WCTH S8 Episode Review: Before My Very Eyes
Hello Hearties and welcome back! Sorry this post is a day late... and was posted so late. I've been having a busier day today, or to quote Mr. Bouchard, "You know life. Things get in the way." 😂
I hope you all are doing great and enjoying your week so far! I am back to review this week's episode of WCTH Season 8! Can you believe we're past the half way point of the season? This episode was a good episode. I really did enjoy this one. It was funny, romantic, emotional, and had an air of mystery. Honestly it was one of the best ones of the season. All the main characters actually got a good amount of screen time including... Lucas! Yay! Yes! The man finally not only had some time with Elizabeth but also got a separate plotline of his own. Apart from Elizabeth! Yippee!
Let's get right to it!
Side Notes:
We had a Little Jack sighting! It was brief but he was there!
Just how long exactly is this trip Fiona is taking?
Katie Yost was mentioned! Wow!
In Who's Eyes?
I feel like a broken record, but... Joseph is just an angel. Honestly he is a great addition to Hope Valley. He's gentle and kind, loves his family, but also has an interesting past and some big dreams for the future.
I found it sweet that he offered to hold the prayer vigil for Ned being so new in town and not knowing Ned all to well. (Have they even met?) And he walked ALL THE WAY to town... in the pouring rain no less. Talk about being a saint of a guy.
And yay! Him and Lucas actually got a scene together! It wasn't a whole lot but it was nice nonetheless. I think it would be fun if these two became friends one day. I guess we'll see.
We then learned about Joseph's dream... well sort of. This man has some big plans for the future. I laughed at him and Minnie's cute banter. Minnie walked in the church and found her husband praying and called his name. Joseph then playfully answers, "Yes, Lord?" Lol! I love it! And Minnie had some wonderful wisdom to share with her husband.
Joseph has bigger plans than just pastoring Hope Valley's church. He says that he wants to make something of himself. Minnie then replied gently, "In who's eyes, Joseph?" Amen! Yes, that man has a loving and wise wife. She knows that what truly matters is pleasing God, and doing His Will. Not making ourselves into something great for other people to see. Minnie believes God's calling for her husband is to pastor Hope Valley. (And I agree with her.) Joseph is a breath of fresh air, and has such wonderful wisdom and advice to share. Something almost everyone in this town currently needs. Lol!
I'm very curious to find out just what Joseph's big dreams are though, as well as the full reason he left his previous church.
I also have to mention the scene between Elizabeth, Minnie, and Angela. That little girl is something special alright. All she has to do is hear a song once and she can play it? Talk about a gift from God. It does appear she is a bit discouraged with learning Braille, but if anyone can help her it's Elizabeth.
I do wonder what on earth happened to Mr. Landis. He appeared for a moment and POOF! He was gone and never was mentioned again. But I have a feeling he may be back. I guess we'll see.
The Daring Doctor Duo
Carson and Faith... They got a bunch of screen time and yet... not much happened. At least not in terms of their relationship and Carson's career dilemma. I think the most profound thing that happened was Elizabeth's comment to Carson.
He was so down and worried that he hadn't done enough for Ned. Elizabeth then replies, "I hope you know how much we appreciate you here."
I believe that is exactly what Carson needed to here.
This makes me wonder if Carson really will choose to stay in Hope Valley. Maybe he'll realize that his calling is right there in the town he loves, and that there's no where else he'd rather be.
As for him and Faith, like I said not much happened there. But I did find it sweet when he placed his doctor's coat over her while she slept. Aww! It just shows how much he loves her still. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what will become of these two.
Get Your Own Skirt!
And.... Sigh.... Come on Jesse and Clara. You love each other! Why are you two so stubborn?
Warning. Rant ahead. :D
I would have thought after having a whole episode where they were apart this current episode might have brought some resolution. But... nope. They are still very much at odds.
Now once again I understand. Jesse messed up really bad. Like, really bad. But... it doesn't constitute Clara's behavior. She's so wrapped up in herself and her hurt, that she's shoving Jesse to the curb. She's not showing him the forgiveness or love she should be.
I do give kudos to Jesse for finally stepping foot in the cafe and making a first move of sorts. And yet... he asked for eggs and toast. Lol! Honestly I feel a, "I'm sorry," or a "Can we talk," was in order. Goodness, I would have liked to see him come in and hug her. Actually... that's what I want to see from Clara.
But Jesse and Clara are still newly weds and so they have a lot of lessons to learn. They have to learn how to communicate better, and respect each other. They have to learn how to forgive each other, and show each other a selfless love. And I believe Joseph Canfield is already helping with this.
His advice to Clara was spot on. She needs to ask Jesse to come home. She needs to forgive him. What he did was unacceptable, but she still needs to forgive him. Hopefully next week's episode will bring some resolution for this troubled couple. (And now I'll get off my soapbox. Lol!)
But the funniest thing was their last scene together. Lol! While it was still more conflict between them, that was some funny dialogue. And I applaud Jesse for trying! I mean, the man was about to give his wife some flowers! And then... he saw a bit too much of his wife's ankles out for the world to see. Lol!
Now I do have to agree with Clara that he didn't handle himself the best. I mean, I get it. He was shocked and highly disproved of the look. However maybe he should have waited until Rachel was gone to say something... or better yet. Maybe he should have waited until after he gave the flowers. Lol!
But I didn't really care for Clara's response. She was very bullheaded. But the best line came when she told him to "get his own skirt." And Jesse firmly stated he would. Lol! So good! Kudos Derek Thompson for that one!
The Coulters
Look out Hope Valley! Rosemary Coulter is running the Mercantile! Lol! Oh, my... Elizabeth are you sure that was a good idea? :D But honestly in the end she was a great option as she's just... well just Rosemary. She can do pretty much everything and organizing is her middle name. Lol!
Will this effect her brainstorming for trying to figure out what to do with her life? I'm really not sure. I highly doubt she'll go to work permanently at the mercantile. But who knows? Maybe something will come of this.
As for Lee... Lol! Oh Lee. The little boy just came out in him this time. It was actually pretty neat to see him in Bill's jacket. That red serge looks good on him! I also think that was so sweet of Bill to let him. (You're such a softy! :)
Bill
I just want to add a little snippet in here for Bill. First off.... I think him and Molly's red hot romance took a break for a bit. Lol! And secondly... is Bill going to become a Mountie? I've mentioned this before, but I'm curious if Bill is going to take over for Nathan and become Hope Valley's new Mountie. I really have my doubts as of now. But Bill does seem pretty attached to that serge. And why not? He earned it!
And now we know his horse's name! Hero! Yay! (What? I like to know those things, and Hero is a good name! ;)
Just thought I'd take a quick moment to mention these things. I'm just glad Bill is back in the episode to be honest. He really disappeared last episode. And we need our Bill. :)
The Best Couple in Hope Valley
(Clears throat...) EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkk!!!
There's going to be a wedding! There's going to be a wedding!
Oh my goodness! These two are just so cute, and so perfect together!
I am still a bit confused on what was exactly wrong with Ned. Carson and Faith had a guess, but things were never confirmed afterward. Was it Ned's Gall Bladder? And why did they have to operate a second time? Questions, questions...
Anyhow, Florence and Ned are just the sweetest couple! Poor Florence! Finally! Finally after so long she has found a second love in Ned. And of course what would happen? He would become deathly sick. The poor woman. I can only imagine the trauma she went through. She was by his side, holding his hand, and praying for the man she loves.
And Ned... Eeeek! Even while he has a terrible fever (Which may have been what gave him the courage to do what he did) asked Florence a question. And that question had me squealing and clapping my hands in glee. He asked Florence to marry him! And she said yes! YES!!! Woo hoo!
So Ned under goes not one but TWO surgeries! Ouch! And apparently he lost a lot of blood as everyone in town was donating some for him. (WCTH writers... What did Ned do to deserve this? ;)
And Florence is just put through the wringer this whole episode. She can barely stand to leave, even to get a bit of sleep. And when she's not sleeping she's right back by his side. And that's where we got one of the sweetest scenes...
Florence comes in to sit with Ned who's still unconscious. And then... Oh my goodness! She took his hand and sang him a song! (Places hand to heart!) That was just the sweetest thing! It made me emotional just to think about it.
So then finally Ned opened his eyes, looking so much better. But he had a very important question to ask Florence. Had he asked her, during his raging fever, to...marry him? And had she...said yes? I won't lie. I was concerned he was going to take it back. Lol! Florence nervously tells him yes to both questions... and the smile Ned got on his face was so perfect! Lol! Oh, those two are just so sweet!
