What Does Season 9 Hold? Part 1
Happy, happy Wednesday Hearties! I hope you all are having an amazing week so far!
So last week I put out a tweet asking you guys what you'd like to see me blog about next, and the majority of people said the same thing. What do I think is next for Season 9? And so that is exactly what I'm going to be discussing today! What does Season 9 hold for us Hearties? Obviously this past season we saw some romances blossom while others... more or less withered.
Now, as you may be aware, there are SO MANY characters to talk about. Lol! Last year I went character by character, but I've decided to do things a little differently this time. This off-season I have divided our lovely list of characters (And storylines) into three posts discussing what I hope to see/ what I think may happen in Season 9 for each character. I of course will be saving the main characters for last so stayed tuned for that post in the coming weeks. ;)
Today's post will focus mainly on the side characters, with the exception of Bill. :)

Fiona & Hickam
So first off let’s start with our newest comedic duo Fiona and Hickam!
Now don’t freak out, Hearties. Just because I stuck their names together
doesn’t at all mean I am calling them a couple. They're not. (Not yet anyway….
Hehe.. :) Honestly I really have my doubts as to whether they ever will become a
couple. But they were together a lot this past season and so I can justify pairing them for this section. :)
Fiona
This girl has come a long way hasn’t she? She’s gone from being Hope Valley’s phone operator to becoming the town barber, to actually teaming up with Hickam on the oil company, and even running for mayor! This past season we have seen Fiona blossom into her own person, and chase her dreams. And I think we will see even more of this in Season 9.
Now I don’t think Fiona is going to become mayor. That position is
reserved for Lee. However I do think we will see more of her teaming up with
Hickam in the oil company. I even think she may become a part of the company. I
also think Wyman Walden is going to be causing her some trouble at the barber
shop, possibly even making her quit of her own will. (Honestly who would want to work for that guy?)
Really I think Fiona will just be figuring out even more what exactly it is she wants to do with her life. Where she fits in. What her dreams and goals are. What makes her happy and fulfilled. I also believe she may FINALLY get a permanent love interest. You know. The one she’s actually going to stick with. Her one true love.
As to who this will be… I really don’t know. As of now I’d say it’s between Mike and Nathan, unless the writers bring in a brand new guy next season but… We have enough characters as it is. Lol! However when it comes to who I want her to be with… for now I’m going to have to say Mike. Yes, yes… I know there has been talk of her possibly being for the guy Elizabeth rejected, and that Kevin McGarry is currently dating Kayla Wallace, and that there are a lot of Hearties who really want Fiona and Nathan together but… Sigh… I’m just not a fan of that idea. Not yet anyway.
Fiona has become very business minded this past season, and that’s not
exactly what I want in a girl for Nathan. Now the fact that Kevin and Kayla are
dating definitely makes me rethink the idea of their characters being a couple for
sure as… that would be adorable.😍 However all that aside, I’m just not a fan of
the idea of Fiona and Nathan together. Maybe my mind would change if they started a
romance in Season 9, and I saw them together. Maybe they would be so cute and
in love that I’d do a complete 180. Who knows? After all we may have even gotten a slight bit of foreshadowing when she fixed Allie's hair and they connected over fishing.
All I know for now is that I really liked Mike and Fiona this past season. They are so like-minded in their goals in life, and have a wonderful dynamic. They’re funny, and cute, and I could absolutely see them making a very sweet couple. Who knows? Maybe one day they would take over the oil company from Lucas and be a husband and wife oil team!
Mike
As for what’s next for this sweet guy, I definitely see him making strides in the oil business. He’s probably going to be working hard on his oil line, most likely with Fiona by his side. I'm curious if he'll become an even bigger role in the company, possibly being a partial owner with Lucas. I'm not sure what Henry is going to do now that he's given the reins to Mike, but for now Gowen seems totally out of the oil picture. So yeah. Basically I see Mike coming into his own as an oil man, and possibly rising up in the company.
