WCTH S8 Episode Review: Pre-Wedding Jitters
Ooooohh brother... Fiona... well you definitely brought some excitement to the party. Lol!
Hello Hearties, and welcome to another Wednesday! As always I hope you are doing well! Well... we only have three more episodes to go. Just three more episodes before Season 8 is over. Can you believe we've come this far already? As much as I want answers, it will be so sad when this season is over. I love this show and it's such a highlight of my week to get to sit down and watch a new episode.
I wasn't able to watch this episode Sunday night sadly, and so I watched it Monday morning. And once again... what an episode! There was romance, drama, tension, and heart-melting moments.
I am just going to cut to the chase and get right to the review!
Team Classe
Oooo... Clara. That... wasn't your finest moment.
Now I absolutely understand her point of view, and to be honest.... I actually thought Jesse and Hickam were eating the party food too. (I may have even been telling Jesse how stupid he was to his TV face... Hehe...oops...) But wow... Oh Jesse! You poor, sweet soul! You knew better! (And after finding that out I instantly apologized to him. :)
Clara and Jesse still have a ways to go when it comes to trusting each other. Clara felt absolutely horrible and like a terrible villain after assuming the worst about her husband. But she proved herself a loving and forgiving wife when she came to him afterward, apologizing for her actions. She understands that part of forgiveness is assuming the best of someone... not the worst. And Jesse was so sweet and kind to her, showing her forgiveness right back.
And of course... someone had to interrupt their moment. (Shakes head at Hallmark cliche... Lol!)
Thanks to Joseph these two are on their way to fully healing their marriage, and it's so nice to finally see them showing each other the love I know they have for each other! There will be bumps along the way, but I see great things in their future!
Pastor Joseph
Well, it's about time. Lol! He could feel God nudging him in his heart, and finally accepted his calling. Joseph Canfield is going to be Hope Valley's new pastor! And what a wonderful pastor he'll be! Honestly I think he may be one of the best if not THE best Hope Valley has ever had. He just has such a love for people, and such a peaceful and kind heart. And Minnie will make a wonderful pastor's wife. She too has just a sweet and caring heart, and wonderful wisdom to share. These two are exactly what Hope Valley needs.
And Joe... I was only kidding about the bell. Lol! I mean, I did wonder if he'd get one, but... I didn't know that he'd actually get one! Lol! And I think it's a neat idea! However, that bell has me thinking two things....
How on earth is Elizabeth going to take Joseph changing the church Jack built? Honestly, IMO... I don't know that she's going to take it well at all. I almost wonder if she'll lash out at him, as let's face it... she is NOT in a good place emotionally. (More on that later.) I guess it all depends on how he goes about it. I really think he should have asked Elizabeth's permission first before going to get the bell. Of course he doesn't have all the details, but surely he knows Jack built the church, right? Well, I'm not actually sure about that, but I guess we'll see. Maybe he'll ask her permission in this next episode or two. I really hope he does, as I believe that would be the right and respectful thing to do.
The second thing that bell brought to mind is.... Is there going to be some big disaster in Hope Valley? Joseph said the bell could be used to "raise an alarm when something bad happens" and immediately my mind thinks obviously there is going to be something bad that happens that warrants the use of the bell. Just what that might be, I have no idea. However should I be right about this, I get the feeling that this event will be what helps Elizabeth finally figure her feelings out once and for all.
I also have to mention how Minnie is now helping out in the cafe. She's such a sweet woman, and fits right in with all the other women. She also fits right in at the cafe, and I actually think her working side by side with Clara is a good thing. Lol! Clara can use all the help and advice she can get right now. :D
One final, quick question I have is this... Where is Joseph and his family moving to? It's great that he'll be closer to town if not in town now. (I assume of course.) He does have a flock to shepherd now! :)
Team FloYo
Those two are so perfect, and so in love, and it's adorable! Florence had absolutely no trouble finding Ned in that very.... interesting game Fiona introduced to everyone. (More on that later) Florence just knows her Ned. (How cute is it that she calls him, "Her Ned?" :) She doesn't however seem to know what dress she wants to wear at her wedding...
Lol! Florence is the definition of the word "opinionated." But you know what? It's her day! She can be as choosy as she wants! Florence deserves to be happy and to find the absolute perfect dress for her big day with Ned.
And despite every other person in Hope Valley... I think Florence and Ned's idea of a bachelor/bachelorette party was very sweet. They just wanted to gather with their friends and celebrate. Nothing crazy. But of course something just had to happen... (Again more on that later)
Side Note: I saw some people mentioning how Florence used the word, "kudos" during this episode and felt the term was too modern. I felt the same way and so I decided to look it up. According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary the word "kudos" has been around for quite awhile. According to their site the word was used back in 1831, and meant, "Fame and renown resulting from an act or achievement." So... technically it may have been fine for her to use the term. I just still feel it felt too modern for her to say that.
Also.... Oh my sweet jelly beans! Florence's son has made his first ever appearance on this show.... and it's Season 8 people. I was absolutely SHOCKED. I mean, I've hear her mention having at least two children, but never have we actually seen them. And I had no idea he was so... young! I mean, he should be in school! Or rather we should have seen him in school.
And.... It appears he may have a crush on a certain young girl who recently got rejected by a certain boy named Robert... Or maybe she has a crush on Paul... ;)
The Coulters
Well.... I get the feeling a certain plaid wearing man is a bit... dare I say... jealous? Lol! For so long Lee has always been Jesse's source of encouragement and advice. Whether it was work or love related, Lee always had some wise words to share. But... It looks like Pastor Joseph was the real source of help here.
All together please... Poor Lee. Lol!
As for Rosemary... Boy does she have her work cut out for her. Literally actually. She is still job hunting, all while performing her final job at Dottie's dress shop. Finding Florence's wedding dress. My prayers are with you, Rosemary... :D
And I am so curious. What on this green earth is Rosemary doing looking into land? Does she plan to build a shop of some kind? Does she want Lee to maybe... I don't know... FINALLY build that theater? I have questions!
Team Infirmary
But Carson??? But Faith??? What on earth is going to happen to these two?!? I have gone up and down this entire season with how I feel about them, and what I think is going to happen with them. Obviously they just love each other so much, and hate the idea of being apart. But... that may just be what needs to happen. (And I'm talking more than two years.)
Faith loves Hope Valley. Carson wants to leave. And it appears that he really may be leaving. He took the fellowship. Now, I have to admit I'm torn here. Carson really should have talked to Faith, and yet... All she's been telling him to do is "Go accept that fellowship!" So he finally did what she wanted, and then she gets mad at him? I'm sorry, girl but you literally begged him to do this. And I think he did the right thing. (Accepting the fellowship, not how he went about it.)
Now they are faced with a big decision. Will they stay as a couple and continue to do the whole "long-distance relationship thing?" Or will they realize that the best thing to do is... break up? OR will they run out in the spur of the moment and get married?!? I mean... Whoa! Let's back up a minute!
Did Carson really just suggest that him and Faith get married? I mean, he said he wasn't asking, but... that sounded kind of like he was asking. Lol! And Faith was clearly shocked at his words, and flat out told him that better not be how he's choosing to propose to her. :D Now... I do have to disagree with her there. It would honestly have been a really exciting and romantic thing if he would have just asked her right there and they would have ran out and eloped. But at the same time I don't think that's a very advisable thing for them right now. They both clearly have different goals and dreams for their lives. And... I don't know if it would be wise for them to stay together, let alone get married.
Again I'm disappointed that Carson is so unhappy with staying in Hope Valley, and I really wonder if Paul Greene wants to leave the show. This all just feels... unlike Carson to some extent. But at the same time, he said it right. He put all his dreams on hold for Faith. Maybe he's dreamed of doing something like this for some time now.
Fiona is Back!
Look out, Hope Valley! (And Hickam... Lol!) Fiona is back in town! And boy, did she take Florence's party to a whole new level...
Somehow it seems that every time Fiona goes to a party she does something scandalous. Lol! The Ladies choice dance at S6's Founder's Day party, arriving late with Kevin to Jesse and Clara's bachelor/bachelorette party.... And this time was no exception. Lol! I'll get to that in a minute, but first I would like to address her and Mike...
I am definitely on board for their potential romance. From the time Fiona cut his ear, I realized I could finally picture her with someone from Hope Valley. And that someone is Mike. I do want to see a bit more of them together before making a final assessment, but as of now they sound cute!
However I know there has been talk of her being for whoever Elizabeth ultimately dumps. And so I'm not holding my breath for her to stay with Hickam. I mean, look at what happened with her and Kevin? Actually... just what did happen to Kevin? He literally disappeared! And so... yeah. I'm not sure how "permanent" Fiona and Mike will be. But for now, they're pretty cute, I must say.