And they're going to get married! Yes! Yes, yes, yes, yes!!!
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
(The good being Henry, the bad being Jerry, and the ugly... well you can figure it out. Lol!)
Okay. Christopher listen up. I like you. Really I do. But... no. Just no. That attitude ain't going to fly in this town. And neither is pick-pocketing! Poor Lee. That watch looks like a present from Rosemary with that sweet inscription. (Shakes head in disapproval...) You noughty noughty boy... Lol!
But in all honesty, part of the reason I like Christopher is because of his flaws. He really looks like he was raised in a very wealthy lifestyle, and has become the "rich bad boy" stereotype. (You know, the wealthy trust fund kid type.) But it makes him intriguing to me. Not to mention I see some good in him. Or at least the potential for good. And I believe his father is going to be a great example to him.
Wow. Did I just say that? It's so crazy, but really Henry looks like he's going to be a better role model for his son, than the man who actually raised him. Speaking of who...
So... Who is this Jerry? Literally guys, I have a lot of questions. I really want to know about what happened with Henry and Christopher's mother. Was she Henry's wife and they divorced? Or is Christopher Henry's illegitimate son? That would be one of the biggest scandals this show has ever seen for sure. But I do feel like the first option I listed is mostly likely the right one.
It was so sad to see Henry's reaction when Christopher called Jerry his dad. Christopher even realized how that would effect his "real" dad, and quickly corrected himself by calling his step-father Jerry.
I am so curious to see how this whole story plays out. It was so sweet to see Henry and his son paling around, getting caught in the rain together, and seeing Henry teaching his son how to be an honest and hard working man. I mean... how precious is that?
However... Christopher's behavior is far from precious. Yeesh! That man is a snob. The way he insisted on having a bigger room, and the way he treated Lucas. Just yuck! But Lucas is so onto him. Yes, sir. Mr. Bouchard's people reading skills are back in action. He just knows that Christopher is trouble and was able to put two and two together. And he let the young man have it! Bravo, Lucas!
He straight up told Christopher that pick-pocketing will not be tolerated. Not in this town. Now without evidence Lucas couldn't do much and honestly his accusations were quite bold. Christopher could maybe even report him. Then again... Christopher knows that Lucas is dead right. Hopefully he'll eventually do the right thing before it's too late. I mean... they already found that car he stole. Goodness this guy is trouble. Who on earth's car is that anyway? And how could he just steal it like that? This guy needs some new morals.
I also have to mention Hickam. What on earth was he about to say? Probably something he thought would better the company, but he was cut short by Henry and Christopher. Lauralyn from the blog Heartstrings and Hallmark Things mentioned in her blog post that perhaps Hickam feels Christopher (His boss' son) may take his position at the oil company. I think that is a very valid idea, and makes a lot of sense. Hickam has been there almost from the start, way, way back in S6. Now all of a sudden Henry's son shows up and wants to learn the business. In Hickam's mind, why wouldn't he think Henry would want his own son to have a high position in the company? I guess we'll have to see, but for now... Poor Hickam.
The last thing I want to touch on is Christopher and Rachel. Oooo...girl. I know he has all that "bad-boy charm" and everything, but... Please listen to your head here, and not your heart. This guy is trouble. And Rosemary is onto him! She knows a performance when she sees one, and she can tell something is off with him. Hopefully her and Lee will catch wind of this young romance before something bad happens. Then again... where's the fun in that? Lol!
Allie the Matchmaker
Oh...boy... Allie what have you done?
Now I will be up front and honest here. I am not a fan of the "blended family" idea for Elizabeth and Nathan. Never have been. It's just not my cup of tea. I also was never a fan of the idea of Allie playing matchmaker. Never have been. And so it should come as no surprise that I wasn't a huge fan of what Allie did.
I mean, it was definitely funny. I won't lie about that. But... Yikes. Nathan really needs to set this girl straight. I feel like he should have warned her from the beginning not to get her hopes up. Nothing between him and Elizabeth has ever been set in stone. In fact it's been pretty rocky.
However I do have to put a teeny bit of blame on Elizabeth as she did in fact give Allie hope by accepting Nathan's dinner offer, and then canceling on them... (Three steps from the cafe.) Allie was most definitely very excited about that and the prospect of all four of them possibly becoming a family. And then it all went wrong... for her anyway. Lol!
Yes, Nathan really better straighten things out, and tell her not to match-make anymore. It could get quite... awkward for some people.
I will say I found it quite humorous when she asked did she have to invite Lucas to her adoption party. And Nathan's response was gold. Lol! So good! (But Lucas got you a present! Lol!)
I also want to add in here about the whole adoption storyline. It's truly so sweet to see how much this means to Nathan and how much he truly loves Allie. My audio cut out at the heartfelt moment when Allie told Nathan she wanted him to promise at the ceremony that he'd never leave her. (Come on, Hallmark!) But this just speaks so, so much to how much Allie truly loves her uncle and how her past has scared her. She's lost her mother, and her father left her. Now she's afraid of ever losing her uncle. (Who honestly is really more like her father.) And Nathan lovingly tells her that he would and that he does promise never to leave her. (Aww!)
It's also funny to watch Allie sit and almost tease Nathan about Elizabeth. Lol! Sitting there batting her little eyelashes like she claims Elizabeth did at Nathan. :D I doubt Elizabeth looked at him quite like that, Allie, but don't let me burst your bubble.
Not Yet....
Okay... that was a... conversation. Now, forgetting about all the "team craziness" for a minute, I will say that was a very nice scene between Elizabeth and Nathan. It felt down to earth, relaxed, and natural. Not the usual awkward or tension filled scenes they sometimes get. Okay, actually there was tension here so scratch that.
I do have to admit that when I first saw Nathan walking by I may have literally told him to shoo. Lol! And then when he reached for that blanket I may have told him to stop. (What? It's not like he'd listen to me anyway. ;)
But Nathan was very much a gentleman in this scene, and was generally very kind and sincere. Him and Elizabeth had some light banter going about Elizabeth being headstrong. (It was... cute. I'll give TN that much. Lol!)
Nathan also went on to say that Allie doesn't think that things will feel different after he adopts her. Elizabeth tells him how that speaks volumes about Nathan. Allie knows just how much he loves her and that with the ceremony or not nothing would change that.
Nathan then went on to say that adopting Allie was the single best decision he had ever made in his life. Now I may be Team Lucas but that was a very sweet and big thing for Nathan to say. I'm sure he's made many, many good decisions in his life, especially since he's a Mountie. And yet he says adopting Allie is the single best decision he's ever made. (Again...Aww!) He also states he doesn't know why his sister married Dylan, or how he could abandon Allie after his wife's death. And then we got the big moment. (Takes fortifying breath...) Elizabeth then asks him,
"Haven't you ever lost someone so close to your heart, it tears you apart inside?
Oh, poor, sweet Elizabeth. Every Heartie knows she was thinking of Jack in that moment. And it really just shows us how his death truly crushed her, and how hard it is for her to move on.
Nathan then looked at her and said... "Not yet." (Gulp!)
Hehehe... Can I assume he said that because Elizabeth isn't close to his heart? No? Okay. Just thought I'd ask. Lol! Welp... I do believe that was Nathan's attempt to fight for Elizabeth. I do have to give kudos to him as he actually followed through this time.
Honestly the scene was very sweet, and even had a bit of a "Jack and Elizabeth" feel to it. Ugh! Did I just say that? (Finds towel to wipe tongue on.) Yes, even I can admit when Nathan does something nice. And...
Yes, I still consider Nathan the obvious choice, and say that things are still pointing to him possibly being the man Elizabeth finally chooses. I do have to admit that I am a bit more confused at this point, as Lucas and Elizabeth continue to have a lot of romantic moments and firsts. (Which I shall get to shortly.) I also still say Lucas has a chance, so I am still hopeful.
It's a weird thing. Elizabeth and Lucas get all the romantic moments I love to see. (Romantic dinners, picnics, hand holding, etc.) And yet... I feel that the writers are giving Elizabeth and Nathan more depth in a way. And yes I'm still Team Lucas. :) I'm just commenting on how I feel the writers are portraying the characters, and what I see when I watch them.
Nathan and Elizabeth continue to have this underlying tension when they're together. Like things between them aren't quite yet resolved. Which I don't believe they are at all. Elizabeth continues to make these expressions when Nathan's around and right after he leaves. Something is definitely going through her head. But is it because she feels something for him, or something else? (Mysterious music plays...)