As to romance... I think he may possibly try and pursue Fiona. Or he may at least want to. I get the feeling Fiona may turn him down before he gets a chance. But who knows? Maybe Fiona will let him take her to dinner or something so she can get to know him. It really all depends on what direction the writers want to go. If Fiona is not for Nathan, then I see no reason not to go full steam ahead with a Fiona and Mike romance. Honestly it could be so cute!
Faith & Carson
That’s right, people. These two are so messed up right now I’m not even going to call them by their team name. Because they’re not a team…. Because Carson up and left… and Faith told him to… but she didn’t want him to… yet she would have been mad if he hadn’t… but she was surprised he did. (Crickets chirp as I silently shake my head in dismay…)
Carson
What do I hope/ think is next for this guy? I… honestly don’t know. I mean, I don’t even know at this point if the dude is coming back next season at all. He really rubbed me the wrong way when he called the Infirmary a “relic of the past.” I mean… ouch! The man seemed to turn into a different person over night, and the once loyal and friendly doctor decided that Hope Valley wasn’t big enough for him. That he’d be wasting his talents by staying there taking care of his friends. Again… ouch.
I honestly would be okay if he didn’t come back this season, but I
wouldn’t absolutely hate it if he did either. Carson has never been a favorite
character of mine. My favorite season for him was when he first arrived in Season 4. Back then he had this depth, and even a bit of mystery to him.
However if he does come back it better either be for absolute good or… to
take Faith back to Baltimore with him. (More on that in a bit.)
As to what I see happening next for him varies on whether or not he comes back. If he doesn't well... then I'll just assume he's in Baltimore, living out his calling. However if he does, I can see two things happening. One would be he comes back having realized his heart and calling is in Hope Valley, and he'll be trying to pursue Faith again. (And he'd probably propose before the season is over.) The second option would be he comes back to visit, more sure than ever that his calling is in Baltimore, and him and Faith get things straightened out once and for all. Speaking of the girl....
Faith
Faith has never been a favorite character of mine either. Really if I’m
being honest she is probably one of my least favorite characters. I’ve just
never been a fan of her. Henceforth my comment earlier about Carson coming back
to take her with him. I know it sounds harsh but… I really wouldn’t mind if
both Faith and Carson left to Baltimore. (Sorry, Paul and Andrea! It's just personal preference.)
However I do have to applaud Faith’s loyalty to Hope Valley. She’s literally lost three guys due to staying there, and yet her love for the small town and it’s residents has never wavered. And I respect that.
And so my condition for next season is this…. Faith either needs to stay and move on from Carson. (Carson being totally gone for good.) Or Carson needs to come back, propose to Faith and they both stay in Hope Valley. Or they both leave. That works too. Just basically no more push-pull tension… weirdness. You know?
As to what I think is next for Faith… Well she is now Hope Valley’s only
doctor for the time being, and so I think she’ll be getting used to her new
role. There will probably be some medical issues throughout the season,
probably some with Henry as he just seems to keep declining in his health. I can see there being at least one big medical dilemma with someone in Hope Valley and Faith will have to learn how to deal with it on her own. It could be her defining moment as a doctor, and give her the confidence that she can really do this.
I also think that Faith will be getting over Carson, should he not return. The poor girl just can’t seem to find a guy that wants her the way she is, where she is.
As to romance… I’m really not sure. If Carson doesn’t come back there is
always the possibility that Faith could fall for someone new. (Just NOT Nathan.
Just no.) But she may be a bit romance shy after her past experiences,
especially with how much she loved (Probably still loves) Carson. Who knows
really. Maybe this season will just be one of healing, and learning her new
role as Hope Valley's only doctor. Anything is possible at this point.
Bill & Molly
These two got quite the hilarious story last season didn't they? Lol! Both of them are just so stubborn, and determined...and surprisingly work pretty well together.
