WCTH Episode Review: Family Matters
Hey, hey Hearties! Welcome back to another Wednesday, which for me means another WCTH episode review! Hope you guys had a fantastic weekend, and enjoyed this latest episode as much as I did or more. As always I have, LOTS to say! Thankfully for Team Lucas we got some great scenes with Elizabeth and Lucas, but Elizabeth and Nathan have been talking a lot lately. Well, how about we just cut to the chase and get right into the review?
Nathan
Well, Nathan...You got a couple relationship problems this time around. But every single one ended well, and that's the important thing. Let's start with the obvious.
Archie
Nathan's dad is innocent. (Shoof for Nathan's sake!) That must have been such a moment for Nathan when he found out that it was Archie's friend who stole the necklace. His father finally told the truth. He didn't lie and hurt his family again. Very important moment. Archie really seems like a nice guy who really loves his family. He also has been a wonderful Grandpa to Allie so far, and has helped fill a void in Allie's world. Not only in family, but in knowledge about her mother.
Now as for Nathan, I know this is a bit much for him right now, but I wanted him to give his dad a hug before he left. They still have a ways to go in their relationship, but it would have been such a heart warming, tear shedding moment! Just thinking about it makes me emotional! Hopefully one day Archie will come back, Nathan will completely mend things with him, and call him Dad as he gives him a big hug!
Allie
Well...Allie's back! Still causing trouble, and skipping school. Yet I understand why she did it. She's desperate for family, and stories about her mother. I don't know how old Allie was when her mother died, but she doesn't have a whole lot of knowledge about her. After all who would tell her? Her father left, her grandma is living elsewhere, and it must be too hard for Nathan or else he would tell her.
But boy did we see Elizabeth's scary teacher face come out! Man, she was stern! Imagine if Nathan had walked in and found them like that! Nathan probably would have regretted whatever would have came out of his mouth at that moment. We also got to see Elizabeth be the closest to mothering Allie as we ever have. I still am not for the idea of Elizabeth becoming her mother, and it's not just because I'm Team Lucas. The idea just doesn't thrill me. However, I do wonder what Allie would have said about her Uncle's comments toward Elizabeth, although they probably would have been worry some to us Team Lucas fans so...yeah... (Darn it for Hallmark interruptions right? ;)
Elizabeth
And now for the main attraction, at least for Nathan. Lol! Well, these two definitely got some screen time this episode. And what do you know? He got the privilege of walking the teacher to church. (It was only once Nathan, and Lucas is onto you! :D ) Anyhow, Nathan and Elizabeth have definitely been getting to know each other better these past two episodes. And, as usual, I just don't feel it with them, and I'm still Team Lucas. But I will not bog Team Nathan down with all my reasons and lectures, no doubt they've heard many of them. But in watching the scene where this picture came from, I can't deny the expressions they had. (And that's all you'll get from me. Lol!) I will also say that after this episode, anything could happen. The story world right now is a clean slate with Nathan's father being gone. Not to mention Nathan seems to have had some of that burden lifted off his shoulders. Now he's more free to really pursue Elizabeth, and not just talk about her with his niece. (What have you been saying, mister?)
As for Elizabeth's feelings toward him, they seem to be a mixture of concern, yet there's still a bit of that awkwardness. Yet her concern feels like when she's dealing with the parent of one of her students, which she kind of is in a way. But, as I said, there is still this underlying tension between them, which I would assume comes from one of two things. Or both.
First, Nathan is a Mountie like Jack, and two Elizabeth is unsure and possibly scared of her feelings. Doesn't mean she'll end up with him, or she just might, but I'm sure there's a lot of confusing emotions with him. But for Team Nathan this was definitely a step forward for them. (Deep breaths, deep breaths...)
Lucas & Elizabeth
Well, Lucas, Ned Yost may not stock humble pie, but I think you found some the moment you read that "Luther Brant" was a widower with a little girl and was also a former Pinkerton. Lol! Alright, let me back this up and go moment by moment for Team Lucas. (Gotta savor every bit, don't we? :)
First off, please tell me you awed at that little clip during Elizabeth journal entry when Lucas brought her tea while she was writing in the library! SO sweet! I love little moments little that! And Elizabeth actually said what some Hearties have already been for awhile! Lucas challenges her, Nathan and/or Allie "requires" her support. (Just saying...)
