WCTH Episode Review: Sweet and Sour
Man, what a title right? Welcome back everyone to my next WCTH episode review! Hope you all enjoyed the trip back to Hope Valley! This time around there was some unexpected incidents and drama that happened. I didn't see them coming, for sure! I also wonder if things are going to start heating up soon with this love triangle. Yeek! I hope so!!!
Two things before we begin:
Where did Fiona go again??? Last episode it was Henry who was gone, and now it's Fiona. Again. Maybe they're taking turns?
I didn't make a section on this, but Hope Valley actually formed it's first jury. It was funny watching everybody running away from Bill! Lol! Eventually he found his group and some of them were excited about it too. Too bad for them they didn't even get to do any "jurying." Well, at least Ned Yost was happy. Lol!
Now onto the review!

The Oil Disbute
NOOOO! NO, NO, NO!!! Don't do this Gowen! Oh, where is Abigail when you need her? Please Henry! You can't go back to the way you were! Not now!
While I am glad that Henry was innocent, which I had a feeling he was, this doesn't look promising for him, or his silent partner. Well, he's not so silent anymore! First off he made the clever move to ask for a jury so they could have more time. (Nice one Lucas!) But after finding out about how Henry drove the poor family to bankruptcy he was greatly disturbed. And rightly so! How could he feel good about being a part of an operation that ruined someone else's livelihood?
However, I understand why Henry may have done it. I feel that he's trying to make up for his mistakes, and pay back the town by providing jobs and money for the people. If there is a threat to his company, he doesn't want to jeopardize any of that. Does that make what he did right? Not necessarily, but it does help us see his character and give us a reason for his actions. Of course this is all just my thoughts.
I do wonder if this is going to cause a problem for Lucas and Elizabeth however. Elizabeth was so happy that Nathan was helping Henry out. She's really become Henry's cheerleader, and believes that Henry is a changed man. Now if Lucas gets in a big beef with him, and says things that go against him, Elizabeth may be upset. She may not want to believe Lucas or counteract by saying that Henry had a good reason. She doesn't want to see Henry fail, and if Lucas argues against him, then Elizabeth will definitely have something to say to him.
This doesn't have to mean something bad for us Team Lucas fans though. Elizabeth and Jack fought a LOT when they first met. Maybe it's actually a good sign if there's a rift between Lucas and her. (Ooooo!)
Anyhow, I'm very interested to see what happens with all of this for Lucas, Elizabeth, and Henry. (Henry don't go back! You've just gotten yourself turned around! People are behind you, rooting for you! Don't go back!)
The Lucky One
Shut the front door! Rosemary has fallen terribly ill! And it's not even the middle of the season!!! Well, we definitely got some drama there, didn't we? Poor, Rosemary! One of the lucky ones? Not apparently. I've never seen Rosemary in this kind of serious peril. Sure those guys kidnapped her back in Season 2, but this is a new level of danger!
Now I will say that it's nice to see Lee fussing over Rosemary for a change. Usually it's Rosemary fussing about this or that, and pampering Lee. Now it's the other way around! The way he popped out and caught Rosemary in her crime was good! Lol! I was wondering if he'd do that! Lee certainly knows his wife better than to figure she'd stay cooped up for any long period of time.
Then he had no trouble getting her to stay in bed, but a temperature of 105 degrees can do that. Thank goodness for Lee that Elizabeth was smart enough to check Rosemary's temperature, or who knows what would have happened.
Here's the thing I can't figure though. How did Elizabeth not spread the germs to Baby Jack. I mean, sure she couldn't get it, but in caring for Rosemary and the children surely the sickness was on her hands, and clothes. Of course they never told us if she washed her hands first, or changed her outfit before touching Baby Jack. It's just a thought.
Anyhow, thanks to Lucas' life saving ice, (Okay, and everyone looking after her) Rosemary made it! Thank goodness, as I think Lee would die without her! I do not envy his situation. He must have been terrified! But he took great, loving care of her, and stayed by her side.
As for Rosemary, maybe now she will let the chip finally fall off her shoulder, and be more accepting of Lucas. I also wonder if this event will change Rosemary's perspective on life. After all being deathly sick can do that to a person. Maybe this will finally spur Lee and Rosemary to adopt a child. After all the season isn't getting any longer and they SO want to be parents. And now with the orphanage in Brookfield... Just saying! ;)
Their Mutual Interest in "The Town"
Oooo! The boys are fighting! Nathan and Lucas are finally addressing the highly obvious issue of their mutual interest in the town! Wait? What? Ohhhhh....I see....Lol! Man, right when it looked like Nathan was about to just state the fact right out in the open, Lucas had to cover it up. But Nathan knew better then that.