Bill
Sadly our beloved Bill didn't get all that much screen time this past season. He also didn't have many storylines and the ones he did have weren't super significant. So it's my hope to see a little more of Bill next season, and get some more of the storylines I enjoyed with him in Seasons 6 and 7.
I want some more mystery, crime, and intrigue for him to be involved in. And I believe he will be. Henry has given him the names he needs to start the mine investigation. I'm wondering if Bill will sort of secretly begin investigating the case, get the answers he needs, but try and keep Henry's name out of it. Bill will also most definitely be dealing with the arrival of the Pinkertons, and any trouble they cause. After all, he's pretty much the only person in town who may know about the first Spurlock that came to Hope Valley. (Other than Elizabeth of course...) Of course Bill wasn't around when all the craziness happened with Charles Spurlock, but you never know. Maybe Jack told him about the ordeal.
Bill also may have to put Wyman Walden in his place as we all know that guy is going to be nothing but trouble.
And of course Bill is going to be right by Elizabeth's side as she fights for her students. It's funny as he's kind of her lawyer now, and I'm curious how involved he'll become in the school case.
I also want to see more of those heart-touching moments between him and Elizabeth and Clara. He's really become a friend and a father-figure to both women and it was so sweet and even funny at times to watch their interactions. So I hope to see more of that. I also would really like to see him playing with Little Jack more as well, because that would be so sweet!
I also think this next season will either solidify or dissolve the Bill and Molly romance. It was surprising to me how much I did enjoy them together. If you would have asked me about the potential pairing before this past season I would have probably made gagging noises and said a firm no. But after watching them together... they kind of grew on me. Molly really is the only woman in town who can wrangle Bill, and Bill has that Mountie past and air of danger and mystery that seems right up Molly's ally.
Do I think they'll become a couple? I'm not quite sure. Bill has quite a "kiss and run" past. Lol! First Abigail, then Dottie, and then AJ Foster. I feel it really depends on what the writers want to do. If they really like them together then chances are they'll probably share their first kiss next season. But I also feel it would be just as easy for the writers to toss their romance to the bin, and say "It just didn't work out." However I definitely can see things working out... At least for one more season. Lol! (Just don't let him kiss you, Molly, until you make him say, "I do." Lol!)
Molly
This fiery lady doesn't always get a whole lot of screen time, but last season we saw her get some fun and sweet plotlines. And honestly I'm hoping for more of the same. Seeing her tactics in trying to rope Bill (Should the writers decide to go that route) and being the amazing friend she is to Florence. (As well as being the town gossip. :D )
I wonder if this next season will have a bit of struggle for Molly. She just watched her best friend get married and now will be watching the newly weds in their married bliss. While of course she will be so, so happy for her friend, I wonder if it will make Molly feel a little... lonely. Lacking in romance. Maybe even remembering her own beloved late husband Patrick. And then of course she'll turn her eyes on Bill and pursue him with a gusto. Lol!
Team Classe
Well these two had quite the... rough season. Wouldn't you say? But thankfully the season ended with this sweet couple as love birds once more, as they headed off on a wonderful second honeymoon
So what do I hope to see next for these two? Well... what I'd like to see greatly differs from what I think could happen. I have been waiting, and waiting, AND WAITING for Jesse to build him and Clara that house. I'd so love to see a new building added to our beloved show. A sweet little country house with a barn just outside of town. But... like I said I've been waiting a long time for this to happen and so I'm very doubtful if this will actually happen in Season 9. I do believe it is SO time for Jesse to start building something! I actually wonder if the whole storyline in Season 8 about them losing all their money was just so they couldn't build the house. Who knows... I also am left to wonder how on earth they don't have enough money by now as Clara has been working like a mad woman since Season 6 and Jesse just keeps getting promoted higher and higher in Lee's company. AND Jesse sold his land in Season 7 to Henry for more than he bought it. Surely they have to have enough money by now to do something! (Okay, okay... rant over... ;)
Anyhow, along with a house I think Clara becoming pregnant is also totally a possibility. I mean... they did go on a second honeymoon so... It's totally possible for her to come back and announce she's pregnant.😉 Then all season long Jesse will be racing to build a house for his family. Honestly that would be my dream scenario for next season. However... I think this could only happen if Rosemary and Lee are not going to have a child and adopt instead. If that's the case then Clara getting pregnant is definitely more of a possibility. However I still have my doubts as to this actually happening.