The Bachelor/Bachelorette Party (Hope Valley Style!)
Wow... I mean... What a party, am I right guys? Lol! I feel somebody needs to break this habit of the bachelor and bachelorette parties being so... so... boring. But honestly it's always so fun to see everyone all gathered together, and having fun. And despite how boring the guys may have said it was, the evening was far from uneventful.
Bill ended up finally having the breakthrough he needed about the stolen car. (Thanks to Ned's hilarious comment about having been "driving with the top down for years." Lol!)
Lucas made a startling statement about why Christopher is really here... (More on that later.)
And... and we had that very modern, very risque hand holding game... (Thanks Fiona...)
I have to admit, from the time I caught just the first few seconds of the preview for this episode (I always end up seeing the first second or two before I turn it off.) I already knew what was coming and I was cringing... hard. And before I even saw it happen. I was really hoping it wouldn't, and got hopeful for a second that it wouldn't... but then it did.
And I cringed. :D
I was debating on where to put this topic, but it relates to both men, and so I'll just talk about it here. So Fiona brings up this whole game, admitting it's popular back home, but a bit "risque." So obviously the woman is blindfolded, and has to find the man she's meant to be with only by holding his hands. (Yay....)
So Florence played first and of course she found her Ned with no problem. (They are just perfect like that. Lol!) And of course, who does Fiona tell to play next, but Elizabeth. Now, I feel that if I was in charge I may have thought twice about picking her. She's still navigating this new world of opening herself up to love again, and I think everyone could have given her a pass. But... what's the fun in that? :D
And so she plays, but not without a lot of hesitation. I mean, the look on her face said just how scared she was to do this. And Rosemary saw that. But Elizabeth tries to be a good sport, and so she plays along. She starts with Carson, and can clearly tell he's not the right guy. She then moves... to Nathan. Inside I was honestly hoping she would move on to Lucas, just because she stood there for so long thinking. But... then she didn't.
BUT, here's the kicker. She took the blindfold off and said... Lucas. Now before Team Nathan rolls their eyes, I am not saying that I take that to mean she's picking Lucas. And before Team Lucas rolls their eyes and thinks I'm jumping ship, I'm not saying I think that scene means she's picking Nathan. I think that scene was there to confuse both teams. The writers played it off in a way that gave both teams hope, and I know that this was done completely on purpose. Therefore, I really can't say one way or another.
However, I will bring up the fact that we were told there would be "red herrings" throughout this season. And of course the very definition of a red herring is that it is something that "distracts attention from the real issue." Could Elizabeth grabbing Nathan's hands simply be the writers trying to confuse us, and she's really going with Lucas? Or is it the other way around and her saying Lucas' name was to throw us off? I really hope not, as aside from the fact that I want Lucas to be her choice, I just found that scene very predictable and cringy. (Then again, I am very, very biased.)
I honestly don't know what that scene meant at this point. But with only 3 episodes left to go, I feel we'll get our answers pretty soon. ;)
Everyone Deserves A Second Chance
Oh my.... you guys... I... I just.... I can't with Henry and Christopher! Henry's son told him... that he loves him... and then Henry told his son he loves him too! Alright... I may need a moment here...
Guys... I am not a super emotional person when it comes to movies and TV shows... Okay, scratch that. I am, I just... I don't cry like some people may, or scenes that may move a whole bunch of people may just not strike me the same way. But with the whole storyline of Henry and his son... wow. It is so moving, so beautiful, and I get choked up just thinking about it. I mean, goodness...
I absolutely LOVE, I mean LOVE this storyline. I'd like to hug whoever came up with it, and just thank them so much. Hearing Christopher call Henry "dad" now is just the sweetest and really such a powerful thing. And then to see Henry tell his son that he deserves a second chance, and that he doesn't care what he did in the past or what he thought of him was so beautiful. And finally... that hug...
Christopher was red-rimmed and teary-eyed, his face full of love for his father. And then he hugged him and said... I love you. Again... give me a moment... And Henry... it's so clear that he loves his son, and yet he's so not used to showing love or taking it from others. And so I found his "Me too" to Christopher fitting and so sweet. I do wish he had actually said the words "I love you" back, but this actually made the scene a bit deeper. It added more layers and emotions this way.
Speaking of second chances... I think Henry is going to need to give Lucas one...
Finally we know the truth about Lucas and Christopher! And it is not what I would have expected. Why Lucas? Why?!? That was such a bad thing to do! I mean, I totally understand his concerns. Henry really did take advantage of him. He felt betrayed, and wasn't willing to fully trust him. (As he shouldn't.) But... Lucas... sweetie... that was a big no, no. You can't drag Henry's estranged son into this mess. Poor Henry. He was so crushed and horrified.
And what once was a patched relationship between Lucas and Henry has now crumbled into an even worse state.
Also... I believe that is the loudest I have ever heard Lucas raise his voice. Understandably so, considering the situation, but I just thought I'd point that out. And I know. The poor man feels absolutely terrible. I've come to know that Lucas has a very big heart and a very strong conscience. And so this totally had to be eating at him. I am very curious what will happen next for him and Henry. I also am extremely curious if Elizabeth will find out, and what she may do.
As for Henry... well that man loves his son. Period. Not only did he burn Christopher's boots (AKA the evidence that could imprison his son) but... he actually offered to reveal the whole truth about the mine disaster to Bill.
Hold up one minute... I didn't even know there was a "whole truth" to be told about the mine disaster!!! What else has Henry been hiding?!? Is he simply supplying Bill with all the evidence and details he needs to wrap the case up? Or is there more to the story? And isn't that considered bribing a judge?
I. Have. QUESTIONS!!!
I've Never Felt Like This...
And the love bug has bitten Christopher. And it's so adorable! He can't sleep. He can't eat. Rachel is gone, and he missed her. And now... He's going after her! Yes, man! Go after her! Confess your love!! Just whatever you do... do NOT get on her mother's bad side!!!
Christopher has done a full 180. He is done with that bad-boy lifestyle. No more pick-pocketing. No more "borrowing" stolen cars from friends. (Seriously, dude?) He is on the straight and narrow now, and it's all thanks to Rachel. AND his father. (Who every time he calls "dad" makes my heart swell.)
And I now need to address a very, VERY super-duper important topic.... Henry mentioned Abigail. He flat out said that she was the reason he tried to be a better man. And with this being the second episode Abigail was mentioned, and with how Henry was talking about her I have to ask the question... Is Abigail going to come back?
I have avoided talking much about why Lori Loughlin left, and all, but.... could she come back? Is that even a possibility? I believe that there are a LOT of Hearties who would be thrilled at the prospect, and then there are some who wouldn't be. I personally am fine without Abigail's character as she took up a lot of screen time and I was never a fan of "Mayor Abigail." Season 1 Abigail? YES! But I sort of fell out of love with her character as the show went on. However... to see her reunited with Elizabeth would be SO fun. And... to see her reunited with Henry? Wow. I would LOVE that!
Investigator Bill
Not bad for an old investigator. Not bad at all. Bill I have to hand it to you. That was some brilliant thinking. And how nice of you to include Ned! He needed to get away from that incredibly boring party anyway. I wonder who's idea it was to just have a boring dinner anyway.... ;) However... oh, no, Christopher. Bill is one step closer to finding you. Or rather he was. Back before Henry became a boot burner. (More on that later.)
However I find it very, very interesting that Brookfield was mentioned. Could it be that Mountie Gabe will make an appearance? That would be so fun! (I have nothing to back that idea up. I just think it would be fun if Gabe came to town. :)
As for Bill and Molly. That was hilarious. Lol! I mean, wow. I knew Molly was really bold, but to ask Bill to cuddle close in front of everyone, I mean... Oh wait! That was the song title! Oh, okay.... Funny... I thought she was just talking to him... (I jest, I jest.... Lol!)
Honestly, I am finding myself liking the idea of them together more and more with every passing episode. If you would have asked me about the idea of them being a couple before this season... well... I probably would have made barfing noises. I did NOT like the idea of them together. At all. But now? Now I think they are hilarious, and actually... may just work
Love Is Always Worth Fighting For
Well... Nathan sure seems to have got that cat off his tongue. (Okay, that sounded weird, but you know what I mean.) All of a sudden this man doesn't seem to have so much trouble saying exactly what he's thinking... or feeling...