Take a Walk with Me?!?
Did I hear that right? Did Elizabeth really just ask Lucas to.... take a walk with her? Yes, yes I know she didn't actually say the words, but all in all she asked Lucas to walk with her. AND to hold her hand as they did so... (Sighs contently....) Alright, let me back up.
So we first have the scene with them in the saloon. Lucas is being his sweet and thoughtful self as always and brought her some tea. He then spills the wonderful news about his parents. His mother took Elizabeth's advice and convinced her husband to come home! (Yay!) I personally am happy that they seem to be trying to mend things, and Elizabeth is clearly overjoyed at the news. Lucas still seemed to have some reserves about them, but was clearly excited at the prospect of his parents reconciling. (Then again, who wouldn't be?) He then looks to Elizabeth, who he knows is partly responsible for this outcome, and smiles telling her how remarkable she is. He then places his hand over hers affectionately and says, "And I hope you know how happy I am to have you in my life." (Aww!) He's all smiles looking at the woman he adores.
However... Elizabeth was taken back at his public display of affection and with a look around the room, removes her hand from his. She is clearly not ready for this level of either of them publicly showing affection to each other. Lucas seemed a bit confused at first, as well as disappointed. And I understand why. As I said he clearly adores her, and wants to show her love, and for her to do the same to him.
I even wonder if he is worried or even frustrated that Elizabeth is so hesitant. But not for the reason you might think I'm meaning. Elizabeth is still guarding her heart, and I feel she isn't truly giving him her whole heart just yet. She's scared and still trying to navigate through this new experience of having feelings for someone else. I also think she still hasn't sorted through her feelings for Nathan just yet. She cut things off with him very suddenly, and especially with him being a Mountie I believe she still has some things to finally come to terms with. And so Lucas may be able to sense her hesitancy and may even be worried about where her heart lies. Just a thought anyway.
Anyhow, it was fun to see Lucas and Elizabeth just hanging out together. You know... like a real couple. Lol! The way they were just sitting together in the saloon and even standing side by side when Joseph showed up. I also enjoyed Lucas' lightheartedness about them all being gathered in the saloon. And he was such a gentleman when he offered to accompany Joseph in Elizabeth's place so she didn't have to go out in the rain. (And I now know he is capable of starting a fire. Lol!)
We then got a brief scene when Lucas returned from the church, and Elizabeth thanked him for going for her. She then asked if she could borrow his umbrella so she could check on Florence. Lucas offers to escort her, but she kindly turned him down. I'm left to wonder if this also had to do with not being seen as a couple in public or if she just wanted to go alone. Anyhow Lucas lends his umbrella, and then stares after her as she leaves. His expression seemed a mixture of "love-struck glance" and almost a longing. Like he really wanted to go with her, and may even tie into their previous "hand holding" issue. I'm really not sure. (Am I going too deep here? :)
We then come to Lucas and his "secret sorrow." Lol! Now I don't know about you, but I feel that scene was telling. Lucas quotes a novel saying, "Every man has his secret sorrows, the world knows not." Elizabeth questions the quote and Lucas tells her it's from a novel.... about a man who falls in love with a woman... who ultimately rejects him. Hmmm... Are you trying to say something Mr. Bouchard? Lol!
Once again I think this points to Lucas' possible underlying worry about his relationship with Elizabeth. He feels deeply for her, and wants them to... I don't know... Act like a couple? Lol! But Elizabeth is just being cautious right now, and I believe he understands that. I also believe that he doesn't want to rush her either. Yet at the same time... He wants to hold her hand! Lol!
Now, I have to be honest here, even though I feel most people won't agree with me. I wasn't a fan of how Lucas reacted here. I understand that he's disappointed and maybe even worried that Elizabeth doesn't want to show him affection in public. With all he's gone through on this journey of trying to woo Elizabeth he's been through some hard and trying stuff. He saw her hug his rival, and even try and go to dinner with him. He saw her with Nathan and Allie in the street this season, and then on top of everything his whole world came crashing down when he learned his parents separated.
I just felt... he was being a bit... pushy. And believe me I know he could have been so much worse than he was. He put a humorous spin on the situation, and even assured her that he doesn't want to rush her. I don't know. I guess I feel that his comment put pressure on Elizabeth, almost guilt-tripping her. It's just that he's always said he would be patient. That he would wait as long as it took. This just seemed to be him doing the opposite. But this is just me personally.
I also have to mention his joke he told to Lee and Bill. Guys! He actually told a joke! I love that! The whole scene was very humorous from Lucas laughing at the joke, to Bill and Lee's confused expressions, to Lucas feeling very awkward that his audience didn't seem quite as amused as he was. (I also find it funny to think Gustave tells Lucas jokes. I didn't know he was the joking kind of guy. Lol!)
Moving on, we then got that last scene...
When Lucas and Elizabeth held hands as he walked her home!!! You guys... Yay! That was so sweet. I mean, again this felt like something I could only dream of happening. It was romantic, sweet, and gave me the feels. I mean... they held hands for goodness sake! So cute! And let me back up a minute to Elizabeth's whole statement to Lucas.
That was such a sweet and romantic thing for her to say. She told him that she doesn't want him to have secret sorrows. She wants him to share all his joys and sorrows with her... privately AND publicly. Aww! And then she held her hand out to him.... and he took it! And they walked off together hand in hand! (Toward the church as a friend of mine pointed out to me.) The whole moment was so sweet and romantic. And that was such a wonderful and meaningful statement from Elizabeth. It leaves me wondering just where this triangle is going.
Side Note: I forgot to mention Lucas' present he got for Nathan and Allie. Always such a thoughtful man. (And what on earth was in the box?!? :D )
Now I'm going to avoid digging myself too deep this time. However, I do have to be honest here. And the truth is this. I am not 100% happy with how Lucas and Elizabeth's relationship is being played out. I love the romantic settings. Like honestly, wow. SO romantic. And I have loved seeing them have those cute couple firsts... and almost firsts. Lol! I just feel like something is lacking here. I'm still just lacking the depth I really want to see and feel from them. (This is just my personal opinion, and you're totally free to disagree. :) So, I have two ideas why.
The first reason is the saddest, and so I'll get it out of the way. Maybe the writers are keeping things lighter and not going as deep with Lucas and Elizabeth because... (Takes fortifying breath) Elizabeth is ultimately going to pick Nathan. It's a possibility, and I have to be open and honest here.
The second reason is much happier, but still frustrates me to an extent. The truth is... the writers are trying to keep this triangle going. They are keeping us in suspense and questioning everything. And so for Elizabeth and Lucas to spend so much time together going on dates and whatnot....AND be connecting so deeply would honestly be a dead giveaway as to who she's going to pick. I mean, let's be serious. Why on earth would the writers do that right away (Make Elizabeth and Lucas look so perfect, so in love, and connect so deeply and meaningfully) if they wanted us to keep guessing? I mean that would be SO obvious and should their plan be to have Elizabeth pick Nathan, they would have no valid reason to split her and Lucas up. It wouldn't make sense.
Or maybe Elizabeth is just still not giving Lucas all her heart just yet. I don't know.
But this is all just my two cents. And ramblings. Lol! It's funny as writing these blogs allows me to process and look deeper at scenes. Even come to new conclusions as I'm typing. And so I like to throw it all out there. I could be totally and dead wrong. But it's interesting to consider all options.
I suppose the biggest question is this.... Can Elizabeth really switch to Nathan in the end after having all these romantic and meaningful moments with Lucas? My answer is yes, but it can't be done now as easily as it could have before. It would have to be Lucas who breaks things off, or people would look down upon Elizabeth's character. But I really, really just... don't know. Things would be so much more awkward if her and Lucas broke up and she went with Nathan, verses her staying with Lucas and cutting things with Nathan permanently. I can see her still being friends with Nathan and Allie even if she goes with Lucas. Not so much the other way around. (But then again, I am Team Lucas.) All in all.... I just don't know anymore. Lol! I guess we'll find out in a few weeks. (That sounds crazy, doesn't it? Lol!)
But just for the record, I am actually more hopeful now than I was after watching the episode. I still believe Lucas has a shot! Yay!
And there we have it Hearties! In the end this was a good episode! We got so much more time with the main characters, and everything felt a little smoother. It made me laugh, pulled at my heartstrings, and made me swoon.
