What Does Season 9 Hold? Part 2
Hello, hello Hearties! I hope you've been having a wonderful week so far! It's crazy hot for me! Like... you can't even go swimming for fear of being baked alive kind of hot.
But enough about the sun's fiery rays... There is exciting news to share! I'm sure most if not all of you have heard by now, but When Calls the Heart Season 9 begins filming July 21st! Eeeeeeeek!!! And from the looks of the schedule it seems we'll be getting either another 12 episode long season or 10 episodes along with a Christmas Special! Of course none of this has been confirmed by the writers or Hallmark, but that's what the schedule appears to indicate. It's pretty exciting! I can't wait to get back to Hope Valley and find out what stories await us!
I also will let you in on a little secret and tell you that I'm currently working on a special LucaBeth project. I'm not sure when it will be done, but I thought I'd tease it a bit. ;)
So, with all the news out of the way let's get to the post. I'm back to continue my three part series, What Does Season 9 Hold? Last week I covered half of the side characters. (And Bill) This week I'm here to cover the other half before ending next week with the former triangle members.
Let's get to it!
Robert & Allie
Robert
Robert has kind of come into his own this past season. He's graduated school, and is now a working man about town, trying to save up for a horse of his own. He also has his own little romance going on with a certain young lady...
So, what do I see for Mr. Wolf? Well, if the writers keep up with his story I think we'll continue to see Robert working odd jobs around town. Maybe more mail delivery, but I actually see him becoming Rosemary's official newspaper delivery man. That job would be so perfect for Robert, and would help him with his goal of wanting to buy a horse. Speaking of which, I wonder if he'll indeed get a horse next season. He'll of course need some riding lessons, which lucky for him, his little lady friend just learned how. So... there's some potential romantic moments there. Speaking of which...
I also think we may see more of his romance (Young love, puppy love, school boy crush... whatever you want to call it.) with Allie. How far will that go? I'm not really sure. I'm not sure if the writers would go so far as to make them kiss. Maybe Allie would give him a peck on the cheek. That would work. But I do think the two of them will continue to be making heart-eyes at each other, and continue paling around. Just getting to know each other and having fun. I'd really like to see them go on some fun adventures together, maybe with Opal as a tag-along. Maybe they'd get lost in the woods, or even build their own clubhouse out there! (That would be so cute!) And of course we'd see them together during town events, such as any dinners, dances, picnics, etc. And with all that being said, should any of this happen you can bet that Robert is going to have some kind of confrontation with Nathan. (Which will be hilarious. Lol!)
Allie
I was going to save Allie for next week's post and put her in Nathan's section but... I decided to put her with Robert instead. :D
This girl had quite an emotional season this year. She learned some life lessons, and took some hard knocks. But... having Robert return her feelings seemed to smooth over some other rough details in her life. Lol!
Next season I think we'll be seeing how Allie deals with Elizabeth being with Lucas. She may have finally realized that her uncle Nathan and Elizabeth will never be a couple, but I do think she may still deal with some disappointment. That or she'll just feel bad for her beloved uncle, especially since I think next season we'll see Nathan still getting over Elizabeth's rejection. (But that's for next week's post. :)
I also wonder if we'll see Allie come to be better friends with Lucas. I'd really like to see that, as the interactions we've had so far have been really fun and sweet. I also.... (Sighs....) really, really, really, REALLY.... want to know what was in the dang box Lucas gave her and Nathan!!!! It was never addressed!!! I get the feeling whatever it is will help both Allie and Nathan see that Lucas isn't such a bad guy after all. (I. Have. To. Know.)
I'm also curious to see if we'll see anymore of Allie's relatives. Maybe Dylan busts out of jail and comes back to take Allie away, due to some complications in the adoption process. Maybe Nathan's mom will come to Hope Valley for the first time. I don't know. But it would be fun to learn more about Allie's relatives, as well as her mother.
And of course I expect to see Allie in school and dealing with any troubles that come with that. Which would lead to her and Elizabeth healing their relationship. That is something I definitely think we'll see next season. Honestly that may be a main storyline for Allie.