First off, Nathan is still quite annoyed with Lucas. It's amusing and off putting at the same time. Lol! Jealousy isn't his best look, but I understand his struggle.
It's also funny how Lucas just suddenly volunteered to go help spread the word about the chicken pox outbreak out of nowhere. He saw Elizabeth with Nathan and he was like, "Look, Elizabeth! I'm a good boy too!" Lol! Did you catch his happy expression as Elizabeth complimented him for his gallant effort? All the while Nathan just is rolling his eyes.
From then on he's annoyed. Calling Lucas out because he's five minutes late, and wasting his time. (Ouch!) He even offered Lucas a chance to back out because, "the town" wasn't there watching him be the hero. But Lucas is a man of his word! (Yay!) But Nathan managed to drop his prickles for a moment and thank Lucas for his help. (Good job, Nathan!)
Oh boy, things are heating up in Hope Valley! What does the next episode hold? I can't wait to find out!
Bye-Bye Faith
It finally happened! She's gone! Faith has departed from Hope Valley, and I'm not sure when we will see her again. Do not despair though Hearties! I'm not sure that this is the last we'll be seeing of Faith. No sir. Her and Carson's last words said otherwise. They are openly telling each other I love you now. That's not a small thing. She may be gone for a little while, or maybe this whole season, but I'm not sure that that means she's gone forever. Stay hopeful!
And of course Carson had to go and give her that sweet little picture! I should have made a prediction about that happening in my last review. It was pretty obvious. I'm definitely curious about what the rest of this season holds for these two. What if she misses Jesse and Clara's wedding? Just imagine how sad Carson will be. She at least needs to come back for that. The rest of the time may just be phone calls, but she could at least be at the wedding!
Clara
Oh, bless you, Clara! You've finally realized your work load was too much, and quit one of your jobs! (Shoof!) Now she can help Bill! And almost be on Hope Valley's first jury! Lol! Well, I for one am curious if the wedding is going to happen anytime soon. I'm sort of afraid that we're going to have to wait until the end of this season, but maybe that will be alright. It's cliche, but would hopefully give us a nice, happy, non cliffhanger ending. Anyhow there is still plenty of time for it to happen in the middle of the season. Maybe episode five or six?
Lucas
I've. Got. Questions! (As always!) So first off we have that triangle encounter as I shall dub it. Just out for a walk Lucas says? Sure. I believe you, buddy. Then we have Elizabeth and Lucas' funny and highly interrupted conversation. (If you can even call it that. Lol!) Anyhow, aside from the fact that it's just fun seeing him visit Elizabeth at the schoolhouse (Like Jack used to!) he also is just still being super supportive of Elizabeth's dream to become a writer. It's cute! She writes some chapters, and then gives them to Lucas to read and critique! (Yippee!) He says he's really excited about the dynamics between.... Who? What? We may never know but I know who I'm excited to see the dynamics between! Lol!
Anyhow, I saw this whole scene and a certain thought comes to mind...He can ask her out! So they can talk about the chapters of course... But he can ask her out! (Yay!!!)
Then Allie shows up with her uncle in tow, and things go from interrupted to just down right awkward. It's like any two of them can have a conversation but put the three together and NOPE! Silence falls, jaws hang open with no words coming out, and eventually everyone disperses. It was funny how Elizabeth turned back quick and awkwardly said goodbye! It was like, "Oh yeah, I should probably say that," and so she said it last minute. Her face when she had closed the door was like, "What in the world was that?" Lol! She's probably swimming in a flood of emotions right now. She may not even realize what she's feeling!
Moving on I've already discussed Lucas joining Nathan to warn the town and earn some "good boy" points with Elizabeth. But I didn't mention two important things that happened right after that. First Lucas' first response to Elizabeth once Nathan had gone was, "How's Baby Jack?" Point scored! He knew about the chicken pox outbreak and he was asking about the health of Elizabeth son! Very nice, Bouchard!
He then proceeded to ask what Elizabeth would do with her spare time, (Interesting) and just smiled at her plan to spend it all with her son. Then we got the big bomb drop.