Thank you all so much for reading! Feel free to tell me your thoughts below! (But please don't tell me anything concerning promos, previews, or interviews. Thank you! :) Have a wonderful day! God Bless!

ReplyDeleteHope, thank you for all the hard work and great effort you put into writing your posts each week. I was glad I looked online and saw your post would be late because I was about to get concerned about you, but I do know we all have demands in our lives.
ReplyDeleteThe sweetest scenes in episode 7 for me were with Florence and Ned. I am rather new to WCTH considering it's longevity. I only began watching in earnest in season 5. It's possible that I wasn't paying close attention to them in the past. I truly don't know if they have a back story. No matter, Florence gave a stellar performance with her sweetness and loving care and concern for Ned. I cried when she was singing to him and in other places as well. Also, their timing was perfect after Ned finally woke up and was on the road to recovery. Every little word that Florence said in answer to Ned was perfect. Then, we see Ned let her know he really meant to ask her to marry him, and it was so wonderful. They make a sweet, sweet couple.
I am almost teetered out trying to figure out the love triangle. I believe they are taking us a little too far with Lucas & Elizabeth if Nathan is going to end up being chosen. Surely, the writers know this. It's not like this is a movie, and someone else gets the girl at the end. I think the hand holding was sweet, but the words Elizabeth said were even better. Those weren't easy words for her to say, but I believe she meant them. Hope, Elizabeth did say that she wants to take it slow, and I think that is what she is doing. I also believe that Lucas wants to be patient but sometimes forgets he has to be that way. I did notice how Lucas looked at Elizabeth when she left to go to check on Florence at the infirmary. He seemed to not be able to take his eyes off of her.
I suppose my bigger concern is that Team Nathan is very disappointed, some are even quite mad, and really mad at Elizabeth. I believe it's possible that we get a little romance for L&E; (Hope, I don't see the depth, either) -- and Nathan will still be the end game. I know of a few promos that are coming up that give me a little pause. I feel good about the beginning of episode 8, but the ending has me slightly concerned. I think the reveal of Nathan's secret may change the forward momentum for L&E, and it will force Elizabeth to look at her feelings and search her heart a little more. However, I keep asking myself would the writers let most of season 8 go by without giving Team Nathan something? I guess time will tell, but I want to go on the record that even if Nathan is the end game, and even if I am disappointed, I want Elizabeth and the one chosen to be happy and truly in love. Although, I want to end by saying that of all the weeks since season 8 began, I see more hopeful signs for L&E.

ReplyDeleteHi Hope! I eagerly awaited your blog today. It didn't disappoint!
ReplyDeleteHeres something fun to think about: I wont share anything from interviews.... apologies!
But, we were urged to look for clues. There are a TON in this wedding themed episode. First of all the title is Before My very Eyes. Minnie Canfield asks her husband when discussing his wanting to be great, In WHOSE eyes? We have the answer of course, God. So the title of this wedding themed episode could be called Before the sight of God. Lots of marriages happened here.
* Joseph is asked if hes the town pastor.....we know he will be.
- Joseph helps fix Clara and Jesse's marriage by giving advice making them rethink the vows they've already made in the sight of God.
- Flo and Ned become engaged to be married, before the sight of God.
- Elizabeth and Nathan appear at the altar with Allie....which doesn't bother me because her behavior is understandable if she wants Elizabeth to be apart of her family and would continue only if Lucas and Elizabeth are going to be together after all, who would ever solve a long temper tantrum by finally giving a child what they wanted?
- The other reason I dont mind is because early in the episode we get a shot of Lucas and Elizabeth standing side by side in front of Joseph Canfield. The future Pastor. Everyone else is out of focus. Joseph also says God can hear in a saloon in the conversation.... This is important. Elizabeth and Lucas would never get married in the church were she and Jack were married...it would be in the saloon.
- Also note the hand holding scene. Elizabeth didn't just ask Lucas to walk her home....she recites vows to him. She tells him she will hear his joys and his sorrows privately and publicly. They walk off in the sunset with the symbolic church on the right....ofcourse In the sight of God. ( Also note Nathan riding away from in between the two before the " walk me home ceremony" takes place...he doesn't know it yet, but he's getting out of the way)
Elizabeth's facial expressions are some of the most incandescent we've seen from her in a really, really long time. Her conversation with Nathan ends abruptly with pursed lips. Elizabeth's face then widens into a gorgeous smile and it lingers as Lucas finally approaches.
Another mention, not necessarily wedding themed but cute. Elizabeth and Nathan are standing near the saloon and we finally get a shot of them under the sign...with a heart.
The road is about to get rough. Hang in there! I think these clues aren't for nothing.
Ugh i didn't post my name. HelloDolly
ReplyDeleteOne more clue....Before the "walk me home ceremony" to Lucas. Elizabeth will have "Borrowed" Lucas's umbrella.....She uses these exact words....
ReplyDeleteThe conversation scene with Nathan? Dont worry. He gave her a blanket....it was "Blue".
One more goodie? Sorry HOPE!!!
ReplyDeleteErin Krakow said in an interview (i HAVE TO) She says this season is about finding the person who "lights a fire in her heart"..... Elizabeth's heart is in teaching......Lucas lights the fire in the school this episode.
HelloDolly, I love all your clues. I think you found more for TL than TN. :) I saw a clue that Chris McNally put up in Instagram stories the other day. It only stays up 24 hours; I believe. He put up a Vancouver artist photograph of a small shop with the curtains 3/4 closed, but with someone watching. I felt it was only significant because he has and will continue to keep watching Elizabeth's interactions with Nathan.
DeleteThanks, Hope! It was my favorite episode of the season as well. I felt like the handholding was checkmate as in adios TN, but you just had to point out that if Lucas ends the relationship, then Elizabeth's reputation can remain intact even though Lucas doing anything but loving her forever seems unlikely. Oh, we just can't get a end to the triangle! I think Rachel will need to be rescued because it will give L&R something to do, and she is aware that Christopher is shady and doesn't seem bothered by it. Although Jesse needed to be reformed and redeemed so it could happen to Christopher too. If this was Pine Valley and not Hope Valley, I would expect Rachel to somehow interfere with Jesse and Clara's reconciliation because Rachel had already decided Jesse was hot stuff the first time she laid eyes on him. Thankfully, we shouldn't have to worry about that especially with Rachel's keen interest in Christopher. She may be OK with taking Clara's flowers but not her husband. Although that kind of break in the moral fabric of Hope Valley could be just the nudge Joseph needs to make being a pastor his #1 priority again. Oh the sermons he could preach! Maybe I will drop Pastor Joseph a line and ask him to pray for Elizabeth to pick Lucas. Never underestimate the power of intercessory prayer.
ReplyDeleteHi Hope. Thank you very much for this wonderful post. I have a few questions but let me ask one question first.
ReplyDeleteYou've mentioned a few times that the interaction between E & L are not deep enough. Can you give examples of how their interactions can be deeperm
Thank you!
*deeper?
DeleteHey E&L fan! Thank you so much for reading! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
DeleteI guess I just feel that this season sometimes things feel surface level between L&E. From their conversations at times, as well as the way E acts around L. Everything has been very perfect and light between them so far. I guess I'd like to see a bit more tension, at least from E to show how deep her feelings go and that she's scared to love him. I'd also like to see them have more of a "breathlessness" around each other. You know a more excited, "butterflies in their stomachs" vibe. I'd like to see them have a deeper connection as well, truly opening themselves up to each other. I'd also like to see them solving problems together in a plotline that doesn't just have to do with them. Like L helps E with one of her students, or plays with Little Jack.
This all would just add more depth to their relationship. I love the romantic dates, and think they are adorable together! I just want to see a deeper connection between them and see them a little more involved in each others lives outside of their romantic outings. I hope this helps! God Bless!
Thank you very much hope for your kind & detailed reply. 😃👍💝
DeleteNow that you've given me your thoughts, I agree with you on all your points. Let me share with you my understanding of how much deeper we hope to get from E&L so as to understand your points fully. I hope for your kind feedback. 👍😄
Yes, we need E to SHOW MORE of how she feels about L. The way E has been behaving so far, it's more of her REACTING to what L has done for her or said to her. We need her to show the tension, as you've said, when one feels if one is afraid of what the future holds. So far, I think E can see how L deeply & absolutely adores her and so that doesn't allow her to feel like she can easily lose L. She's comfortable knowing that L wants her to be happy & she can see L has been doing & will continue to do everything to make her happy. But we have not seen how E really feels about L that is on the same level as how L feels about E. We can see E is attracted to L but is she only attracted to L because she FEELS flattered by L's attentions or do her feelings run deeper? The kind of feelings that we know L feels for E. The kind of feelings that E once had for J? The kind of feelings that make E feel happy when L is happy, make E sad when L is sad, make E afraid of losing L if one day L decides to abandon her for whatever reason, the kind of feelings that make E yearn to be closer (literally & figuratively) to L than they are now, make E miss, long for & treasure L than what she has shown so far? That would give us the breathlessness, the vibes, the tension, the depth of E's feelings for L. So far, we have only seen the depth of L's feelings for E but not enough from E for L.