Elizabeth is such a role model and mother figure for Allie. Really, Elizabeth may be the first real "mother like figure" Allie has ever known. Her mother died when she was four, so she doesn't remember much if anything, and since then she's been traveling with Nathan. Then when her uncle started to show interest and pursue Elizabeth, it set up this dream in Allie. All she's ever wanted was family. A family that would love her and never leave her. Nathan has given her the father side of things, but... a girl wants a mother. Elizabeth was the closest thing she's really had to one, and so of course Allie hoped she would fall for and marry Nathan. Of course we know... that isn't going to happen. And things weren't really resolved between them before the season ended.
So with all that being said... Elizabeth and Allie are going to have some healing to do in their relationship. I feel like Elizabeth will try really hard to be Allie's friend, but Allie will remain distant at first. But I'm sure all will be well by the end of the season. My question is what will happen to make it so? Will something happen that will heal their friendship? Something scary or dangerous? Or will Allie eventually come around after talking with Elizabeth, Nathan, and maybe even Lucas? That could be fun!
And that about covers what I think may happen/ what I hope will happen with Allie in Season 9. Honestly there are so many great story possibilities for her, and I'm curious to find out what the writers have in store for her character.
The Coulters
Okay... you all probably know what I'm going to say. They. NEED. A. Child!!!!
Rosemary and Lee are the sweetest, kindest, most parent perfect people! They just have to have a child! They just have to! Honestly I really want this situation resolved. Whether they have a child, adopt a child, or never get a child at all... We need answers. I think with all the Covid restrictions and problems last year, it probably limited what they could do, or what they were willing to do. However this year I feel that they can finally pick back up on this storyline, and give us Hearties a definite answer.
Now you may know already what my preference is on this situation as I've talked about it many times before. I would absolutely love to see a pregnant Rosemary. Just the emotional moment of her and Lee learning they're going to be parents, seeing Rosemary with a baby bump, and the idea of them being parents... It's just so perfect! I would love it! However... after going through three seasons with no answers... I really have my doubts as to whether this will actually happen. The longer we go without a resolution or even a hint at them becoming pregnant... the more I doubt this outcome.
However I still see adoption as a total possibility. If When Hope Calls had gotten another season a crossover would have worked perfectly here, but that show seems to have fallen into the mysterious black hole of no return. Either way having the Coulter adopt seems like a very possible, almost likely scenario if they are indeed going to have a child. Otherwise... I fear they may never have one, and will go on just making a difference in the lives of their friends and neighbors. Maybe having Rachel stay with them is the closest they'll ever get to raising a child or... maybe our wishes will finally be granted this season. Who knows...
As to what I see happening for Rosemary, I think next season we'll see her hard at work on her newspaper. I could honestly see things going either way here. The paper could be doing wonderfully, and they'll be working to get it out to even more people, and find amazing stories. Or the paper might just be in it's beginning stages, and Rosemary will be working hard to help it grow and become more popular.
I also see Rosemary chasing down stories, and getting into all kinds of trouble. It could be minor like writing about someone who really didn't want to be written about. Or she could even overhear a conversation and believe it meant one thing, write about it, and then realize it really wasn't all she thought it was... (I mean... she does love gossip. Lol!) Or she could also get into even more danger by trying to uncover the whole mystery of the Pinkertons, and all the buildings being bought up in Hope Valley.
I'm also thinking Rachel may come back next season, (As she pretty much lives with Rosemary and Lee now.) and so we may get to see more of Rosemary and Lee learning how to parent a teenage girl.
As to Lee... That man is going to become mayor. I mean, it's always possible for the writers to change their minds. However there was such an emphasis put on Lee finding a new, deeper purpose in life, and he was so excited to run for mayor. And so I really think that may be his adventure in Season 9. Running for mayor, winning, learning how to be mayor, dealing with all the town issues, having all his friends and neighbors bring him their problems... You get the picture. :D I also wonder if he'll get involved at all with Wyman Walden and the Pinkertons. After all Wyman is trying to buy up the town pretty much. Lee may have to step in and save Hope Valley from these scary guys! (Gasp!)
