A Moment in Time: Elizabeth Meets Lucas
It was a monumental moment in time. The moment when their eyes first meet, and the first half of the famous love triangle started. For one it seemed to be love at first sight, while for the other it seemed to be more of the opposite.
Hey Hearties, and welcome to my second addition of, A Moment in Time! Christmas is fast approaching with only 7 DAYS to go! (Sniff, I'm going to miss this brightly colored time of year.) The HIGHLY anticipated WCTH Christmas Special is almost here! I think this is the most excited I've ever been for a WCTH Christmas Special, or Season alone. (And I don't need to explain why.)
Now before we dive into the moment, I thought I'd let you all know that I'll be taking a break this next week, so you won't hear very much from me here on my blog until the New Year. (Unless it's me wishing you a Merry Christmas!)
Now let's get to the moment! There are some obvious things that take place.
1. Lucas was intrigued at first sight. He literally handed her the job on a silver platter before he even knew what her name was. No interview, no questions asked, he just gave it to her, and it's very clear why.
2. Elizabeth was intrigued as well. She wasn't ready for a relationship yet, but that didn't stop her from playing along with him. Plus you can't deny that sweet smile she gets whenever he compliments her, or says something witty. Now he is the new guy in town, and the new owner of the saloon which automatically would make her curious, but Lucas is quite different than what she's used to.
She maybe played along to sort of feel him out, or figure out who he is and where he was going with the conversation.
3. Lucas did not waste a minute in trying to impress Elizabeth. Immediately after offering her the job he attempts to flirt with her, with each qualification he lists being a direct compliment to her. Good try Lucas, but Elizabeth wont be won that easily. (But for goodness sake keep trying!)
4. Elizabeth isn't quite sure about Lucas. I'm not a hundred percent positive what she was thinking after Lucas confirmed that he was right about her being intelligent since she likes reading books. She had this look of uncertainty, yet at the same time she was maybe blushing at his compliment. (And maybe thinking, "How did he do that?")
5. Lucas reading Elizabeth hints at his past. It's kind of hard to think that he's new at owning a saloon since he seems very good at it. Plus reading people takes lots of experience being around people. That being said, I only know so much about Lucas.
6. Again Elizabeth seems to be intrigued, yet unsure after Lucas compliments her yet again. Her face goes from uncertainty to this sweet smile. (Again, she might be inwardly blushing.)
7. Lucas was disappointed once he thought she was married. Throw in the baby to boot, and he was even more disheartened. First off it's bad enough that he "thought" he was flirting with a married woman, but seeing her son just made it even more of an, "aw, dang it" situation.
This is actually funny and interesting as in the WCTH book Elizabeth first thought that Wynn Delaney (her future husband) was married and had a son. (And the plot thickens...)
8. Elizabeth was not afraid to tell him that she was "Mrs." She actually seemed amused by the whole thing, and didn't even bother to clarify that she was a widow. (Then again why would she.) Obviously she was not looking for any romance at that time. It had only been a little over a year since Jack died and so I understand her perfectly. After having what she and Jack had, she may be thinking that she'd never marry again.
I hope you enjoyed looking back at this moment! If Elizabeth chooses Lucas then this may turn out to be one of the most important scenes of Season 6! (For Elizabeth anyway! :)
