yes, next week's episode looks to be quite interesting, and that's all I'm going to say for now until you publish Friday's blog post. Don't want to spoil anything! :)