And of course we'll see Lee and Rosemary being the beautiful couple they are, doing life together. They'll overcome the new challenges headed their way with the newspaper, Lee being mayor, and raising Rachel the way they always have... side by side.
Rachel
I'm not quite sure just what's next for this girl. To be honest it's not even certain if she's coming back. As far as I can tell it's all up to what the writers want to do. It would be a bit odd if she didn't come back after everything we saw in Season 8 and yet... it would be believable if she didn't. It really depends if Christopher comes back. If he does, she has to. It would be really sad to just watch him pine over her the whole season.
As for Rachel herself, I suspect we'll see her coming into her own more this season. She'll be exploring the new and exciting world of being independent as well as possibly learning some good life lessons along the way. She'll probably continue working at the dress shop at first, but I wonder if along the way she'll finally figure out exactly what she wants to do with her life. Whether that's something along the lines of fashion and design, maybe even just staying at the dress shop if she likes it enough. Who knows? Maybe she'll up and move to Hollywood. Lol! Oh, her mother would positively explode at the thought. :D
And of course if Christopher is back, we'll probably see them continue on their sweet romance journey. And... they very well may get into some trouble along the way. But it just makes it even more fun! Lol! I honestly wonder how fast their relationship might progress. They both seem pretty smitten, and they obviously got to spend more time together when Christopher came to see her in Bellingham. Perhaps we'll see a speedy engagement or... maybe they'll just up and elope! Wouldn't that be exciting? It also would cause a crazy amount of trouble with her parents and her uncle and aunt...😬 But I'm just spit balling ideas here.
The Canfields
Well, I think it's safe to say that Hearties fell in love with this family last season. Joseph and Minnie have brought such hope, love, and peace to Hope Valley, and I'm curious what's next for them and their family.
For Joseph I see him stepping fully into his new role as Hope Valley's pastor. We'll probably get to see him standing behind the pulpit, delivering a sermon or two this coming season. It's been awhile since we've seen the town gathered for church, so that could be fun to see.
I also think he'll continue to minister to the people around them, offering advice to those who need it. You know, like he did for Jesse and Clara. I feel like there are a few people right now who need to take a seat on Joseph's swing. ;) Honestly I hope he brought the swing with him to his new row house. It would be fun if it became customary for whoever was in need of advice to come and sit on the swing and talk with Joseph or even Minnie.
I also hope we learn a bit more about Joseph this coming season. We honestly know very little about him, and I would like to know some more about his past, as well as his hopes and dreams.
As to Minnie's possible storylines, I think we'll see more of her being the protective mama she is. No doubt Mr. Landis isn't going to make things easy for Angela, and so Minnie will be right there making sure her baby girl doesn't get hurt. I also think her and Elizabeth will become closer friends, and I wonder if they'll team up in this school issue. I also wonder if Minnie will help Elizabeth in her training to become certified to teach blind students. It would make for some heart-warming moments and help them become closer friends as well as establish trust between the two women.
I also think Minnie will be a listening ear to the people around her, and a well of advice. We already saw how sweet and caring she was to Carson, offering him words of wisdom and being there for him during his time of doubt. I think we'll see her doing more of that this season for the people of Hope Valley. Just being a beacon of hope and peace, supporting the people around her. The perfect job for a pastor's wife.
And just like Joseph, I'd like to learn more about Minnie's past. It sounds like she's been through some incredibly tough and painful times, and I'm curious to learn more about her. Her childhood, where she grew up and what her life growing up was like, as well as what her hopes and dreams are for the future.
As to Angela and Cooper well... Cooper has already fit right in with the other Hope Valley children. We may get a "teacher/student" storyline with him and Elizabeth as she helps him with whatever challenge he may go through. However I think his sister Angela will get more of the focus next season. Obviously she's now apart of Elizabeth's class, so we may see her as well as the other students adjusting to something new. Angela will be adjusting to being in a classroom, while the other students will be adjusting to having a blind student in class, as well as how to include her and be her friend.