Secondly...that glance. Oh man. We've got Lucas doing it now! He's concerned alright. And why not? He saw the girl he likes walk into church with his competition! Feels like something two people courting would do. (NOOOO!) Anyhow, Lucas clearly wasn't happy about this. And was I the only one who thought Nathan seemed to have this look of triumph at Lucas?
Then we come to when Lucas asked Elizabeth how her writing was coming along. He's totally all for her achieving her dream of becoming a writer and continually offering her help. But then of course Nathan came along, and Lucas quietly walked away. My, how the tables have turned.
Which brings me to a very important topic. Luther Brant. (Shakes head) Oh, my, goodness you WCTH writers. Really? You really had to combine both guys? Lol! I bet that's what a lot of Hearties wish they could do about this whole love triangle situation! Either way please tell me you laughed at that whole exchange between Elizabeth and Lucas! "I'm rooting for him," he says. Lol! That doesn't sound like it had double meaning at all... ;)
And then he just had to wonder aloud where Elizabeth just might of got the inspiration for Luther. Lol! Just his face as he tried to deny that he wasn't thinking what Elizabeth was suggesting! :D You ever notice that Lucas does this thing where he lowers his face and scrunches his brows when he's nervous and denying something? And you can't over look that little glance Elizabeth gave back at Lucas.
Then we get another great Team Lucas scene when they're at the mercantile! I love the whole idea of having them look through the shelves at each other! So cute! Not to mention his acknowledgement of Baby Jack. And then the whole exchange of dialogue just made me smile and laugh! Oh, what are they doing to me! This just makes me even more for Team Lucas! They're just so cute together! The way they look at each other, the way they look together, and the way they are around each other. Cute, sweet, and they better end up together or I'll die! (Breathe...Just breathe...)
Here's my final thought, and something to chew on. Remember Lucas as he sadly admitted he was wrong about Luther being inspired by him? I wonder what Elizabeth meant when she assured Lucas that, "It's just fiction." (Oooooo! What a tangled web we weave...)
Fiona & Kevin
Well, I have to admit that I didn't see this happening. Looks like Fiona and Kevin are going to be a thing this season. I'm just kind of confused as although Kevin has been around for a bit he has never had a big role. Whereas Fiona has somehow made a cover for the season, and Jesse and Clara have yet to have the privilege when they are definitely a bigger part of the show.
Besides all this...(Sigh)....Please don't hate me, but I don't really want Fiona to be with Kevin. He just is not who I wanted for her. Truthfully, I don't know if any of the Hope Valley men are right for her. But Kevin has never really had a big story, I know nothing about him, and he's just more boring to me. He also doesn't have the personality I wanted.
Now I don't know if this is permanent or not, as not all relationships have been on this show. (Bill and Dottie, Clara and Luke, Faith and Shane...) They have all come and gone. The difference here is that the idea of Fiona and Kevin as a couple was brought over from Season 6, whereas the others have only lasted a few episodes or less, and by the next season were done. None were carried over. I will be interested to see where this goes, and if my opinion changes.
Note: Fiona hitting the telephone box to make it work was great! Lol!
Faith & Carson
And the first selfie was invented...And we’re back to square one. Faith is officially leaving. And it’s not
to Hamilton. Nah, ah, this makes the original offer look like a walk through the
park. Speaking of which…whatever happened to that offer? Once Carson brought up
the idea of Faith being a doctor it seemed to disappear into thin air.
Anyway, Carson has a long wait ahead of him with Faith shipping off to
Chicago. But you know it has been awhile since Faith’s dream of being a doctor has
been brought up. Who better to do it then Carson? He’s such a loving and supportive
guy. He’s always encouraging Faith to go after her dreams and live her best
life. I think this season is helping to cement their relationship and may be
helping Hearties get used to the idea of them as a couple. I know I’ve stated
my feelings on them before, and that they aren’t my favorite, but I may be
warming up to them. (Maybe… ;)
Does this mean Faith is gone? I wouldn’t say that. It may just be that
she’s gone for a couple episodes and comes back, she could be gone for most of
the season and come back for the finale, or maybe she’s gone for the whole
season but it’s just because of maternity leave. I really don’t know, but
there’s no need to despair just yet. Anything could happen.