Also... it appears Elizabeth does in fact blame Nathan for Jack's death. While this is very wrong... I understand her line of thought. I believe she's too clouded by grief to see the truth, and that is... Nathan did not kill Jack. I know it's so easy to bat the whole thing round and round, but when it comes down to it... Nathan did not kill Jack. And I truly believe Elizabeth will realize this. When she will is the big question.
As for Nathan himself... he is continuing to fight for her. He knows what he wants (Or rather who he wants) and refuses to give up. Which is very sweet and honorable... but... (You had to know the but was coming, right? Lol!)
I am probably going to make some enemies here, but I do have to give my opinion. I mean, that is kind of the reason of having a blog. :)
Something I have mentioned more than once is how both Lucas and Nathan have approached Elizabeth. Nathan has now come out multiple times and declared his love for Elizabeth. Straight to her face, in fact. But... I have seen very little of him proving his words. At least compared to Lucas. And no I'm not attributing this to a lack of candles and "almost kiss" moments. I'm speaking more to how the men have acted toward her.
Yes, Nathan has absolutely shown that he does feel something for her. The plaque, the apple, how upset he got over her being in danger, putting the blanket around her. But... I just am not convinced that he truly loves her. Not yet anyway. Yes, he absolutely feels something for her, but is it true love... or does he think he loves her due to his guilt? A guilt he has been completely honest about in this episode.
I was SO glad that Nathan finally revealed everything. What happened in Fort Clay, why he came to Hope Valley, his feelings on Jack's death, and Elizabeth. He laid everything out for us, and I'm so, so glad he did. Everything has been addressed... except my one lingering question of his love for Elizabeth.
He has now told her THREE times that he's in love with her. And every time... Elizabeth has ran away. Her face was so... conflicted. And I'm not saying it's because she doesn't love him back, or it's because she does. There is just such a turmoil of emotions playing across her face. A pain, and fear there. What it means, I'm not sure. But that face... that means something. And it could mean something very good for Team Nathan. However I have a good feeling right now about Lucas' chances.
Speaking of Lucas... getting back to the topic of how each man has shown Elizabeth their feelings for her....
Lucas has never said the literal words, "I love you" to Elizabeth, but he has in every other way shown that he does. For me personally, his actions speak louder than Nathan's words, and Lucas has very clearly shown that he loves her. He has been as patient as a saint, despite everything that has happened. The hug, seeing Elizabeth walking with Nathan and Allie to dinner. Constantly Lucas is putting her happiness first, and not his own.
I also have to bring up the fact that Nathan's intentions/actions have been shown as questionable by two people now. And yes, I would be referring to him and Rosemary's conversation in the library.
Rosemary's statement to him was so true and so telling. Rosemary was the perfect person to talk to Nathan, and I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner. Rosemary literally was in Nathan's position, and did exactly what he's currently doing. Jack had rejected her, but she wouldn't accept it. In turn, she caused a lot of pain and unpleasantness for them. Nathan is now doing the exact same thing. Elizabeth rejected him and chose to be with Lucas. And Nathan just can't accept that, and continues to pursue her, despite seeing how happy she is with Lucas.
Honestly I don't know that I consider Nathan's end statement to Rosemary completely romantic. I mean, it's romantic that he feels that strongly about Elizabeth, but.... Rosemary was literally telling him that he may be causing Elizabeth unhappiness... Rosemary who is Elizabeth's best friend and Nathan knows this. She would know better than anyone if Elizabeth was unhappy. And he completely overlooked that fact, disregarded her words, and said he wouldn't stop pursuing Elizabeth. Even if he's causing her unhappiness.
Don't get me wrong. I know Nathan is a sweet and kind man, and I also definitely believe that he has feelings for Elizabeth. I just think that if Nathan truly loved Elizabeth, he might act a little differently. His main concern should be her happiness, not just what he wants. But all he continues to do is try and come between her and Lucas, and disregards her words of rejection to him. He never can seem to accept her decisions.
Lucas on the other hand, has shown that his first and main priority is
in fact Elizabeth's happiness. So much so, he literally let her go,
thinking Nathan was the man she loved. Did it hurt him? Absolutely. But
he showed her true love by not holding onto her, and letting her make
her own choices. And in turn... she came right back to him.
The only loop-hole in this whole thing is that I believe Elizabeth gave Nathan hope in episode 2, even if she didn't try to. She told him that the reason she couldn't be with him is because he's a Mountie and that it would hurt too much if she lost him like she lost Jack. And so he seems to think that she loves him, but is too afraid to be with him due to his job. Therefore he may think his actions are justified, and that she truly does love him. And who knows, to be honest. Maybe he's dead right, and she really does love him. Maybe he really does love her. I don't know.
All I'm saying is that for me personally, I don't think Nathan has proven that he really does love Elizabeth. (I now would like to beg Team Nathan for mercy, and to maybe not use too much tar and feathers on me... :)
Now... I have to address something with Mr. Nathan.... Just when exactly did you start playing poker, buddy? I was quite shocked when he outright agreed to play cards. And it's not that I have anything against playing cards, or even him playing cards. He's just failed to do that for almost three seasons, and due to his past with his gambling father I thought it had been intentional. Now all the sudden he's okay with that? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Oh, well... It is nice to see him hanging out and playing cards with the guys. Also....
When did Nathan become a reader? Again, it's not that he shouldn't be one, and I can definitely see him as the "reading type of guy." It's just that once again, he never made mention of that before, and showed very little interest in reading, or the library in general. (But that probably had to do with Lucas. Lol!) I guess you learn something everyday. (I also just got a really sweet picture of him reading, Little Women, to a tiny Allie. :)
I also want to make a very small, very "Team Lucas-ish" remark about that hand holding game. Nathan... dude... stop rubbing your thumbs over Elizabeth's hands! Lol! (As I said, very "Team Lucas-ish.")
So when it comes down to it on my feelings for where Elizabeth and Nathan stand... I DON'T KNOW! Lol! I'm torn! To me Nathan clearly has feelings for Elizabeth, but like I said I don't know if it's "true love" or "guilty love." As for Elizabeth... her whole attitude throws me off. Her pushing Nathan so far away worries me, but at the same time I wonder if she's just obsessed with the fact that he's a Mountie and how she "absolutely can't fall for one." They've just had so few "romantic moments" together and she's been with Lucas for the majority of the season. It would just be so... jarring for her to suddenly switch things up now. That combined with how patient, and caring Lucas has been, I still feel very hopeful that he may actually be her choice. But I know the writers can do whatever they want, and that things very possibly could end with her choosing Nathan. And so... I don't know. :D
I'm Always Here If You Need Me
Wow. And wow. I mean... you go Lucas! And yet... why?!? Lol! (The why having to do with what he did to Henry, but I've already scolded him enough on that. ;)
Lucas got some great scenes this episode! I love how much more screen time he keeps getting now, compared to what it was at the start of the season. And... I'm still feeling pretty good about him possibly being the one Elizabeth picks! I mean... how could she not at this point? :)
Alright. First things first... Where does this man live?!? I always thought he lived in the saloon. Does he have a little apartment somewhere? A whole house? I've got questions!
I absolutely loved Lucas and Allie's little chat! Lucas handled things with such grace and understanding, and kindness. I actually think that was the most "fatherly" we have ever seen him, and he proved he would do such a wonderful job in the role. He literally got down on her level, and even told a story from his childhood, showing her that he knew how she was feeling. As to the story, I have two comments... Poor little Lucas who had to watch this happen to his mother! (And I hope the disgusting cad who harassed his mother received a prominent shot to the nose. ;) And.... Lol! Oh, my goodness! He bit the man's ankle? I literally laughed out loud at that! Good boy Lucas! You defended your mother like the wonderful son you are! :D
Sufficed to say it was so sweet to see how much Lucas generally cares about Allie. He never wanted to hurt her or cause her pain. He totally understands what she's feeling, and promised to "work things out" with her uncle. (Whatever that means. Lol!) He brought Allie some peace with that statement, and even offered her some maraschino cherries for the road. (Aww!) Now I am left to wonder what exactly Allie considered "working things out with her uncle" meant and I hope Lucas didn't give her false impressions that he'd give up Elizabeth. But he relieved her worries for the moment, which was sweet. I also am very curious what the present he gave her is, and actually wonder if it will be used in the end to show both Allie and Nathan that he truly is a good man. Maybe that will help Nathan feel better about Elizabeth choosing Lucas? (I mean... if she's going to...Cough! ;)
We also got one of the deepest conversations between Lucas and Elizabeth we've ever had during this episode. Lucas went to tell Elizabeth about his chat with Allie, and... hold on. Let me back up a minute.