There will obviously be challenges, as both Elizabeth and Angela learn something new. And of course Mr. Landis may make some more trouble for them, maybe even the whole school. However I know Elizabeth will not give up, and will do all she can for her students.
Henry & Christopher
And last for today's post, but most certainly not least we have the two people who made up one of my all time favorite storylines last season. If you've read my previous blog posts you'll already be well aware of how much I loved Henry and Christopher's storyline.
Now thankfully we've been assured by Brian Bird that Henry is indeed coming back for Season 9. (Yes!) I would have been so disappointed if he would have been gone for a season. Henry really brings some great stories to the show whether he's causing trouble, creating mystery, or even having heart-warming moments with his son.
As to what I think is next for him...Well... I think it's safe to say that trouble is coming for Henry Gowen next season. With his health issues, and that list of names he gave Bill, not to mention a relative of his former henchman Charles Spurlock is now in town guarding Henry's old cabin... yeah. I'd say trouble is coming in one way or another.
I think he's still going to be having troubles with his health. I almost wonder if things will kind of come to a head and he may need more medical attention than before. Maybe even heart surgery. I think him and Faith's storylines could be combined in a way. Faith is now operating on her own, and I suspect that there will be at least one major health crisis. Perhaps Henry will collapse and Faith will decide he needs surgery. It would continues Henry's health storyline, while giving Faith her defining doctor moment, therefore continuing her storyline as well. It seems logical anyway.
I also wonder if Bill will start looking into the mine disaster, which in turn may cause trouble for Henry. Bill may find a reason to arrest Henry or maybe... someone doesn't want Bill to start looking into the case, therefore making Bill and maybe even Henry in danger. After all Henry is a man of connections and secrets. I'm sure he has dirt to spill on lots of people. People who may come after him to make sure he stays quiet... (Dum, dum, DUM!!!)
As to the man's love life... I really, really have my doubts about Abigail coming back. I don't know. I mean... anything is possible at this point. I haven't heard anything about her coming back. I know Brian Bird and Erin Krakow would love to have her back, but they're just not sure it's a possibility. IMO it seems like BB and Erin want her back, but I don't know if Hallmark will let her. That's just my thoughts, however, not facts. But I do think we may see Abigail mentioned this coming season. After all Henry did take off somewhere at the end of Season 8. Was it to go see his son? Or maybe to go visit Abigail? Will Henry come back with a picture of him and Abigail, showing us where he's been? I'm not sure. But I do think Abigail may be mentioned, as she was quite a bit last season.
And of course I expect to see more of Henry and his son. Now how much depends on whether Christopher comes back or not. If he doesn't for some reason then maybe we'll just hear Henry talking about him and what he's doing, combined with a nostalgic picture or two. However if he does come back I fully expect to see Henry and his son's relationship explored further. Maybe we'll even learn more about Henry's past, his ex-wife, (If that's what she is...) and why they split up. Goodness, maybe she'll even come to Hope Valley! And maybe her current husband will accompany her... Really the possibilities are endless for drama with this guy.
As to Christopher, again this all relies on him coming back in Season 9. If he does, I suspect he'll be doing more of the same. Learning the oil business, getting to know his father, and... possibly pursuing Rachel more if she comes back as well.
Again I could really see Christopher's mother coming to Hope Valley now that her son is there. And Christopher may have to deal with more trauma concerning his father's health, and maybe even get involved in the whole mine disaster if Bill pursues it.
And of course we'll hear more about his romance with Rachel. If she doesn't come back we'll probably hear him just talking about her and the time he had with her in Bellingham as well as see him glance at a picture of the two of them. But if she does come back I expect we'll see their romance progress, and get lots of sweet and romantic moments. This could also bring some conflict if the Coulters and Rachel's parents aren't for the romance. I mean, you never know. Did Rachel's parents even approve of him? Or did they send him away and him and Rachel continued to see each other secretly? I don't know. It just leaves lots of fun questions for the season to answer.