Is that correct Hope? 😄
And yes, we need their story arcs to be more than just about their interactions. They need to be more involved in the community and in LJ's life. And I think we are seeing some of that in ep 7. L helping Joseph as his way of helping E; L making jokes with Bill & Lee, which is important because both men are close to E; L getting Gustave to prepare sandwiches, tea & coffee for the those attending the vigil for Ned while E is directly helping Flo; L getting his mojo back when he can read that Christopher is up to no good & clearly telling C he's watching C & will take action if he catches C red-handed; L giving a gift to N&A to congratulate them becoming father & daughter even though he's not invited to the adoption ceremony because L knows E cares about both N&A. We need more of that from them, which I'm hoping we will get in the upcoming episodes.
And we need L to interact directly with LJ, maybe play with LJ, include LJ in the outings L has with E, like a ride in his car, or picnics or even dinners. I need L to show that he understands the importance of including LJ in what he & E do together more because that can show he understands that if he & E gets together, LJ is an important part of that equation. And so we need L, LJ & E moments together. I think because of Covid-19 we can't have much of it but we don't need a lot. At least 1 picnic or dinner with the 3 of them is better than what we have been given so far, which is nothing. 🙁
I guess I can summarise it as we want to see E feel that she's more invested in the relationship than what she is showing because we can see how invested L has been and so we need E to show that too. But her telling L to share his joys and sorrows, in private and public, is perhaps E taking baby steps towards showing more of how invested she is in the relationship. I hope so.
Well, that's my take on the issue. What do you think, Hope? Thank you in advance for your kind feedback. I really appreciate your kind attention & responses despite your busy schedule. Your effort is truly admirable. 💖💖💞💞💝💝👍😄
Hey, L&E fan! I'm sorry I have taken so long to get back to you. I do such a terrible job sometimes commenting back to people. I really agree with you. E has to show more of how she feels for L, and so I was so happy to see her do that this past episode. I won't say much now, and save my thoughts for my review. But I agree. Seeing more of how E feels would really add more depth to their relationship.
DeleteI also agree with you that they both need to have storylines outside of their relationship. (Yet another thing we saw this past episode.) I'd really like to see L help E with a student or for them to take LJ on an outing. I know interaction with the kids has been limited due to Covid, but I just think it would be really cute to see.
However I would like to see L mention LJ just a bit more than he currently is. Just to show he knows that LJ is apart of the equation if he goes with E. It wouldn't have to be a whole lot. Just a mention or comment here and there. Like you said. Anything would be better than nothing.
You put it very well. We just need to see that E is more invested than she is currently showing. But once again you are right. Her comment to L about him sharing his joys and sorrows with her was a very deep and meaningful statement. A very good step in the right direction. The truth is E is still very cautious and scared to get too close to L. I guess we can take that as a good thing, right? :)
Thank you so much for your kind words! You are so sweet! And again sorry I took so long to respond. I really need to stay on top of things. :) God Bless!
Hope, I love your analysis, I already said on twitter. I like that you don't see spoilers, I love it actually, it makes you more neutral and with a cleaner analysis. I cannot deny that although I am trying to prepare for an ending N / E all these scenes and the flourishing of a romance between L / E makes everything more difficult. It seems that we are getting more and more involved with this couple and we want to see everything about them. How you, I'm not attracted to the mixed family at all, I think it's cute, but not a story that makes me excited. I wanted LJ as the only son of the man that Elizabeth will chose, I wanted to see the guy becoming a father, with no experience at all, but I can't choose, just wait ... I think Lucas is totally in love with E, he would do everything for her, until he lets her go if he realizes that she won't be happy with him. But it will be a struggle, if it happens. I believe that after the hug Lucas witnessed and seeing E / N leaving together as a family at the beginning of the season, Lucas had almost put an end to his hopes, but Elizabeth still didn’t make up her mind and stay away from N, that didn’t make sense for him. He said he was unable to read her, that is, to understand her. Suddenly, she turns to him and opens up to a relationship, but not entirely because she imposed “I need to go slowly”, it is a question for him, she comes to me after so long, but she is not ready yet. He can't understand where she is, if it is still her trauma of losing her first husband, if it is feelings for N. I think all of this is causing a confusion of feelings and thoughts in L. I feel that at times he has acted with a little bit of insecurity. He wants to show all the love that is in his chest for her, but he still needs to restrain himself. Girl has some time this guy is looking forward to a chance. Elizabeth is afraid to give herself completely because of the loss of Jack, Lucas is afraid to throw himself completely and be rejected at some point, however, he sometimes cannot hold everything inside him. I wonder if at any point he will spill everything that has been stuck for so long. I agree with you, I wanted the scenes between him to be longer, more conversations, interaction with LJ, but the answer lies in one of yours alternatives, I hope it is to not deliver the game. I loved seeing Lucas involved with other stories too. Besides L / E the best part for me was Florence and Ned, I was thrilled with her singing for him. How sweet! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteSorry, there are some errors in the writing.
DeleteI must live under a rock because I am not seeing any type of attraction from Elizabeth to Nathan. I believe that Elizabeth deeply cares for Allie and she wants Nathan to be ok. She just wants peace in Hope Valley and not to feel awkward every time she sees a member of her community. I think the story lines between Elizabeth and Lucas are going purposely slow and will become deeper in Season 9. Mr. Yost and Florence are so adorable and I love love Joseph and Minnie. This was the best episode of the season! Thank you Hope for the write up. As always, you have such a way with words!
ReplyDeleteHello Hope! Thank you once again for the time that you put into your posts every week- I so appreciate you!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to focus on the triangle- as usual- after I mention how darn cute Ned and Flo are! They just may be my favorite couple in HV right now.
I have been like you this season, watching all the sweet scenes with L/E and the tension between N/E and wondering. I just rewatched this ep this morning hoping to glean something new from it. I still have concerns, but they have lessened. Truthfully, I didn't see any attraction between E/N in the blanket scene. In ep 2 he blurted out that he loves her, and she stumbled over her words back to him, implying that she cares about him too. But, we don't know what she was about to say before he interrupted her. That is key. I think Nathan's secret is the key to his feelings towards her. I believe it is more guilt than love- perhaps- and once he spills it, maybe he will realize it. Granted, this is coming from a TL lens.
I think perhaps your second thought is what they are doing. Keeping both teams engaged until the big reveal. Of course, I want to think that is what is taking place. I keep remembering Lucas telling E he just wants her to be happy. If we watch her scenes with both men over the season so far, it's obvious who she looks happy around. (Looks can be deceiving, I know)
The overall picture I am seeing right now makes me believe the writers wouldn't go all out with E/L then switch to N at the end. Could I be wrong? Absolutely. But the more episodes that pass with L/E looking very couple-ish, the more I believe they are endgame. A few scenes coming up this week I will watch closely to see if I change my mind. E's words to L in the street I thought were quite telling, and did resemble wedding vows, then they walked towards the church. Foreshadowing? Possibly.
I didn't love the Lucas scene when he brought up the quote either, but I didn't really see it as pushy. He ended it with agreeing once again to be patient. The scenes with Christopher made it look to me like L is becoming more of a leading man in the show. Very excited about this week's ep to see what happens.
:)
Hi Kelly's Girl. I know some like to watch and wait. I have a really hard time with that. If you rewatch the episode, you'll notice some really really amazing clues. They wanted us to have fun watching. If you get the clues, and there are so many in this episode, you'll walk away with confidence that Lucas and Elizabeth are definitely going to be together. The next episodes are going to be really hard to watch. We needed this episode to prepare.
DeleteEveryone: The writers wanted everyone to feel good and comforted, so they let on who would be it in the ending.... without telling us. But the clues are real, and they are certain. I am 100 percent sure Lucas and Elizabeth are going to end up together.
Unknown, I am so Happy to see that someone has a 100% proof that E&L are end game. I enjoyed this episode had a little bit of hope rise up.