I found the fact that Lucas actually went and told Elizabeth about that conversation was so respectful and telling. He could have kept it to himself, and just went to deal with Nathan, but he didn't. He came specifically to tell Elizabeth about it, and his intentions. He knew how much it hurt her to see Allie so upset, and so he chose to share their chat with her. I also think it's worth mentioning how Lucas had a conversation with both women who he mentioned to Nathan in last week's episode.
As for Elizabeth's response to Lucas? She was... curt. She doesn't like the idea of Lucas and Nathan "sorting things out about her." I wonder if she sees this as them making her decision for her. But she quickly realized how snippy she sounded and apologized. She then admits that she hasn't been herself due to some news Nathan shared with her. News which Lucas already figured had been shared during Bill's send off. I thought it was sweet how he said he hadn't wanted to press her, but gently assured her that she can always confide in him.
But I loved how honest they both were with each other. Elizabeth didn't have to share what Nathan had told her, but she did. (Because that's what real couples do. :) And Lucas.... well... Lucas was ticked. He was so galled that Nathan would keep something like that from her... for literally YEARS! He knows Nathan's revelation hurt Elizabeth deeply, and he is... not happy. Let's put it that way. Lol!
He then goes on to say, "With your permission I'd like to go and find out." I mean... a round of applause for his respect. He actually asked her permission if he could go interrogate Nathan. Wow! He could have just stormed off and pinned the Mountie to the wall, demanding he spill the beans, but he didn't. He respects Elizabeth enough to know he needed to ask her first. And after telling him she would ask Nathan, Lucas respected her wishes and never asked Nathan. Again, kudos to Mr. Bouchard!
He then did the sweetest thing. He stepped closer to her, placed his hands on her arms, and looking into her eyes said...
"Please know... I am always here if you need me."
(Places hand to heart.) I mean... wow. Was that not the sweetest, most romantic thing? Now I will be honest, during the whole scene I really wanted him to just hug her in that moment. Lol! It just would have been so romantic, but... maybe that wasn't the best time for their first hug. (You know, she's currently grieving her late husband...so.. yeah...)
And what did that girl do after he had left? That's right. Her hand went right down to her wedding rings. (Starts impromptu dance routine.) I'm sorry, but Nathan never made her do that. And after that scene I was like, "Yes! She's going to pick Lucas!" Lol! Now I know things could still go either way, and other scenes with Nathan and Elizabeth sort of slid things back to a 50/50 chance that either man could be chosen. (I'm not the writers after all.) But still! Yes! Go Team Lucas! :D
Onto the party scene... Did you feel it? That's right. I'm talking about the couple-vibes! It was sweet how when Lucas joined the ladies' party he went straight to Elizabeth, and she greeted him with a bright smile. But the thing that I found extra sweet and very cute was how Lucas was standing beside Elizabeth. Everyone in the room was pretty "coupled-up" with their special someone... and Elizabeth and Lucas were no different. :) I also found his, "Wow," at Molly's crazy guess during charades to be funny and very appropriate. Lol!
As to the final game... you poor man. He really took it like a champ, laughing the incredibly awkward situation off.... including in front of Elizabeth the next morning when he went to check on her. His response makes me laugh. He knew just how mortified she was, and... just had to rub it in. (Just a bit. Lol!) It was also really sweet what a good sport he was about it, reassuring her he was fine and for her not to be embarrassed on his account. However... I think what happened clearly effected him more than he let on. I don't for one second think he was "happy" about the outcome.
He then asked if she had spoken to Nathan, to which she says that she indeed had. She said it was really awkward and..... that he once again told her that he loves her. And Lucas did not look happy. But of course before he can speak, sweet Rosemary just had to come bounding out the door. Lol! Her response to finding Elizabeth and Lucas talking was fun, and clearly everyone felt quite awkward.
But I was so glad that Lucas and Elizabeth did in fact finish their conversation. (Sometimes that just doesn't happen after being interrupted. Lol!) So a very uncomfortable and clearly frustrated Lucas asks her what she said to Nathan after he told her that he loves her... again. That little "again" with the tilt of his head said so much. He is clearly miffed with Nathan. But then again... he did tell him he could do whatever he wanted...
And Elizabeth proceeds to give him the worst response any girl could give their guy, when asked that question. (Although it was the truth.) She didn't say anything. She just left. And Lucas just received another punch to the heart. I mean... the poor guy! He has been so patient. So loyal. So... caring...
He doesn't deserve this heartache! (Breathe, Hope... Breathe...) Now I understand that Elizabeth is very... confused right now. I do. But... that doesn't make things any better for Lucas. He was so hurt after that. She basically just told him that she has feelings for Nathan. Now that may or may not be the case, and that wasn't what she meant to tell poor Lucas but... that's what he got. He's probably feeling so disappointed, concerned, and doubtful right now about where he stands with Elizabeth and how she feels about him. She basically chose him, and now... sigh...
She then invites Lucas into her house.... and of course Lucas made a speedy exit. Why on earth did she think he'd just want to come in and chat after spilling that info to him? She didn't even seem to fully understand what she'd just done after he left. (This is me just judging her face as she watched him walk away.)
I would like to point out here that this is yet another time Lucas was invited in her house and didn't come in. It really seems the writers are making a point of Lucas never stepping foot inside her house. I wonder what this means, and if in the end he finally will should she choose him.
Sufficed to say.... trouble is a coming. Big time trouble with a capital T. But... I actually see that as a good thing. A very good thing actually. Everybody knows that there is ALWAYS tension, even a break up before the hero and heroine of a story finally realize they belong together. It would not surprise me at all if Elizabeth and Lucas broke up in this next episode. Or if they at least had the worst fight they've ever had. And I would be fine with that. To be honest things have been pretty smooth for them this season, and I think a large dose of tension is in order. And... you know me. I love drama! Lol!
Honestly Elizabeth....
Oh, Elizabeth... No! Just no! I mean... why?
Alright, alright, before I go too far I need to clarify what I think of Elizabeth right now. I know a lot of people are not happy with her behavior, and I feel the need to stand up for her... and discipline her. Lol!
This this entire situation boils down to one big fact.... Elizabeth hasn't dealt with Jack's death. In the three years since his passing Elizabeth has tried to put on the brave face she always has. She stuffed down all her feels and simply refused to ever mention or truly come to terms with Jack's death. Now everything is coming spilling to the surface and she is being forced to finally face it. And of course she doesn't want to. It's painful. She's experiencing the grief all over again, and can't bring herself to finally and truly let Jack go. I also think she's currently going through the five stages of grief.
She's already been going through denial for quite awhile actually. Like...three years. She showed us this denial with Minnie this season when Minnie brought up Jack's death and the pain she knew it must still be causing Elizabeth. But what did Elizabeth do? Changed the subject.
And now? Well, I think it's very safe to say she's moved on to anger. And you know? I think this has been coming for a long time. Everything has been building inside her for so long, and now that Nathan has admitted what really happened, she's resorted to anger. And... that's why I feel the need to discipline her.
Now I totally understand her current emotions. She's so confused, and trying to move on, and yet can't. She's still grieving her beloved Jack, yet trying to deal with two men who have feelings for her. Of course she's going to reach a breaking point. But.... why did she have to take it out on Rosemary?
Of all the people in that town, Rosemary was the absolute least deserving of how Elizabeth acted. Rosemary has been nothing but understanding, gentle, kind, and a shoulder to lean on. And she knew exactly what Elizabeth needed to hear. But Elizabeth.... well... just like Allie in last week's episode, Elizabeth just couldn't handle the truth. And so... she lashed out. At her best friend. And it was not acceptable. That was the worst thing she has ever done to Rosemary, and.... she needs to apologize. ASAP! Like, a crying, please forgive me, apology.
And yet with all that being said... I understand why Elizabeth did what she did. And it's really sad. She's so lost and broken on the inside, and has yet to find peace. She's so confused and stressed, and just... really lost in the grief she's yet to deal with. And I have a feeling that things are only going to get worse. Much worse. A full out emotional breakdown is coming. I know it. And until we get there... things are only going to get more and more emotional, there is only going to be more tension between her and her friends. (And potential lovers.)
And that is the end of another very long review. All in all this was yet another enjoyable episode filled with emotion, romance, and heart-tugging scenes. I absolutely can't wait to see how these last three episodes play out! I have a feeling these are going to be the most emotional, most dramatic, most "roller coaster-ish" episodes yet! And.... we have a wedding to look forward to! Yay!
Thank you all so much for reading! Feel free to tell me your thoughts below or on my Twitter page! (Please just don't post anything about future episode promos, previews, or any interviews from the cast. Thank you!) Have a wonderful day! God Bless!