Wedding Prep
Well, we have the bridesmaids and groomsmen. And it turns out that Clara did ask Elizabeth. Okay Rosemary did, but it is her wedding after all isn't it? Lol! Clara's line up of girls is pretty much what you'd expect. Rosemary, Elizabeth, and Fiona. But then we come to Jesse...Come on, man! You were supposed to pick Lucas, therefore cementing your friendship, and giving Lucas and Elizabeth a chance to dance again! Why? Why! (Hands raise to the sky in agony.) I literally was cheering, "Lucas! Lucas!" as I watched this whole thing play out. It seemed perfect and all going according to my wish...and then he picked Hickam. (Actually it makes sense that he would do that, but still!) BUT! It's okay as I have a plan! Actually I have two plans.
Plan A: Hickam sprains his ankle and can no long stand up as a groomsman, leading Jesse to call in Lucas
as a replacement. (After all the numbers need to match… Sorry Hickam!)
If this doesn’t work then I have a Plan B. Well, it’s more of just a
thought, and it would only work if Jesse and Clara’s wedding came in the middle
of the season.
Okay. This actually will shock Team Lucas but I kind of hope Elizabeth
dances with Nathan at the wedding. (Team Lucas gasps, and grabs their
pitchforks) Please! Before you mob me, listen to my reasoning. If the show starts by hinting at one guy, and then end up with the other, then don’t we want
Nathan to be with Elizabeth right now? If Nathan is the obvious choice right
now, and Elizabeth starts to go with him, then it stands to reason that Lucas
may be the winner in the end. Therefore, it may be a good thing that Nathan has
had so much screen time with Elizabeth so far. (For Team Lucas anyway. Sorry
Team Nathan!) Does this make sense? Feel free to share your thoughts on this
idea, but please no spoilers of any kind. No hints or anything as I really want
to be surprised!
And finally I can't talk about the wedding without mentioning the moment that probably sent multiple Hearties into tears. Yes, Clara asking Bill to walk her down the aisle. Bill was so worried about not being included in the wedding prep, but ended up getting one of the most honored assignments. You know I never really thought about Bill and Clara being that close, but then once I remembered all that he did to help her in Season 2 it made more sense. He really saved her from that horrible employer.
I was thinking at first that Bill was going to marry Jesse and Clara since he's now a judge, but this definitely is a very special job as well.
Hope Valley's Pastor
What do you know but the traveling pastor is still here! Hope Valley has got them a preacher again! Now I have no idea of the details. Is he staying, will we see him in town, or will he become an actual part of the community. What I do know is that Hope Valley finally attended a church service again. It's been AGES! Which this is crazy considering the time they live in, and how they're God-fearing people. Hopefully church going will become more of a regular thing whether this pastor stays or someone else comes along.
Final Thoughts
Great moments with this episode! It was funny, sweet, and enjoyable as per usual. Team Lucas also got some of the best Lucas and Elizabeth scenes of this season so far! (Yay!) But Elizabeth is also spending quite a bit of time with Nathan and his family. This next episode could really set things in motion.
Also may I just say that this has been one of the most stressful seasons ever? This maybe even tops Season Two's stress levels! Oh please, oh please, pick someone by the end of this season Elizabeth and put us out of this misery! (Preferably the guy with the three piece suits, browns eyes, and who makes you smile, and works so hard to make your dreams come true. :D )
Thanks so much for reading! Feel free to leave a comment below or on my Twitter page! (Blog comments will be answered in a separate post.) God Bless!
A lot has been made of Brian Bird's comment that this triangle will be like a Nascar race, but to be honest, I think that was just him stirring the proverbial pot. He never said one would come from behind to win. He simply said it would look like one could be winning, then the other would catch up, then the other pull ahead, then...etc. All the producers/writers specialize in words to throw us off track. Personally, I take everything they say with a very big grain of salt.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I'm not sure who the dark horse would be. By all outward appearances, Lucas has the advantage. He's kind, smooth, rich, successful, easy to talk to, encourages Elizabeth. But he just feels like the "other guy" does in Hallmark movies. Nathan feels like the "Hallmark guy" in my opinion. But then, I know there are a million and one opinions between fans. I don't see the spark between Lucas and Elizabeth, but Team Lucas people do. Team Nathan people see the spark between Elizabeth and Nathan, while Lucas fans don't. I find it highly interesting that perspectives are varied based on which team someone is on. I'd love to know what an unbiased person's opinion on this whole triangle is. It seems obvious to me that Nathan is the right choice, while it seems obvious to you that Lucas is. But, like you, I just want this darned triangle to be resolved!!
I'm really hoping the writers give us an explanation at the end of the season as to why they purposefully wanted to divide Hearties between Nathan and Lucas. Seems like quite the gamble to me (Lucas would approve 😜). I'm on pins and needles this season!!!