And that's all for this post! I'll be back next week with the final post in this three part series talking about Nathan, Lucas, Elizabeth, as well as what I'd like to see in general on the show!
Thank you so much for reading! Feel free to share your hopes and dreams for these characters below or on my Twitter page! Have a wonderful day! God Bless!

Love your ideas! One thing I think would be fun is Allie and Rosemary having a project together. I think their dynamic would be amusing. Maybe even discussing potential love interests for Nathan. Not sure I want Allie actively matchmaking again but maybe she enlists Rosemary's help instead.
ReplyDeleteFiona and Allie might be fun too irregardless of any potential pairing of Fiona and Nathan. Fiona's modern vibe could influence an impressionable young lady and create some entertaining parent moments for Nathan.
Love the Canfields and Coulters so welcome storylines with them like you noted.
Not sure about Henry. He has really grown on me over the years. Curious what happens next for him.
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed the post!
DeleteI can only imagine all the trouble... (Cough!) I mean fun Rosemary and Allie could get into trying to find a match for Nathan. Lol! And with Rosemary now running a newspaper... Oh, boy... :D
And I could definitely see Fiona and Allie becoming friends.... and making some trouble for Nathan. Lol! And I agree. I'm very curious what's next for Henry!
Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts with me! God Bless!
Once again, interesting post! I did hear about ‘When Calls the Heart’ starting production on July 21st. But, because this schedule is similar to Season 8’s filming schedule, I don’t know if we’ll get a Christmas movie this year. I hope so, though, especially since we didn’t get one in 2020. Like before, I’ll be sharing my thoughts in the list below:
ReplyDelete1. I’m wondering if the reason why Robert wants a horse is in preparation to become a Mountie? Back in, I think, season 7, Robert expressed the idea of, one day, joining the Mounties. He even had a heart-to-heart conversation about it with Elizabeth and Nathan. Since that hasn’t been resolved, I’m curious to see if Robert’s new jobs will lead in that direction.
2. On the subject of Lee and Rosemary becoming parents; I’ve heard the creative team haven’t decided what that next step will be. I don’t know what has taken them so long, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see. For Rosemary, I think an interesting conflict would be if, while working on the newspaper, she receives information that could affect the reputation of one of Hope Valley’s residents. Throughout the season, Rosemary would struggle with whether or not to publish the information. For Lee, I don’t think he’ll become mayor. Remember in Season 8 when Lee told Rosemary he wanted to build things again? I think he’ll set aside some time to build either pieces of furniture or other handmade items and sell them in his small business. Personally, I hope a new character swoops in and becomes the mayor. That would make a fascinating dynamic!
3. Like you, I’m not sure where Rachel’s story could go. The world is her oyster, so I think just about anything is possible. However, I think it all depends on whether the actress who portrays Rachel wants to come back to the show. If she does, then I think the writers will come up with something that suits the character.
4. I agree with you about the Canfield family; they did become fan favorites in Season 8! I would love to see them receive a major storyline, as their stories were overshadowed by the love triangle. Now that Minnie has begun helping Clara and Bill at the café, I wonder if she’ll end up buying it? Maybe it’ll become Minnie’s Café? Honestly, I think it would make sense, since Abigail is no longer in Hope Valley and the discussion of the café being sold was brought up in Season 8.
5. This is another point I agree with you on; Henry’s storyline was Season 8’s best plot! My biggest hope for Henry is for him to find true love. However, I’d want to see him fall in love with a new character. I highly doubt Abigail is ever coming back to Hope Valley. In fact, anytime the subject of Lori possibly returning to the show is brought up, I’ve never heard Lori herself entertain the idea. It seems like everybody but Lori is interested in seeing her come back.
Hi Sally! I'm glad you enjoyed the post!
DeleteI too wonder if the writers plan to continue Robert's storyline of wanting to become a Mountie. Although I hope it doesn't happen too soon, as I'd be afraid he'd leave the show if he did.
Very interesting idea about Rosemary having info on someone and deciding whether or not to publish it. That could be good. As for Lee I'm not quite sure exactly what the writers plan to do with him. It could go either way at this point. He was just so excited about the idea of becoming mayor, it feels like he just might become Hope Valley's next mayor. But I guess we'll have to wait and see.