P.S. It's not too late in the season to get some merch! Feel free to stop by and pick up some fun WCTH inspired merch to wear during the big finale! https://shop.spreadshirt.com/heart-and-family-mercantile
The hand game. She so wanted it to be Lucas... but I think she thought it was Lucas due to the hand caress as he does that to her hand, when they hold hands (cue office scene from last week) and then Nathan (I find very disrespectful he did that, took advantage) did a kinda caress, so she probably took that as signal it was Lucas telling her it's him. Cue why she was mortified as well.
ReplyDeleteI feel for Lucas, he is just wonderful to her... the best man for her but I also like how he conducts his business side too with because however he needs to be and do within reason but still a good business man. My heart broke for Lucas in the end when he went to Elizabeth House and their convo.
I do agree with you that Lucas has shown his love in so many ways..
In other words, in how he respects her, talks to her, puts her first and so on. He has been pretty selfless but also upfront towards her. He told her once he would be nothing but honest with her... and that she deserves unconditional love... and that is what Lucas has for her.
Lucas and Allie scene was good. He got through to her, and took some pressure of her which I think she felt like she had. Now i want to know what's in the box lol. Lucas showed he can be a good father and more.... he has the qualities. I loved how Lucas and Elizabeth are upfront with one another and talk... and what he said to her in asking permission and also if she needs him etc (someone said it looked like a parallel from J&E scene from season 1 ??). Personally I'm disturbed that Nathan thinks it's OK to replace the man who replaced him in FC and got indirectly killed... Just wrong imo. And I do think he has guilt and its not love... cos its always with him me me me. Even the FC secret I doubt he would of told her, she asked few times and then again till he was forced. Still rooting for Lucas and Elizabeth being together. Loved how her eyes looked for him when the guys all walked over.
Wow!! Thank you again for another amazing post! I especially agree with your musings about whether Nathan's feelings for Elizabeth are true love or stemming from guilt. It's impossible to know for sure at this point, but you bring up so many good points about Nathan seeming to place his happiness and what he wants before Elizabeth's happiness. So thank you for bravely voicing that opinion!
ReplyDeleteI got the sense from this episode that Elizabeth desparately wants to move on with Lucas (from her looking after him longingly when he left the school house, to touching her rings, & smiling and saying his name during the hand holding game), but something is holding her back. I suppose it could be what TN says about her heart belonging to Nathan, but I just don't think so (or I don't want to think so haha). I keep asking myself why would she want to move on with someone who doesn't hold her heart? Why would she even entertain the idea of dating Lucas if she knew her heart was "meant" for Nathan? And then I remembered that advice Lee gave Jesse at the start of the season, about love (and marriage) being a choice, not just a feeling. I don't see how the writers would want to invalidate that beautiful message by her ultimately going to Nathan with the reason that her heart "belongs" to him or it's fate. She's made these concrete and significant choices with and toward Lucas. I think what's holding her back is her memories of Jack and the fact that she hasn't fully mourned him or let him go, and Nathan is the symbol of those memories and her past life. If she can forgive Nathan and finally let Jack go, I think that would be so healthy and beautiful for her story. She tells Rosemary that she didn't ask Nathan to be noble, and she didn't ask him to fall in love with her--she wouldn't have chosen for Nathan to love her. I think that's a further indication that she wants to move on to a future with Lucas, but she just can't yet and so she's frustrated and confused, with herself and those closest to her. I don't think she wants to love Nathan, but she does want to love Lucas. Honestly, that's why I found the hand holding game so frustrating and yet so revealing at the same time: she obviously wanted it to be Lucas and was ready & willing to say his name in front of everyone and declare her choice, but Nathan (and really, her memories of Jack) is still in the way. I think that's why Nathan was standing there in front of Lucas. He's the "things that get in the way," but I think we're drawing near the resolution, and I still have hope for her ultimately choosing Lucas in the end!
Even I feel like Elizabeth wants to move on... with Lucas... few instances I have seen (she lights up around him, she trusts him, she is upfront with him, she is herself, the near kisses and now touching her ring etc) but I always thought its Jack holding her back... and scared of moving on fully or let go. (I feel like TN side forget - Jack at times, and also seem concerned oh that means she likes N but just don't see it or a attraction there at all)
DeleteI agree with your assessment too, Elizabeth, every bit of it. Thanks for sharing!
DeleteElizabeth, I love how you articulated everything I feel about Elizabeth and Lucas. Also, I'm sorry I don't know the name of the talented author of this wonderful blog, but I love your description of Nathan and love.
DeleteThank you, Lizzy! I'm so glad you're enjoying the blog! And everyone calls me Hope. :)
DeleteHave a wonderful day! God Bless!
Hi Hope, Thank you for all your hard work and effort in pulling this episode together and sharing your opinions, thoughts, concerns, and all the things you loved.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite scene in episode 9 was the one with Allie and Lucas. I think Allie likes (Mr. Brouchard,) but she has to protect her Uncle Nathan. We can't fault her for that, and Lucas gets an A+ from me for how he handled it. I truly thought it showcased his potential to be a caring, attentive step-father to little Jack.
I will admit I didn't expect Elizabeth to be quite as distraught as she was... so I guess she hasn't dealt with her guilt. She has a lot of layers of pain to deal with.
I felt Rosemary's willingness to help Elizabeth was genuine, but what Elizabeth needed was for someone to validate her awful feelings. Enter Lucas. Yes, he got a shot over the bow, too, but he told Elizabeth that she could confide in him and she did. He allowed Elizabeth to be able to express her sorrow and empathize with her. She needs more time to sort out everything. Also, Nathan may not have understood why he needed to tell her, but when there are unknown facts that involve your relationship with someone you "think you, love," you tell them, IMO. No, I am not convinced Nathan loves Elizabeth, either.
I see lots of clues pointing to Lucas being the one chosen. It's not just because I am biased toward him. I think he and Elizabeth have a strong, bond and Elizabeth has come to rely on Lucas. I do like that they were still together, and it did feel like they were a couple at the party. I agree the whirlwind is still brewing and headed for Lucabeth, but I think Elizabeth loves Lucas underneath all those layers. Of course, Lucas would have no way of knowing she loves him, and he may not be able to handle too much more indecision from her.
I would like to make another shorter comment as to what I think Lucas and Elizabeth's strengths are.
I agree Shelby!!! That's too big a plot hole to leave open. And a person's emotional transference cannot be suddenly healed in time for a big finale. Jack would linger all through their relationship for YEARS to come.
DeleteI made a boo, boo, as usual. I meant to say Elizabeth hasn't dealt properly with her loss of Jack instead of her guilt.
DeleteHelloDolly, I agree! Even if they had 24/7 counseling that wouldn't make for a good way to begin a relationship. I always enjoy your input as well, and I hope to come back tomorrow and comment on it.
Hi, Shelby! Thank you for reading! I'm so glad you enjoyed the post!
DeleteI loved that scene with Lucas and Allie! It showed us a more fatherly side of Lucas that we don't often see. He would make such a great father to Little Jack! And I love him and Allie's sort of friendship they have. It's really sweet to see.
I'm with you! I think E has yet to fully grieve and move on from Jack. So in turn it's creating a lot of confusion in E and making her lash out at her friends. I really think Lucas has a chance too! Just looking back at the past seasons, and how much time E&L have spent together... how can the writers undo that? But I also feel there is a 50% chance for either team to win so I'll just have to wait and see what the writers decide. However I think a lot of tension is coming for E&L. I agree with you. I don't know how much more L can take with E's indecisiveness.
I can't wait to see what happens this Sunday! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with me! I hope you're having a wonderful weekend! God Bless!
I put this in Twitter land, but I will share it in here as well.
ReplyDelete1. Elizabeth chose joy in dating Lucas.
2. Elizabeth won't be happy without Lucas.
3. They have developed a strong bond in season 8.
4. They share certain interests.
5. Lucas & Elizabeth have a lot of chemistry.
6. Lucas cherishes and challenges Elizabeth
7. Elizabeth trusts Lucas
8. Lucas loves Elizabeth and wants is best for her.
1-8: Yes and yes. :0)
DeleteShelby, Good points!
DeleteFun review--thank you! I enjoy your side TL notes. :)
ReplyDeleteMolly has got just the right amount of sass to complement Bill.
I want to just hug Rosemary and Elizabeth! I'm betting Elizabeth will apologize quickly for her attack once the heat of the moment is gone.
Is it wrong to be glad Lucas messed up with the Gowen situation? We needed some flaws this season, I feel. This, and his heated words to Elizabeth in ep 3 are about the only times he's messed up.