Elizabeth tells Lucas that there is nothing like unconditional love. And then...and then he says that Elizabeth deserves nothing less. First off, that was sweet. And deep. He showed that he truly cares and admires Elizabeth. He knows her good heart, and believes that she deserves the best. Which then brings me to the second point. Does this statement mean Elizabeth will pick or reject him!!! It could go either way! It could be a nudge toward Lucas as it shows his feelings for her, but it could also mean that he cares so much that he's willing to step away and let her be with Nathan if that's what would make her happy!!! (Gasp! It's okay...it's only episode four...breathe...)
As usual I'm left with no answers and the long long wait until I can watch the next episode. But things may be heating up!
Nathan
And now we come to the other side of this triangle. He too has scored some points in this little game, but he also has kept that annoyed attitude toward Lucas. Which I understand. Now while he didn't ask about Baby Jack, or her writing, he did pay her a compliment.
"Your loyalty to your friends is admirable."
Then Elizabeth was waiting for that, "but," and found out that there wasn't one. He was just complimenting her, which she's not quite used to from him. Nathan tends to keep a lot of his thoughts inside, and so that was nice of him to share one with her for a change.
Yet despite this...yeah you know. I'm still Team Lucas. I'll save most of my comments for a separate post. I'm thinking of having a post when we're half way through the season talking about my thoughts on the guys so far. Which I guess would be next week actually! Oh, my goodness! How did we get here?
Anyhow moving onto Nathan's other scenes, we got to see him and his Mountie skills. Your a smart one Grant, I'll give you that! A bit smug at times, but still smart. He thought something wasn't right, found out the info on the guys, even discovering the fact that they're family without anyone saying anything. (Sly, Nathan. You and your little eye brow thing.) He even got a confession, and then he got the real one. Good sleuthing skills Nathan! It's important since he's the new Mountie that he shows what he's got. We all knew Jack was a great Mountie with action moves, and brains to boot. Nathan has big shoes to fill, and we need to know what he's made of. Again, good going Nate!
Does his big Mountie storyline mean something in this game of cat and mouse? Maybe. Then again maybe not. These writers are really making us have to guess, and no matter how many episodes we've seen, there is NO ANSWER!!! It's fun, yet crazy stressful at the same time. I still have hope for Lucas though! I have to thank my WCTH watching friend for some of this as they help me see the potential, and calm my nerves.
Overall Thoughts?
I felt this was a sort of a launch pad episode. It didn't give me as much Lucas and Elizabeth moments as I would have liked, but I feel that it could be the start up for future events. This whole thing with Lucas and Gowen could spell trouble for Lucas and Elizabeth. And after Rosemary falling deathly sick, will this make her reevaluate things? Perhaps start things in motion for the Coulters to finally adopt a child? I'm still hoping that Rosemary will find out she's pregnant, but, should that not happen, then they should adopt. And soon if you ask me! We're at Season 7, and everything is set up with the orphanage in Brookfield. Lots of cross-over potential for you, WCTH writers....
Thanks for reading! Feel free to drop a comment below or on my Twitter page. (Blog comments will be answered in a separate post!) God Bless!
Argh! Henry, what are you doing?!? My heart totally dropped when we found out he was being underhanded. I mean, really??? No way can they reverse all the steps he's taken toward being a good guy. And props to Lucas for standing up to him, by the way! He scored big points there for being a good, ethical man (still not on his side for Elizabeth, but I am on his side as a character).
ReplyDeleteI looove Nathan's skill as a Mountie. It's amazing how comfortable he is when chasing after bad guys and investigating. He may be awkward and tongue-tied around Elizabeth, but when he's on the job he's totally in his element! Like he was on When Hope Calls. I think that's why his character seemed more carefree and witty there - he wasn't trying to talk to women, lol. Though I'm starting to see that side of him emerge with Elizabeth. Like you said, he flat-out complimented her with nary a stutter. And I was glad he thanked Lucas, even though he straight up admitted they were both interested in the...town...lol!
Rosemary and Lee are probably my favorite Hope Valley couple. Their chemistry is undeniable, and their antics are the best. But then they go and do serious so well too! Lee's caring for Rosie when she was so sick was beautiful. He definitely wins best husband award!
Great review, per usual :) God bless.
i hope henry does not go back to the way he was he came soooo far and Elizabeth is still on his side and Nathan came a long way her is a good mountie i wish he would open up more to Elizabeth and i hope Rosemary being sick doesnt interfear with her having a baby would love to see her and lee have a baby god bless