I'm with you. Anything could happen for Rachel at this point. I'm curious to see what the writers decide to do.
I really think the love triangle messed up a lot of stuff last season, so I'm definitely looking forward to that not being a storyline in S9. And I could totally see the cafe being called, "Minnie's Cafe." I'm curious if she'll buy the place or not too.
Yes! Henry had a wonderful storyline! And I so agree! Henry deserves to find true love! The problem is that he seems so in love with Abigail, and she doesn't seem to be coming back anytime soon if at all. Yeah... I'm not sure what the writers are going to do there.
Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts with me! God Bless!
Hi Hope!
ReplyDeleteSeems like forever since I have commented on your blog- the off season is sooo long!
A couple of things I wanted to comment on but first, I love the new look of your blog! It looks great! And especially love the new header with our couple center stage. Beautiful work my friend!
First of all, I will actually be surprised if Rachel and Christopher come back. They absolutely could, but last season just had way too much in each episode, so I am hoping for a less rushed season this year. Since we already have the Canfields as a permanent family--which I love--we really don't need more characters. Just my opinion, and whatever the writers decide to do is okay. I did love Henry and Christopher together.
I'm actually surprised by the Allie/Robert relationship since she is only about 13, I think. Of course things were different 100 years ago, and there are only so many kids on the show, but I thought they might have him like one of the older girls on there. I thought at her age we would see more of a crush situation- maybe on one of the older men like Jesse, Lucas, etc. I hate to see them grow her up too fast. She had quite the story last season with so much going on with her uncle, Robert, and the triangle. I almost think she moved from kid to young lady too fast, but it is television and writers do what they do.
I actually would like to see Abigail and Cody come back, mainly because I have an awesome idea for a story for Cody! lol Not that it would ever happen on the show since I'm not a writer, sigh, but it would be so perfect. Perhaps I will just have to start another fanfic and include it.
As for the Coulter's, at this point I would love to see them adopt. Perhaps a girl of 4 or 5? That way we could see them as parents, and Lee spoiling the heck out of his daughter. Maybe later when the twins are older Rosemary might end up pregnant. I think it's just so difficult to have yet another set of twins on the show is why they haven't had Clara or Rosie become pregnant. (Especially now with Covid)
Great post my friend! Thank you so much!
:)
Hey, Sue!
DeleteOh, yes the off season is SOOO long! And thank you so much about the new look! I'm glad you like it!
I definitely agree things could go either way for Rachel and Christopher. I could see them coming back or people just commenting how they're back in Bellingham. I really enjoyed both Henry and Christopher as well as Rachel and Christopher's storylines so I would totally be interested to see more of them. But... I really have to agree with you. There are just SO MANY characters, and I think the writers need to focus more on a select group in each episode. And so if both C&R didn't come back that would definitely help. I just loved Henry and Christopher's storyline so much!
I guess Nathan's statement about Allie being "10 going on 17" is still true. Lol! She is definitely very young for any real romance. But I do think it would be cute if her and Robert became best friends who eventually married when they were older. But, oh my goodness! That would be hilarious if she developed a crush on Lucas! That would be so fun! Lol! It really is crazy how much she's changed since she first came on the show. I'm currently re-watching S6 and wow. She looked so much younger back then.
Well, now you've got me curious about that Cody story. :) I'm fine if they don't come back, but it could be fun if they did. Abigail was Elizabeth best friend and it would be fun to see them reunited. And Cody... wow! Did you see the video he made while visiting Hope Valley? Man, that boy has grown up!
I agree. The Coulters may not become pregnant as having another set of twins on set would be very difficult. It could be fun if they adopted, and I so agree! Whether they adopt a boy or a girl I want the child to be quite young. Around 4-5 years old. It would be just so cute! And It would be fun to see the Coulters learning how to parent a young child.
Well, now that I've talked your ear off, I guess I'll stop for now. Lol! Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts with me! God Bless!