It seems N and E can bring out the worst in each other. So much tension between them--all the time. I'm with you, if Nathan is her choice, I think there should have been more romantic scenes by now. Otherwise, a flip would be jarring. N+E's nicest/not-so-tense moment together was when he gave her the blanket. I find it interesting that his compliment to her was about being a good friend. Perhaps a foreshadowing of what their relationship will be?
I'm still 100% confident Lucas will be the chosen suitor (might also be 100% wrong, but...*shrugs*). What keeps sticking out to me is when his mother asked if Elizabeth was the reason he stayed in HV, which was an affirmative. That, and his comment about his family not being gracious about goodbyes. He has every reason to leave if she chooses Nathan. He could easily sell or conduct his HV businesses through other people. Why leave a character with zilch at the end of this season?
Whereas Nathan would still have Allie. And Nathan has had lots of storyline not directly connected to Elizabeth. A reassurance to TN fans that he'll still play an important role in HV maybe?
My last comment is the odd way Elizabeth told Lucas about the I love you...again. How did she want Lucas to respond? Declare his feelings then and there? Show jealousy? Ah, she needs to sharpen her communication skills! She has three episodes left to do it.
I agree Ann!
DeleteI don't know HOW Nathan adopted Allie his season, won an inquest, and will probably be forgiven for his lie of omission and people are actually believing he's been "Kicked down". If Lucas, who spent 3 seasons fighting for Elizabeth's love walks away with nothing, that's the very definition of being kicked down. And Lucas fans literally have zero reason to rewatch the season. (They know we're tuning in for the triangle drama)
Yeah, I don't regard Nathan as being kicked down either. His only long struggle has been with E, which he's brought upon himself in many ways. :/
DeleteI think some TN fans think Lucas doesn't really love E--just friendship with attraction. So no big deal if he has to bow out. I definitely see the love though, so I'm confident the writers will respect his arc.
Thank you, Ann! So glad you enjoyed the post!
DeleteI'm so with you! Rosemary needs a great big hug right now! :)
Lol! It is totally not wrong to be happy Lucas made a mistake! I agree, he's been pretty perfect this season, so seeing him mess up is a good thing in my book. I'm very curious to see how everything with him, Henry, and Christopher plays out. Will Elizabeth find out out it?
You made a great point! If E doesn't pick L, he'll end this season with pretty much nothing. (Except a broken heart.... :( Meanwhile Nathan has had other plotlines, ones that don't involve E. He can still come out of this okay, even if E doesn't choose him. He will have adopted Allie, arrested his brother-in-law, and finally cleared his guilt over Jack's death, and receive forgiveness from E. And IMO N can walk away easier than L can as N has yet to ever go on a date with E or any romantic outing really.
But in the end... I really don't know who E will pick. The writers could easily go either way at this point. But I do think L absolutely has a chance and I'm very hopeful! :) I can't wait to find out what happens next!
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with me! I hope your weekend has been wonderful so far! God Bless!
Really enjoyed everyone's comments .
ReplyDeleteHope I just loved your post so much! It really touches on the issues at 'hand" lol I've talked with people who are TN and I see that alot of their conviction is coming from past seasons, chemistry between the actors, and catch phrases that become "full circle's moments. For example, where did Nathan get that phrase "Love Must Be Fought For"? My guess is it's either a red herring moment, or Lucas penned the words he heard from Elizabeth in the gift to Allie and Nathan. Not all love is romantic, and it's obvious that Nathan fought for Allie all season.
I also wonder how much the writers considered the new audience coming in this year, people who haven't watched the show and don't have access to the past seasons. Putting Elizabeth with Nathan would be predictable based on other seasons and could have easily been accomplished at the end of season 7. On the other hand, it would look strange to new folks this season who've yet to learn why Nathan is even in the picture!
I also loved that you mentioned Nathan's motives and the source of his love. It's cropping up alot and
has apparently got a portion of the audience wondering how true love can exist if Nathan is feeling guilty. Even if his love is true and unclouded, the writers still have to make us see that in 2 episodes (technically). I don't think they can. Based on what Nathan shared, it would be hard as a viewer to accept a Nathan Elizabeth ending.
And I took Rosemary's impertinence at the beginning to be a direct contrast with Lucas response bringing him forward as her needed sounding board, slowly making way for him to replace Rosemary as her primary confidante.
The hand game was meant to bring Elizabeth to her "soul mate". She grabbed Nathan's hands (her soul mate) but willingly opts out of letting Destiny decide and CHOOSES Lucas?
If Elizabeth is going to flip the writers would have slowed down her relationship with Lucas. This episode, underneath all the games and Nathan's love professing they still managed to give them growth. Hmmm.
Hello Dolly, You always share an insightful analysis. To speak to your point about the new audience, I thought I'd share that John Tinker's wife said that from what she had observed was that those who are new to she show are choosing Lucas and the ones that watched from the beginning are going with Nathan. Of course, that doesn't change the outcome of the ending. Although, I would think a younger audience might gravitate to Lucas as well.
DeleteSince you brought up "love is worth fighting for," it got me to thinking about the general themes this season and what they mean. Lee told Jesse earlier this season that love is a choice. So, perhaps we have three themes being promoted: Love is worth fighting for, Love Is Patient and Love is a Choice. Realistically speaking, I cannot see Elizabeth making a choice to be with Nathan, someone she didn't date. Nathan and Elizabeth had an almost date with Allie and little Jack, but other than that there has been no dating. You don't really know someone unless you date them. I was wondering if Kevin McGarry's line to Elizabeth when she confronted him about being the only one that was invited to Allie's graduation ceremony meant anything when he said, "Elizabeth if you think that, you don't really know me." My question is does she really know Nathan?
Shelby, I saw that interview by Ronda Rich. I have watched since the beginning, and I'm hoping for Lucas!
DeleteI don't think she knows Nathan, so I think it would be sad for her to all of a sudden decide she is choosing him over Lucas. Of course we are to love everyone, but how can Nathan be in love with her when they don't know each other?
Lizzy, That's my thinking. She may know Nathan as a friend, but dating seems crucial to get to the heart. I believe Nathan's love for Elizabeth is tied to his guilt and wanting to protect her. Besides, how would Elizabeth explain that office visit with Lucas. LOL! I mean the whole internet was buzzing about it. Ha, ha! Just having a little fun!
DeleteIssues "at hand..." I got you. I see what you did there. Lol! And thank you, Hello Dolly! I'm so glad you enjoyed the post!
DeleteYou made some great points here! I really wonder if the "hand-holding game" was really just a red herring. Something to throw us off. Right now, E picking L would just make a lot of sense considering the past seasons, and how much time they've spent together. They've had so many romantic moments this season, including two "almost kiss scenes." How could the writers just throw it all away at this point, and flip to Nathan?
I'm really not sure whether N truly loves E at this point. I mean, he could, but like you said the writers would only have a few episodes to do that. Meanwhile everyone already knows just how much L cares for E. I just don't know at this point. I feel things could still go either way, but I've become so much more hopeful after these last two episodes! I really think L has a shot and could be the one E chooses! But as always we'll have to wait and see.
I'm so curious what is going to happen in this coming episode! I sense tension is coming for E&L. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with me! I hope your weekend has been going great so far! God Bless!
Thanks for your blog post. I look forward to it after each episode.
ReplyDeleteMy hope is that Elizabeth realizes Nathan represents Jack to her. She finally tells Nathan that she loves him, but she isn’t in love with him. They feel a strong connection because he’s a Mountie and she respects that, also, he moved to Hope Valley to watch over her. She’ll always be grateful for him, but their relationship can only be platonic and she will never fall in love with him. Once she realizes what he represents, she’ll also be able to take off her rings and have the closure to accept that she is in love with Lucas and has been all along.
My fear. Because of the Mountie character and Fort Clay incident Elizabeth is in love with Nathan. Their souls are somehow intertwined because of it.
Could Elizabeth become “just friends” with Lucas again, while being in love with Nathan. Could Elizabeth go to the saloon for another bridal shower and not lose herself in his eyes? Could she visit their library and bump into him without accidentally touching his hand? Could she still have a writing relationship with his mom and just be “buddies” with Lucas? Could she be happy when he courts and woos someone else?
Or could she be head over heels in love with Lucas and be “just friends” with Nathan knowing their friendship is not romantic? Can they still live in the same town and not look at each other with a wandering eye, but at a respect to the Mountie and what he represents. Can Elizabeth be happy when Nathan falls in love with someone else?
