Plots, Possibilities, and Pride and Prejudice

Predictions. That's all we Hearties have till season 7. That and speculation. Which in context is pretty much the same thing. We all are dying to know who Elizabeth will pick. The mysterious Lucas or the upright Nathan.

Now anyone who's watched Hallmark Movies, or just television in general, knows that there are certain types of stories with certain types of endings. As author Willa Cather once wrote,

"There are only two or three human stories, and they go on repeating themselves as fiercely as if they had never happened."

This applies to any form of story whether it be a television show, book, or even a video game. So I thought for this post I would explore different story lines and what the outcome would be for the ongoing love triangle if the writers were to choose one. I will also give my own ideas as to how this triangle could play out. (And how I want it to!)

Wealth vs. Heart

This is a very well known plot line and has been used countless times in different contexts.

       Wealth vs. Heart
       Reliable vs. Outgoing
       New Love vs. First Love

The funny thing about this story line is that just by reading the description you know who the girl is going to pick. For example, take the description of Hallmark's own movie, The Sweetest Heart, with Chris McNally himself. (If you have not seen the movie and don't want to spoil it, stop reading now and move on to the next segment!)

-"Maddie is doing everything she can to save her cupcake business. With the help of a handsome investment banker, Maddie’s luck begins to turn around in all aspects of her life. However, when her first love Nate unexpectedly returns home after 14 years, she will have to choose between a new romance and the man she never stopped loving."-

Even if you've already seen the movie, as I have, the summery is such a dead give away for who Maddie will pick. (That and Chris is on the cover, in the cast section, and is the main male in the movie.)
If we follow this line of story then obviously Elizabeth will chose the shy, kind hearted, Mountie Nathan over the suave and wealthy Lucas.

For Team Nathan this is great news. For Team Lucas all I can say is, "Hey, Julie Gonzalo did pick Chris McNally in the end so..."

Pride and Prejudice Vibes

I have read some comments on social media saying that people have gotten as the subtitle implies, 'Pride and Prejudice vibes' from Elizabeth and Lucas. Like when Lucas placed his hand over Elizabeth's while cutting the ribbon. Think about it, even the two heroine's names are the same! I was a bit more on the fence about this idea, but after examining it, I understand more where they're coming from now.

Lucas is a wealthy newcomer to the town. (Like Mr. Darcy.) He appears to be trouble and has a lot of confidence about him. (Also sort of like Darcy.)
Everyone has him pegged as bad news and as Cody said, a scoundrel. Then along comes Elizabeth, (AKA Elizabeth Bennet) and he falls head over heels for her. He tries to pursue her, she rejects him, she inspires change in him, she sees him for who he really is, falls in love with him, and BOOM! They're a couple!
Not everything lines up perfectly, but even as I write this I'm seeing the pieces fit better. I just don't know enough about Lucas yet.

If WCTH goes down this route then it's Lucas all the way! Hooray for Team Lucas! As for Team Nathan, I'm not sure how he fits into this equation, but you never know. Maybe he'll end up as Darcy?

Facing Fears/Taking Risks

This is one of the first plot lines that came to mind after watching season 6.  It's a super probable and pretty much indefinite part of Elizabeth's story no matter who she picks, but even more so if she picks Nate.
She's already lost her beloved Mountie husband in the line of duty. Then comes along Nate, who falls for the sweet widowed teacher and her little boy. Can she face her fears and love a Mountie again?
As far as Hallmark goes, I predict that this will be the whole story line for season 7 if Nate turns out to be the man of Elizabeth's choice.
Now I believe that whether she chooses Nate, Lucas, or another man entirely, she will still have to face her fears and love again. I just think that this would be even more poignant with Nathan. So this story line goes to him.

Something About Books and Covers

This last popular plot has been used by our beloved Hallmark many many times. For example...

       Perfect on Paper
       Love at the Shore
       Bottled with Love
       And so on.

These may not all be perfect examples but they all carry the same sort of message. People who seemed worse to start, turned out great in the end. (And they fell in love!)

This story line would go to none other than our mysterious saloon owner, Lucas Bouchard.

Right now he has made a less then perfect first impression. He owns a saloon, gambles, likes to take risks, and is EXTREMELY private. I mean, where did he come from? What did he do before the saloon? Who are his parents? How is he so wealthy? How does he know French? I have SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!
       (Takes calming breath) Anyway...
Everyone tends to look down on him, making him very much an under dog in Hope Valley. If the writers choose to go this route, which I'm hoping they will, Lucas will prove he's not as bad as he may seem by the end of season 7.
He'll show his good heart and kind nature. We'll perhaps discover some tragedy in his past and get to see who he really is. And of course Elizabeth will fall in love with him, thusly choosing him.

What do I want to see???

My ideal plot would actually be a combination of some the ones I've stated above. I want to find out that Lucas is not what people may think he is and for him to prove everyone wrong. I want him to show that he really is good man with a sad past. I want Elizabeth to inspire him to be the man he could be, and for her to discover who he really is. She'll also take a risk, and face her fears, finding that she can love again. Just as Jack would have wanted. And if there happens to be a dramatic past, danger, and some tears shed, I wouldn't complain.

In conclusion after all the dissecting and contemplating I can firmly state that...I still don't know who Elizabeth will pick! But you know...that's...okay...I guess... Just makes it all the more exciting, right? Right?