DeleteAnd I so appreciate you, Sue! Thank you for reading and taking time out of your busy day to share your thoughts with me! I love to hear from you and what you thought of each episode!
DeleteLol! I think FloYo is everyone's favorite couple right now. And for good reason! :)
I really think Nathan's secret is going to have a huge effect on the triangle. It may even bring about the ultimate resolution. The big question is will it dissolve Nathan's feelings and make E realize she truly doesn't have feelings for him.... or do the opposite? I'm really not sure at this point, and could see things going either way.
I have more hope now than I did at the beginning of the week. (Talking to you helped! :) I agree L&E have been very "couple-ish" for the past few episodes. This combined with the past 2 seasons just makes me wonder. Will it all have been for nothing? Or is Lucas actually endgame? I really don't know, as I've been saying for the past months.... (Years really...Lol!)
I'm really excited to find out what happens next! Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts with me! I hope your weekend has been wonderful so far! God Bless!
Hi HOPE,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this blog and this safe place to share thoughts regarding the show. Im team Lucas and thought Nathan would be Elizabeth's pick. I know you dont like previews or spoilers, but, they did say to look for clues..... episode 7 had a lot. If you catch them, you might actually see the moments in the episode differently. Im a nerd and i love to pick things a part.....Im feeling pretty certain about this. If everyone rewatches, maybe you Lucas fans can see what Im missing?
HelloDolly - My confusion is? If there are not of TL fans why did they not end this in episode 1. Who cares about a few fans that will get lost in the rubble. I just can't wrap my mind around the meaning of this. I realize that they are dragging it out until episode 12 so that they get a season 9, but really at the expense of hurting a team. Somebody help me out!
DeleteHelloDolly and Auntied? Have either of you seen the new clip that Hallmark put up? I know we cannot discuss it in here, but I would really like to know your thoughts.
DeleteShelby- I have seen it and would be happy to discuss it tomorrow after Hope has seen the episode. :)
DeleteThank you! :) I guess that means Wednesday. Oh, how I wish I had friends that watched WCTH.
Delete"Who"... I've tried to get people to watch, but no one will.
DeleteShelby- there is a Lucas group on FB if you are on there.
DeleteThank you, kelley's girl! No, I'm not on there. I see what some people are seeing on twitter. It doesn't help. If you insert a different train of thought, they can't handle it.
DeleteI meant saying on twitter. I need to talk to people who can have some objectivity, but it's hard to find on Twitter. I guess that FB group has to be joined, right?
DeleteShelby- yes you have to have a FB account to join the group :)
DeleteHi Shelby, i have seen these on you tube, but just re-watched. I agree with Kelly we should wait until most watch tonight. Have you seen the wcth from parade.com?
Deletekelly's girl, I didn't make myself very clear. It is a closed or private FB group? I think Hallmark goofed. The video clip I saw is still linked to on Twitter and Hallmark has taken down the clip. I'm kind of glad for the those who had not seen it, but it raised a lot of questions for me.
DeleteHi Auntied, i definitely want to honor Hope's wishes always. Yes, I saw the photos from parade.com
Shelby- yes, it's a private group. You can still watch that video on IG for now even though Hallmark removed it.
DeleteSorry Hope ;)
kelley's girl, Thank you for all the information.
DeleteHi Hope - You blow my mind with your insight. I have really gleaned alot, so Thank You! Can you answer these pondering questions which goes back to other episodes for me. When Lucas returned from his trip and knocked on E door. She said Welcome Home! ( What does that truly mean?) When E came back from her not a date with Lucas. When Nathan saw E in town he said Welcome back! (I have been pondering on what is the difference).
ReplyDeleteThe other thought is when Nathan saw E sitting outside the infirmary. E explained why she was sitting there for Florence, and Nathan said "You Are A Good Friend". (Should i just take that as is or is there a deeper meaning!
Appreciate the help!
Greetings -
ReplyDeleteI was very much taken aback the first half of the show when E rejected L twice -
saloon (hand holding) and then the Umbrella scene - I thought - here we go with E pulling
back. I did not mind what L said about his sorrows, etc. I think that that was his way of
saying that he is a bit scared of what might be going on - possible rejection. He very much
wears his emotions on his sleeve. When an actor makes you feel that - you know he is doing
a great job.
I, too, noticed that when E & L walked off to her home - the church was right in front of
them. I did not feel that E felt that she "should" say something - I felt it was from
her heart and you could really feel his heart blossom in that moment.
In an interview with Kevin/Nathan - he stated twice that there is something up with
L and Christopher - I so hope that it is not something bad and put L in a bad light.
I think feel that E's end game will be N - but it still irks me that that we have seen
the relationship with E & L grow over the last few seasons and now it will just shift
the other way as though nothing happened in the past. Everyone keeps talking about
a lack of depth between E & L - I do not feel that way - at times - to me - they seem to
communicate more with glances/eyes, etc.
Sorry - but I am not a fan of Allie and the way that she pushes N - as he is supposed to be the adult in the room. I also keep going back to her interview where she basically stated that
we will all understand how it comes together in the end - saying it with a huge smile - which to be is a tell-all.
It hurts to be so invested in a coupe and then poof - no more - especially for this show
where relationships really matter.

DeleteIn an interview with Kevin/Nathan - he stated twice that there is something up with
L and Christopher - I so hope that it is not something bad and put L in a bad light.
Ok! I hear that Kevin said this. My concern is? Is he just trying to entice the Nathan fans to keep watching for ratings or is this really true. At first i thought Lucas asked Christopher to come because his dad was not feeling well. A surprise to Gowen, but he would never know.
Elizabeth always wanted a big family with alot children. I just personally feel that With Allie & Nathan, E would be in burn out mode. Nathan needs alot of support and Allie wants a mom. Plus with the school year, i really believe Allie will want special privileges. Don't forget LJ. I hope it works out! It should be quite the drama.
If Lucas wins it would be a surprise to team L and a disappoint for TN.
First, I am a Team Lucas fan, but I have lost hope for Lucas. I believe the secret will be Nathan knew Jack and was there when he died. Jack will have told him to take care of Elizabeth for him. I also believe the writers are giving us some hope to throw us off.
ReplyDeleteUnknown, It's a win/lose situation. I keep telling myself it could be Lucas, but deep down i feel that it's Nathan. Feeling shattered, but Hallmark wants the show to last. Why did they let it go so far. They should have ended it early. I probably will not be able to watch after this season. I am still team Lucas, but feeling that we never had a chance.
DeleteHi Hope -
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that Lucas will have to be the one to end the relationship to save E character. I have read that many - including myself feel it's gone to far, and he should have been friended long before now. I can see Nathan being a friend of E, but i have a hard time seeing L as E friends after all of the dates, Library and near miss kiss. I would think it would be awkward for him to stay in hv. i do not see L & Fiona as a couple, but rather with Nathan.
I have read the thoughts of TN and many are discouraged because they want it to be Nathan the Mountie and he is a good father to allie. They feel that Lucas is a saloon owner and he is shady, a snake, deceptive, and gambler. I immediately say how come i feel different. Lucas is being judged because he does not have kids and because he owns a saloon. I remind them he was cleared from helping out a widow from a loan shark.
So if hallmark does go the safe route and keeps Nathan as lead they will have to work hard to keep all of the team Lucas interested in it.
Ok! Say that Nathan wins? Does he really have what it takes to play a leading role. No disrespect to him at all. It really feels crowded with all four of them and all of the other characters. I see Lucas having a small part, but not enough to keep TL fans engaged for a season 9.
Bill charged $0 for the adoption, but we have not seen Nathan return the money to Lucas. Maybe it's still under the floor in the abandoned house.
E asked N if He ever lost someone that tares him apart- n said not yet. Is this an apple an an orange? She is talking about the death of her husband- i thought. (this had me puzzled) I like how you described it.
Maybe Carson leaves the show and Faith becomes the permit doctor of hv. I would like him to go get training in Baltimore and then come back to hv. Time will tell.
I really enjoy Joseph- he will be the pastor of hv - they truly need his wisdom. I would love to know what his dreams are. i thought he bought the gas station. he can get someone to be an attendant.
Ok! so Rachel likes bad boys - come on Rachel- you know that Christopher stole your uncle's pocket watch but you do not alert him to the truth. No wonder the mother sent her to hv.
Yeah! Ned is on the mend. Can't wait to see Florence & him get married.