In the end, I am team Elizabeth. The past season has shown how much she truly is hurting. Grief comes in waves, especially if you haven’t processed it. I think this whole season is for her to grieve and process the loss of Jack. Ultimately it will lead her to a new love, but I think she’ll finally be able to feel like herself again, and she will give herself permission to be HAPPY again.
Thank you for reading, Krystal! I'm so glad you're enjoying the blog!
DeleteYou made some great points, and asked some really good questions! I too am hoping that Elizabeth realizes that Nathan represents Jack, and that's why she's been so confused in her feelings for both men. Maybe she feels letting Nathan go and telling him she doesn't love him, would be like her letting Jack go, something she hasn't been able to do yet. I'm not sure at this point, but I definitely can see her being friends more with Nathan should she choose Lucas verses the other way around.
And I agree. I think Elizabeth is finally going to process Jack's death this season, and finally find peace no matter who she goes with. She lost Jack so early in their marriage and she truly deserves to be happy and move on. Jack wanted her to be happy and open her heart again, and I believe she finally will this season.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! Have a wonderful day! God Bless!

ReplyDeleteReading all the comments (above), I just had a thought about the "hands"
ReplyDeletesituation. We see in prior episodes that E walked with L to her home - holding hands,
then in his office - which lead to the the game at the saloon where she picks N. Sorry - not sure if it means anything - or just a red herring to throw us off?
Also - I too agree that there will be a few mountains to climb for L and E and that
the situation with Christopher/L will pop up once again and I am sure E will question why
L did not mention it, especially when they had the scene in his office where he was
very upset. I hope that they are able to get past it. I also wonder if Bill will figure out
the car/boots scheme and perhaps that will give L a "pass" for being suspicious of Henry
when he invited Christopher to HV.
I feel in some way that E will have to somehow/someway "lose" L to realize what
she has and that their feelings are real. Perhaps when she comes to grips (as mentioned
above) with the fact that she is associating holding onto N with Jack and that it is really
not love, but some sense of security in not wanting to let Jack go. L seems to be
doing quite a bit of "observing" in regards to E & N and I can see him stepping back
and letting her figure it out, where hopefully she comes back to the safe haven of L.
I loved the scene with Allie/L - I think that his gift will be something special and play
a small role in smoothing things over. I also think that the scene was done to show that
L can relate to children and be a wonderful father figure.
Lastly, regarding E - I feel that she has so much pain left in her heart and she must
let it go before she can absorb the Love that L and all her friends are trying to extend
to her. Just a hunch - but perhaps our new pastor might play a major role in opening
her eyes to quite a few things.
Thank you for this blog. I agree with so much of it and the comments as well! I feel like we still have a million what ifs going on (and I have a love hate relationship with that. lol). I am still Team Lucas. I believe Elizabeth and him bring out the best in each other. I’m currently rewatching all the seasons, and so many of the things I loved about J&E I see in L&E (charm, candles, building school/building library, encouraging book, etc)
ReplyDeleteSome things I’ve pondered:
Was Lucas “prompted” for lack of better words to get secrets out (bringing Christopher into town) because of Nathan’s confession. Like aside from possible guilt, did he realize he has to be his best self to be with Elizabeth and that means confessing (and apologizing). It will be interesting to see if he tells her. I hope he does.
I completely agree with everything said about Elizabeth grief and I do love Rosemary, but... I mean her whole character is built on her meddling. Lol. Maybe Elizabeth’s irrational thoughts went to old Rosemary and not best friend Rosemary. I’m also hoping the new pastor and his wife has a role in helping them resolve their issues. Speaking of his wife, to me she’s very Abigail season one like. So I though it was nice seeing her in the cafe.
I’ve thought for some time that Lucas will bow out or give her space and something will happen to make sure realize he’s the one. (This is what my hallmark loving self wants to happen. Please).
Your mention of the bell foreshadowing tragedy made me wonder if Bill and Henry could cause some collapse or something as they look at the investigation of the mine??? Or will something happen with the oil company again and Lucas possibly be hurt or Elizabeth thinks he is... (still thinking of the picture from finale that was tweeted)
So much to wonder. I want to know, but I don’t want the season to end either!!!
Suzonna, You make a great point about Lucas confessing and apologizing to Henry to be his best with Elizabeth. I share your hope that he tells her; first, for the good of their relationship and second, because Elizabeth has a soft spot for Henry. Elizabeth might be able to help be a peacemaker between Lucas & Henry. I don't know. Although, the timing for that may not be this season, as she has enough on her own plate.
DeleteI hadn't thought about there being a possible tragedy at the end of this season and the bell being used. I've wondered about the finale photo that Bird tweeted, too. He's clearly trying to communicate Elizabeth running to something or so it seems. The way the show has been written this season, anything is possible.
It can be just exhausting trying to watch for clues and "figure out" what the ending will be. Part of why I began commenting so much these weeksnis because there's so much out there about how Nathan and Elizabeth love each other, mirror each other and are in synch with each other. If this is the general consensus, then what is the point of a triangle? It almost looks as though nothing Lucas does will ever be good enough for the viewers to accept his character as one who Elizabeth would truly care for.
ReplyDeleteSo watching the show I just realized something small but meaningful in the Lucas character. We so little about him because his character makes everything about Elizabeth. Whenever they're together, Lucas always brings the conversation back to Elizabeth. We hear about how she's feeling free, Lucas asks her if the picnic was something she needed. He reminds her that whatever she needs he'll always be there. Whatever makes her happy, this is what he wants.
Its no disrespect to the Nathan character. But their conversations always go back to Allie and Nathan. Even the blanket scene... Nathan talking about himself. These past episodes, Nathan talking about himself. He moved to HV to ease His guilt. He's never asked Elizabeth if she's happy. He's never mentioned her feelings in this. For two persons so in synch, how does Nathan NOT understand Elizabeth is hurting so much?
Just thoughts.
HelloDolly, Great thoughts as usual! With all due respect, those that see all the mirroring with Nathan may just be seeing what they want to see. I truly respect their opinions. I think Nathan is an honorable man and is learning to be a great dad, but I don't think he understands women. He even told Rosemary that in the last episode. I don't find him terribly engaging with Elizabeth. Lucas on the other hand, as you aptly point out, wants Elizabeth to be happy; he wants what is best for her always. He cherishes her and has for a very long time. He also wants to be there for her, and he's been patient. Also, Hello Dolly, I agree that "patience should be rewarded."
DeleteI don't quite understand why many of the viewers don't trust Lucas's motive or like him. I know that in season 6, we had the lawless people who came to cause trouble but that was explained. I never doubted he was an honorable gentleman. I do wish more could be objective and at the same time want what is best for Elizabeth. I would be disappointed if she chose Nathan, but like Lucas, I want her to be happy.
HelloDolly,
DeleteI really believe it's because Lucas is a saloon owner/worldly. I really feel that cannot get past it. Why would E want to be with someone who represents sin, when she can have a noble, heroic, Mountie that is completely different from Jack. (in my opinion)
Even after E picked N hands/ said his name. Lucas in pain still goes to make sure she is ok! Lucas only wants was best for E. L has been so patient/ caring/respectable of her feelings. She was short with him, and he says that you can confide it me. l refuses to push her away.
Nathan has said that he loves her three times or so. I just feel that once is enough. She can't even process why it took nathan three years to tell her the truth about Jack replacing him in Fort Clay. Something is lacking with this whole situation. It seems like even throughout other seasons it takes E & N along time to work through there conflict. I feel that Nathan is a bit selfish, and has not acknowledged that E still has her ring on. Come on give her a chance to process and grief the loss of her husband Jack.
I completely agree with you! I feel that Nathan is in love because of guilt. No offense to TN fans.
The other odd thing is that even jack had dates/romance/ we have seen none of this with Nathan, another reason i believe that it may be Lucas.
Time will tell!
Hello Everyone,
ReplyDeleteI found this on twitter, and it really represents what i have been thinking! Maybe others have thought about this to. Keep in mind I am definitely Team Lucas until the end.
Have to say it, no matter what the show says about both men staying, E is 70% of WCTH & her “choice” will become the central male character. I just can’t imagine liking the show without the adventure element of the Mountie as the male lead. I hope they don’t go there. #teamnathan
I believe the only way to keep Lucas in hv is to make him E choice, because Nathan has Allie. I feel that if Lucas is not chosen he would have a very small part.
Time will tell! Team Lucas has waited so patiently for E and only wanted her best interest at heart. Sometimes i feel this is why they brought the pastor to town.
Maybe they should have made Lucas a Banker which is not Worldly at all. He could also leave his profession when E picks him to make it safer for lj.
