A Twist to an Already Complicated Plot: Updated
Happy Friday everyone! (Please forgive the late post.) Today I decided to do a quick blog post about our latest plot twist (Nathan's dad's arrival) and what it might mean concerning the love triangle!
Let's start with the obvious. Nathan's anger toward his father has pretty much shaped his whole life. It's the entire reason he became a Mountie. He wanted to be nothing like his father. It also has effected the way he treats other people. He seems to isolate himself from others, and keep to himself most of the time. Name one person he's talked to outside of Allie, Elizabeth, Bill, Lucas, or Lee? (And Patrick doesn't exactly count! He had to talk to him! Lol!) His reasons may include not wanting to get hurt again, being ashamed of his past, and so on. How will this effect his shot with Elizabeth?
In my thinking, Nathan should finally come to terms with his father and his past before pursuing a relationship with Elizabeth. How can he fully open his heart and let Elizabeth in if he is still holding onto his past? How can he love her fully if he's filled with anger and regret over his father's actions?
UPDATE: After I thought about it, Nathan courting Elizabeth could actually help as I believe that Elizabeth would help him open up, and heal. I do think that his anger toward his father could cause a lot of tension between them, and no matter what he needs to come to terms with it, but it doesn't have to totally prevent him from courting Elizabeth. (Still Team Lucas tho! Lol!)

Now in WCTH terms, they have brought this story in almost from the get go so there would seem to be plenty of time for Nathan to work things out. It usually seems to take around two episodes to see a resolution to some problems. (Bill's snake bite, Greta not forgiving her son) However this is no small problem and so I could see it taking the whole season for things to finally be resolved. What does this mean for Elizabeth and Nathan? A lot of tension if you ask me.
Moving on now to the other half of this triangle, we come to Lucas. How could Nathan's problems with his father effect Lucas and Elizabeth? Again we come back to Nathan. He cares a good bit about Elizabeth, and seems to have this grudge against Lucas because he claims to be a gambler, just as his father was. Now I'm thinking that Nathan could just be taking out his anger and hurt about his father on Lucas, and maybe that's why he doesn't treat him very nicely. (Also he's probably not very happy that Lucas is interested in the same woman that he is...)
Anyhow, Nathan knows that Elizabeth has been through a lot of pain. Now to see her with a man who resembles his father, he probably feels a need to protect her from experiencing the same pain he went through. Which doesn't bode well for Lucas who may try to make a move toward Elizabeth soon. (I hope he does!) Nathan may try an interfere by either bad mouthing Lucas to Elizabeth or maybe even go right up and threaten Lucas. (Remember Season 6?) This in return could cause tensions to rise for both Elizabeth and Lucas. Maybe not at each other, but it still causes a problem.
The last thing is Lucas' response to Nathan's father. He seemed troubled somehow about Archie. I don't know if it's personally related to Lucas or if he's just concerned about having him around. I mean, think about it. What man who just got out of jail has enough money to ride, what may have been, two or more trains, board at a hotel, and then buy drinks for everyone at the saloon? Kinda suspicious if you ask me. Now I'm thinking that he may not have stolen the necklace, but it's still something to chew on.
I'm definitely interested to see how this all plays out. At least we don't have too many more days to wait! Still hoping we get a #McNallyFinale! (My friend came up with that fun rhyme!)
Thanks so much for reading! Feel free to leave a comment below or on my Twitter page! (Blog comments will be answered in a separate blog post.) God Bless, and have a great weekend!
well iam team nathan lol i dont think nathan dad took the necklace it seems like he wants to have a family again maybe i am wrong but you are right he cant have something with elizabeth until he gets things right with his dad i think this is holding him back god bless
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to see Nathan interact with the town more too. From conversations, it would appear people know him, Rosemary for instance, but we've never seen them interact! Maybe he still feels like he's living in Jack's shadow. And let's be honest, in a way he is, even in the minds of some Hearties. Basically all of the arguments I see for Team Lucas include some variation of "not another Mountie for Elizabeth," as if Jack and Nathan were the same person. That's not fair to Nathan. He is not Jack. They are two very different men, but it seems a lot of people can't get past his red serge. Personally, I'm Team Nathan because I like Nathan's character. I don't care that he's a Mountie. Part of me wants him to quit the Mounties and become a carpenter or something!
ReplyDeleteI do think if Nathan courted Elizabeth, she would help him a lot. As you said, she could help him open up and heal. Her love would be unlike anything he's known before. But I also think he could help her in a lot of ways (I mention that only because I don't want it to seem like Nathan needs Elizabeth but she doesn't he him. I think they need each other).
I do think Lucas was being very kind trying to help Nathan with his father. It does feel like he knows something. That look he had on his face when Nathan left after inviting his father to sit with them was very mysterious. I was like, "what does he know?!" I keep wondering if Archie is sick. But like you said, where did he get that money for the hotel, drinks for everyone, train ride?? It'll be interesting to see where this upcoming episode takes us.
So I'm rewatching season 6, and I'm thinking Nathan's dislike of Lucas definitely stems from his issues with his father. He told Lucas he didn't seem like a good fit for Hope Valley way before the two men were rivals for Elizabeth's love. The whole love triangle has got to be aggravating for Nathan. Also, Nathan doesn't seem as closed off in season 6. It's only really been since the Ladies Choice dance. My guess is he thinks Lucas has already won and he wants to protect his heart from more hurt. Just a thought.