Looks like Clara is not ready to forgive Jesse yet, in due time i am sure she will let back home. Lucas is probably letting him stay for free.
I am just getting too nervous - I feel as though E & L are front and center (which is
ReplyDeletegreat for Team Lucas fans) - but listening to interviews from the start of season from
all Brian Bird and the actors - that there are so many twists and turns that we will
not know until the last show. E & N have not really been front and center with the exception of the "ILY" episode and perhaps the current adoption episode. They say that there is some
connect with Christopher for Lucas - that makes me nervous as well, but I am trying to
stay strong!! Thank you, everyone - love all the comments.
Anonymous - I was thinking that Lucas had asked Christopher to come because his fathers health was not good. Just a thought! i know that Gowen received a second letter so maybe that was his son saying he was coming or maybe it was bad news from a doctor about his health. I though about what Kevin said and it could be a decoy for the other team. I was so disappointed two weeks ago, and this week i felt a little hope. Don't Give up! Maybe take sometime to step away from the blogs/spoilers. Last week i read the this blog, but did not participate last week. You got this! One day at a time! One step at a time! Remember to breath :)
ReplyDeleteso i have thought about the quote Lucas made to Elizabeth, i don't believe that it was entirely about him. This same quote could have applied to Henry, re: his son and whatever that back story maybe, Jesse, on the loss of his and Clara $$$, Nathan because of his ILY and Elizabeth friendzoning him, Carson and his fellowship invite or Faith, Joseph and his being a preacher vs what other plans he has, Jack and the mountie uniform and having to give it up. Applies to so many if you really think about it. I did like that Lucas was involved more in the story with other HV folks, and with the Ned vigil. There were some major couple vibes between Lucas and Elizabeth during this time during the saloon shots, the looks between them, their tandem talk with Joseph etc. I definately want to know more of the background between Henry and his son and Christophers mother. Not a fan of the parent trap stuff Allie is pushing. Thank you
ReplyDeleteGreat insight about Lucas's quote. :) I so appreciated that Lucas took an interest in Joseph Canfield. I want him to have more HV friends, and he also tried to share a joke with Lee and Bill. Any E & L couple vibes work for me.
DeleteThis really was a good episode! It had so much heart and so many feels. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteJoseph Canfield: one of the best additions to Hope Valley ever! I didn’t think it would be possible to love a character so completely so quickly, but he is amazing. I love the depth he brings to the show, as does his family. This is a wonderful story in the making, and I really, really hope he’s Hope Valley’s new pastor.
I now have more hope that Carson will stay in town. He’s been one of my favorites since he showed up, so I hope he’s staying put. And I need him and Faith to work out their issues and get engaged. I don’t suppose that is too much to ask? :)
Lee and the serge...I was so glad Bill let him try it on after all, and dang! Lee looked good! What is it about that serge going on someone that makes him look great?? I wasn’t sure how it would look on Bill, but it totally worked. I’ve always loved it on Nathan. And now Lee. Wow.
I think all Hearties should give up on Team Nathan and Team Lucas for the time being, and we should focus on the fact that we’re ALL Team FloYo!!! Who’s with me?? (*crickets*) But seriously, they are the cutest and I just love them together. That was my kind of proposal! Simple, heartfelt, and beautiful. Those two had me in tears. So touching.
Lol, glad you like Christopher. I’m ready to run him out of town myself! That boy had me liking him in the last episode and wanting to smack him in this one. It’ll be interesting to see what we think of him in the next one. I so wanted Lucas to deck him one...I know, I know...I need to take a chill pill, lol. And hey! Thanks for the shoutout! :)
You already know a lot of my thoughts on Nathan, Allie, Elizabeth, and Lucas in this episode, so I’ll refrain from repeating myself. But it’s funny - you mentioned that you could see her remaining friends with Nathan if she was with Lucas but not with Lucas if she was with Nathan. I totally see it the opposite. I think she could be friends with Lucas, but I don’t think she and Nathan could remain friends. But I am Team Nathan, so I’m biased! I do find it interesting that Lucas is witnessing a lot of scenes between Elizabeth and Nathan. It’s like he’s observing their interactions for a reason...what that reason might be I think I’ve already said (right?), so I’ll leave it at that. But I find it so interesting that our team lens impact how we see things on this show! It makes sense, but it’s so fascinating to me. I’m pretty sure there could be a case study on Hearties to help psychologists out on their theories of how we see the world!
Anyhoo, thank you for the wonderful recap and sharing your thoughts with us! Amazing, as always. Have a wonderful Saturday!

DeleteLauralyn, It's always good to see you. I know you were addressing your comments to Hope, but I wanted to take the time to let you know I read your well-thought-out article on your blog today. Your comparing Sleeping Beauty's hero, Phillip, and his struggles to Nathan, also a hero, is a great comparison and believable. It's not hard to see how you arrived at your conclusion, either. I admire Nathan a lot and think he is an honorable man. However, like many Nathan fans and Lucas fans, we don't want to let go of our hope for our guy being with Elizabeth.
DeleteI agree with you that Lucas is watching all the exchanges with Elizabeth, Nathan, and Allie. I think he may realize where Elizabeth's feelings lie before she does. I believe he is a person who longs for a great love doe his heart and soul, but I think he learned about love mostly from reading about the characters in his books. I don't know if he has experienced true love with another. I rather doubt it because he hasn't been able to express his feelings thus far with Elizabeth. However, he may think she is not ready. I am not sure she is, but I would have liked for the writer to have made him more relatable and a little more vulnerable with people to be able to communicate his feelings from his own heart. I want him to do that with Elizabeth.
Yes! We might need to focus on the other characters on WCTH and the upcoming fun for FloYo!!! I keep remembering that John Tinker discussed how concerned he was about the When Calls the Heart House being divided. I know it concerns me, too. Another blog I follow closely spoke of it as having "open hands" to accept the outcome.
Like you, I haven't found any redeeming qualities in Christopher, yet, but he's young and perhaps he will change.
Also, to everyone else, I am trying to control my urge to comment to everyone because I comment way too much. Have a great weekend everyone!
Hey, Lauralyn! It feels weird to be commenting to you now after watching this latest episode, but oh well. Lol!
DeleteI will keep my comment short this time, and comment more on your review once it's out. You already know I'm a fan of Joseph. I'm with you, as I loved him from the first episode he was ever in. He brings so much hope, peace, and a spiritually that has really been lacking on the show for awhile.
As for Carson... I don't know about him anymore. (But I'll save my thoughts for my review and yours. :)
And yes! I loved that Bill let Lee try on the serge! (And he rocked it!)
I think every single Heartie out there can agree that FloYo is just the sweetest couple ever!
And you're welcome for the shoutout! You show me different angles and ideas that I had never thought of before. :) I personally really am enjoying Christopher's character, but this latest episode really helped with that. (Again more on that later.)
And it is definitely interesting how each team sees things differently. Someone could definitely write out a whole study on this team craziness. :D
Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts with me! Again, sorry I'm commenting so late. I don't do my blog or my social media on Sundays, so I don't get back to people until afterward. I hope your week is off to a wonderful start! God Bless!
I do believe that Lucas has shown E each and every day how he feels about her. If
ReplyDeletehe comes out now and says how he is truly feeling, it may scare her off - as it did with
N's expression of love a few episodes back. I think it is has been baby steps for L & E
as they find their way. I keep going back to the remarks on the show and during interviews where he says - "he wants E to ultimately be happy" - by L watching & observing, I have a feeling that he will bow out at the end - which makes me sad after watching E & L's
relationship bloom over the 2+ seasons.
Anonymous, I went out and looked at all of the polls, and there was about 11,000 that voted. Now there are over 2.3 million viewers. I am sure that Bryn Bird and John Tinker looked did a statistical analysis. This is going to drive the way they go. i also feel that they have to think about the direction for many years to come. The good News for TL is that we know that for two years he was the chosen suitor. All of the clues are there. Unfortunately it cannot be a win/ win only a win lose. Can the Mountie which we saw for five years really be interesting enough to keep views/ or do they need something fresh and new. i have talked to people that are being drawn in from the heavy advertising, and they hope Lucas wins. I have seen Nathan fans look at E & L videos just in case it goes that way. At the end of the day. I also was thinking that why they brought the Canfields on the show, because of the choice they may make. (Who knows) I find it interesting that N- said she was a good friend. A team N stated that that was the second time N said she was a good friend. In season on when Lucas came to the door E said Welcome home. Time will tell. I feel like you though it would be a huge disappoint it they give it Nathan. You would think they would have started changing his character a little bit.