Hi Auntied, I've always enjoyed that Elizabeth had more of the airtime due to children and her romance. I still think she and her new leading man will have ample time for their scenes, but from what I've heard John Tinker express, he plans to make WCTH a little more about all the people who live in Hope Valley. I'm fine with that, but I'd rather people were rotated in different episodes so the scenes are not cut too short. Tinker also said he tries to give equal air time to leading characters. I'm paraphrasing.
DeleteI know the story originated from the Janette Oke book about a school teacher and a Mountie, but I am ready for the Mountie to become more a part of the town as a whole. I think the Mountie will always have a pivotal role in Hope Valley because he is a necessary character. If he's not Elizabeth's choice, he can be adventurous with the new love that will come into his life. Again, Tinker has said the other suitor will be giving a love interest (or love interests) and will still play a crucial, leading role.
I didn't particularly like that Lucas was a saloon owner in the beginning, but the saloon has become more of a meeting place for the town than a brawling place. Also, Lucas has been a gentleman and an "honorable" man. Is he perfect, no? No, no one is. It's possible they may give Lucas a new profession. I don't know. McNally said in a recent interview that he would like Lucas to lose his money and rebuild his fortune. Again, I'm paraphrasing, but there might be an opening for him to go a new direction in business.
@Shelby,
DeleteI've always seen it your way. Since Nathan is the town Mountie he would always be important in Hope Valley. Nathan as a character has had so much opportunity to shine and connect with the audience due to the number of his storylines. Lucas is more reserved and laid-back. I believe his character is such a support to Elizabeth while Elizabeth supports Nathan.
HelloDolly, That is how I see it. It's a win, win!
DeleteAs we all know there are many question going into the next few episodes - will there be some type of upheaval with E & L - what could it be:
ReplyDelete-Christopher Issue?
-E backing off?
-Will L become disheartened and release E in some way?
-Will there be some type of emergency in town that brings E & L closer - where she
realizes what she could lose?
-Will she reach out to the new Pastor or Minnie for advise on letting go of "Jack" (her past)
and/or finding forgiveness for N and moving on?
For E to get past all the pain that she is going through at the moment - there must be
something monumental that is going to happen with only a few episodes left to
resolve it.
I hope that it will be worth it - as I know that it is not going to be smooth sailing for
these next few episodes and I am gong to feel quite a bit of angst until the end - which I hope will be SO worth it for E/L!!!
Agree! I hope Lucas shares with Elizabeth about Christopher because that seems like the right thing to do and she has a soft spot for Henry. I think Elizabeth will continue to give Lucas mixed feelings, and he will start to pull away. Beyond that, I don't know. I do believe Elizabeth would benefit from talking to Pastor Canfield.
DeleteHey Hope!
ReplyDeleteBetter late than never I guess, lol.
I am so happy Fiona is back! Hoping for a juicy storyline for her soon- of course that may be next season since as of now we only have two eps left!
My favorite scene of this episode was the Lucas/Allie scene. Anyone who watched that cannot think that he wouldn't make a good father. He was so caring and sweet to her and it's obvious he blames Nathan for Allie being upset. I have wanted to see more scenes with L/A since season 6 because they have an interesting dynamic- kindred spirits I think. So I'm glad this one was in here.
The hand game- groan. It almost feels like they keep throwing little stuff in there to keep TN hanging on even though all the romance- and promo pics- have pointed to LucaBeth endgame this season. The only reason she chose N's hands is because he rubbed her hands with his thumbs the way Lucas does. And she did smile and say Lucas. :)
You could see Lucas' frustration in the porch scene. The laugh at the beginning was cute and their sweet banter, but as soon as Nathan was brought up, Lucas became tense. I couldn't tell if he knew about the first ILY or not by his expression -R interrupted at that moment- but he certainly looked hurt when he walked away.
I keep hoping Joseph will convince Nathan to walk away, that perhaps it isn't romantic love he feels at all. We will have to wait and see.
Can't wait to read your next one! And only 2 eps left--eeek!!! :)
Thank you again!!
Hey, Sue! No worries at all for being late! I love to hear from you!
DeleteI loved that Lucas and Allie scene too! You are so right! No one can question his potential as a father now. He did such a great job with Allie! I really love their sweet little dynamic and I hope they can be friends after this whole triangle blows over. It would be really cute!
I really wonder if that "hand-holding game" was just a red herring. (At least my TL brain wants to think it is. Lol!) And she clearly did want it to be Lucas. I'm on the fence about the way Nathan's thumbs seemed to rub her hands. It was a little hard to tell if he was just fidgeting or if he was really rubbing her hands. If he was I say... How dare he! Lol! It just feels VERY inappropriate, especially considering she's dating another man.
And yes... Lucas was far from pleased at Elizabeth's answer during that porch scene. And rightfully so! I honestly don't even think E realized what she'd really done by saying that. But that really did not sit well with L and probably put a lot of doubt in him about where he and Elizabeth stand as well as where her heart really lies. But I do see this as a good thing for TL. We needed some tension, and... well... that combined with the end of this week's episode should give us just that. Lol!
I could totally see Joseph helping Nathan move on, and realize exactly what he truly is feeling. I also wonder if L's gift to N&A will also help N see that L is really a good guy, and that L will take good care of E. But like you said, we'll have to wait and see! :)
Can you believe we only have TWO episodes left?!? Eeeeek!
Thank you so much for reading and commenting! As always I love to hear from you, and enjoy hearing your thoughts! I hope your week is off to a great start! God Bless!
Greetings, All -
ReplyDeleteI have to say that I was very saddened and disappointed in the episode last night.
Wedding aside (which was lovely). I felt that E was so cold last night - especially
toward Rosemary and Lucas. The apology to Rosemary was not heartfelt - at least in my
opinion - you could still see the pain in Rosemary's face after she walked out the door.
To Lucas - There was no discussion about how hurt he was after he left her house
in the prior episode and they were so stiff with each other. I thought he might take
her hand in the church during the wedding, but no. Also, I would have liked to have
known how she went from the prior episode to this one coming to the conclusion that she would forgive Nathan.
I have not problem with the forgiveness, but it would have been nice to see how
she got there (in her mind/processing it). There was no interaction with L basically throughout the entire show - nothing at the reception, etc.
I knew this episode would start the downward turn of E & L, but her switch up was so
swift and was painful to watch. I will not discuss the previews - but it just pains me to
have watched for 2+ seasons - the romance building with E/L and basically nothing
with N (give or take a few interactions) and then she will more than likely swing toward
N. I would have preferred if they had kept an equal balance of romantic meetings between
the two suitors as opposed to building one up just to take him down.
The phases - "You have to fight for love" - I believe tells it all - in the end being E/N -
and several remarks made throughout the show - again, to me, lean toward E/N.
Sorry for going on and on - I just do not like the way they have so heavily told the
story with E/L and puff - it is gone. I have always felt that Lucas' remarks about
"whichever you decide, I just want you to be happy" - foreshadowed what will come
to pass.
I will discuss last night's ep in the next blog, but I wanted to address something you said here. I actually think the 'fight for love' motto we have seen all season will be E having to fight for L in the end. We can see he is stepping back- it was sad to watch last night. He may possibly leave in the last ep- or think of leaving- and E has to bring him back. If L isn't endgame, he has no reason to stick around HV. So, I believe he has to be endgame.
DeleteFinger's crossed anyway.
Anonymous, Like kelley's girl, I will wait to share more after Hope writes her new blog post. I saw lots of wonderful subtle hints that L&E are the end game, too. Lucas has invested so much and his patience has been beyond measure. It will be rewarded. Lucas's only reason for staying was Elizabeth. Elizabeth will fight for him.
DeleteThank you, Kelley's girl - I appreciate all the support and encouraging words.
ReplyDeleteIn an interview with Erin - prior to the start of the season - she mentions that whoever
loses - "takes it like a champ" and will remain in HV. Not sure who would take it best.
I was hoping with the scene during the wedding - when they jumped from couple to
couple - including Allie grabbing N's hand - that this was the way things would be going
forward (as far as who would be together/Couples/families) (especially with E grabbing her rings again, while sitting next to L) - but perhaps I am reading too much into it.
Goodness to gracious, I am so sorry this isn't a thoughtful comment on your review, but I wanted you to know you did a great job and I enjoyed reading it :) Hoping to get a longer comment on your recap for this week. Thanks for providing these wonderful reviews! Happy Monday, Hope.
ReplyDeleteOh, don't worry about it a bit girl! It's no problem at all! But thank you so much for your sweet and thoughtful words! And thank you for all the hard work you put into your own reviews! I'm so looking forward to your next one!
DeleteI hope you're week is off to a wonderful start! God Bless you my friend!