ReplyDeleteAuntied, I don't think we can discuss that scene that Hallmark took down, and we need to remember to abide by Hope's requests to not share any spoilers. That said, if it has anything to do with that DL book, it would make me not like Lucas. I have a theory about it, but I will wait until Hope shares her next post.
DeleteI made up a fake FB account, but I don't really care to join a private group.
Shelby, so sorry no i did not see anything on the hallmark channel about this. I just saw the fb post. So sorry. Thank You :)
DeleteAuntied, I am certainly not upset with you, so don't be sorry. No worries, please! However, it is be very disappointing that others might view Lucas and his relationship to Elizabeth in that DL light. I understood that you were sharing a theory from a FB post. I think Lucas is too much of a gentleman to be characterized as being like anyone in that book. I haven't looked the book up, but I've seen others mention that it's not a nice book.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should look the book up because they have in the Hope Valley library. No, I don't care to, and maybe I mischaracterizing what little I have heard about the book. I know Lucas likes it, but I am overlooking that part.
DeleteAt this point, i feel that Hallmark writers have taking us all for an emotional roller coaster ride, with out thinking about the fans. Shame on them for doing this to us, and telling us that it will all work out ok! It will not. If nathan wins/ Lucas will be in the shadows. The triangle in my eyes is a disaster waiting to happen. When the final kiss comes, may the lord have mercy on us all. I believe the outcome of 8 will decide whether to keep the show or not. How can E already have chose? Would this not make it too easy for TL. Come on! TL feels like they are be set up, because Nathan has not even had a chance. Where is the mystery in all of this if she has chosen Lucas/ Why are we still looking for clues every single episode. I was going to rent the hallmark channel on frndly tv, but I would rather watch the new crossword puzzle mystery tonight.
DeleteI think they underestimated the impact that having a love triangle go on for almost 3 years would have on the fans of both teams. Most are ready for the love triangle to be gone completely. I know I am. Auntied, Brian Bird said that this episode tonight "may contain the most dramatic sequence since... Season 5." Also, the clip that Hallmark accidentally revealed will have a lot of people talking. I hope everyone can come together after the season has ended because we want the show to be renewed. I like some angst on the show, but one of my favorite seasons was the one where Hope Valley had it's Founder's Day celebration.
DeleteWhat is the triangle right now? E, L, Heart? E,L, Jack? Does Nathan just represent E's past? The founder days celebration was a pleasant time. I know that John Tinker is trying to save the show and they realize that all fans will not be happy with the final decision. They are hoping there will be enough true hearties to want to keep watching the show. Just imaging all of the stars of wcth losing there jobs over a triangle. This would be very sad.
DeleteAuntied, I put my comment to you in the wrong place. It's below. :)
DeleteSome say Nathan didn't stand a chance. Why would he give it to her if he only wanted friendship, not love? As a woman, you don't give a chance to everyone who likes you. You choose. And Elizabeth chose. Nathan is the bridge to her painful past, Lucas is the future. sorry for my english, i speak french.
DeleteAnonymous, I Agree!
DeleteBrian Bird said a couple of weeks ago that the triangle had less pointy edges. I am not sure I see it that way. I respect Erin Krakow, all the cast and John Tinker and the writers, but it would have been nice to not have to deal with the triangle all season. I think I know why they kept it going, (not just for ratings...) but Erin wants us to trust their decisions. I am trying, but it's hard. I believe the show will be renewed because the ratings have been the best ever.
ReplyDeleteIf Erin wants us to trust there decisions they should never have engaged the fans. However this goes down it will point back to them not the fans. A little division is ok, but the hearties are so divided. A show that we all enjoyed is now stressing so many out. I actually heard the rating were down a little. When i look at this the rating seem pretty good to me. I personally feel that Lucas has more to lose, than Nathan. nathan already has Allie, but Lucas has no one. If Nathan did not win E heart, he would at least have allie, but if Lucas does not win E heart he is left in the dark. They have so many characters in this tv show, not sure how Lucas would fit in. Whoever E picks has such a big part in the show. Time will tell!

DeleteI think Erin has enjoyed engaging with the fans. I have to applaud her for that, and I believe she appreciates the Hearties. She felt they had to create a love triangle because of many factors that involved her character. That said, it might have been better to let season 7 have the finale that ended the triangle. Fans have patience, but most wanted a conclusion. The problem is that allowed two great guys to both be leading men, but only one can be with Elizabeth. However, John Tinker said they are planning big things for the one not chosen. I believe they are, and perhaps the show means a little too much to people. It's a fictional show, but other things in life should mean more. The virus and the restrictions it has caused have also weighed heavily on people and caused so many to have to be isolated. So, the program has still added something good to many lives, but I have to blame the fans (myself included for allowing it to have a stronghold in our lives.) I do think the love triangle has caused many fans to obsess about the love interest that Elizabeth would choose, and that hasn't been a good thing, IMO. However, we (some, not all) made it too important and no one did that to us but us.
DeleteI agree that Lucas's best friend in the show is Elizabeth, and I am hoping she will choose him. I think there is still a possibility she will, but if she doesn't, he will still have a leading part. I know he will still be appreciated and loved by his fans, and they will give him an equally important part that allows him to bond with other characters in Hope Valley. They will also understand how important it is to find him a great love interest, but I hope it doesn't take 3 years. SIGH!
I hope no one thinks I was ranting. If so, I hope you will forgive me. I was speaking to myself more than anything. :) I need an edit button.
Shelby - You summed it up nicely! Patience is a virtue especially after three years of waiting to see the final outcome.
DeleteEnjoy your the show!
Thank you, Auntied! I hope you enjoy it when you get to watch it on Tuesday.
DeleteFirst of all, it drives me crazy that people think Elizabeth should choose Nathan just because he has professed his love for her. I didn't get married until my middle 30s. Just because someone professed their love to me or wanted to marry me didn't mean it was right. Also, I didn't feel an obligation to them just because they did so.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think Elizabeth's budding relationship with Lucas has been so tender and has breathed new life into Elizabeth's world. To try and recreate a love story with another mountie, I believe, would miss the mark, and will seem like a replacement. I know the books were always about a teacher and a mountie, but Hallmark has deviated from the books when Jack died. So why now have Elizabeth pick someone in another profession? Lucas has come alongside Elizabeth to encourage and inspire her. His patience and tenderness has showed how much he loves her. When we found out at the beginning of the season that he left because he was jealous when Elizabeth ran to Nathan, he returned because he still hoped for her affection. So romantic. Then he said would honor her decision. Lucas is such a gentleman. I see Elizabeth and Lucas' storyline as exciting and new, and I hope we get to see their romance flourish.
Also, I love watching with my 9 and 7-year-old girls. One is hoping for Elizabeth to marry Nathan and the other is hoping for Elizabeth to marry Lucas. (We don't believe in teams.) However, my daughter who is hoping for Nathan recently said, "I don't like how Nathan treats Elizabeth. She should not marry anyone who treats her that way."
Lizzy, I couldn't agree more! I love the way Lucas encourages and inspires Elizabeth to reach for more. She lights up when she sees him, too! That is so sweet about your girls and who they want to marry, and how they view the characters of Nathan and Lucas. :)
DeleteLizzy- Your Girls have alot of keen insight! I appreciate you sharing your thoughts. i so agree that Lucas has waited patiently for Elizabeth, and feel that he will be rewarded in the end.
DeleteEnjoy the show!
Lizzy - I agree - To watch the relationship with E/L building throughout the last
ReplyDelete2+ seasons to now just switch over to N - would not be E and would not be realistic.
I, too feel that they could have no many new story-lines with E/L for next season - whereas
they can continue to build the relationship with Allie/Nathan.
The only thought that I have running around in my mind is that they will have something
come up to bring L's reputation down and pump up Nathan. This would be so deflating
for TL, as he has stood by her in so many situations and encouraged her. Nathan
on the other hand has been moody and quick frankly not really involved in her day-to-day
living - not in the way that L has. I really do not feel like watching and having everything
fall down around L - but I fear that it will - more than likely starting tonight.
There may be countless future stories with L-E. This couple could give birth to and branch out stories. On the contrary, with Nathan it would be the same worries as with Jack, it would be boring.
DeleteAnd a sudden N-E change would put Elizabeth in a less bright aura. She steps towards Lucas. She said in an interview that she will be the one to lead her partner this season. She will initiate the relationship.