Other than those two ideas I see more of the same happening for Team Classe. Clara working a thousand and one jobs, Jesse doing well and advancing in Lee's business, (Probably getting in some kind of trouble or danger) and the two of them just learning how to do married life together.
FloYo
(Happy sigh....) One of the best things to come out of Season 8 was this beautiful couple. I began advocating for them back after Season 6's finale, but I had no idea how sweet and precious they'd be until this past season. Florence and Ned are perfect for each other and it's so fun that they are now a married couple! I mean... Florence is now Mrs. Yost! Wow! The two people who have been single since the beginning of the show are now a newly married couple!
Obviously I believe this next season will have Florence and Ned exploring this new world of being a married couple. There may be challenges, especially with how quickly they wed. They'll be getting to know each others quirks and habits. But there will definitely be some beautiful and heartfelt moments as they show each other just how much they love each other.
I also wonder if we'll see Ned learning how to be a step-father to Florence's son Paul. (Now that we've finally seen his face. Lol!) I definitely think the writers should explore that road a bit next season. It would be so sweet to see Ned being a father to Paul, especially since Ned never had a son. I think that would make for some great moments. I also wonder if we'll get to meet Florence's daughter for the first time.
And of course we have to see Ned's invention of the band-aid shoot him to fame and fortune. :D
And that's all for this post! Next week I'll be covering characters like the Coulters, the Canfields, and Henry so stay tuned for that! Then for the "finale" of sorts I will be discussing what I see next for our former triangle members, as well as what I'd like to see next on the show in general!
Thank you so much for reading! Please feel free to leave your thoughts below or on my Twitter page as to what you'd like to see happen next for these characters! Have an amazing day! God Bless!

I'd like to see Fiona try to keep Hickam in a friend zone but eventually catch feelings. Regardless, their quirkiness together is entertaining.
ReplyDeleteCarson *was* the best in season 4--he felt more complex and interesting. Unless the actor wants out of the show, I think Carson will come back and propose. I just don't see putting Faith with anyone else after they courted so long. (Although I wish Shane Cantrell came back for Faith's love interest, just sayin'.)
I hope your wish about Clara and Jesse having a house comes true. I'd also like to see Jesse step up in the way of being a mentor of sorts to some young boy. He's had so many people being good role models in his life, I think it would be neat to see him pay that forward. Plus it would show growth in him. Given his past, he could help a troubled teen learn how to appreciate an honest path of life.
I enjoyed reading your predictions and look forward to seeing the other posts! Have a wonderful week!
Thank you, Ann! I'm glad you enjoyed the post!
DeleteHickam and Fiona really compliment each other so well. And I can totally see your idea of Fiona trying to be just friends with him, but eventually realizing she has feelings for him happening!
I so glad I'm not the only person who thinks Carson was the best in Season 4. I agree he was more complex, and interesting as a character. From what I heard it sounds like it's up to John Tinker as to whether Carson comes back or not. Or at least the higher ups on the show. Paul said he hasn't heard if they want his character to come back or not. It sounds like it's up in the air for now.
I SO hope Jesse starts building that house! And it could be fun to see Jesse become a mentor for a young boy. He's never really been in that role, as usually he's the one being mentored. Lol!
Thank you so much for reading, and sharing your thoughts with me! I hope you have an amazing day! God Bless!
Thank you, Lizzy! I'm so glad you enjoyed the post!
ReplyDeleteI definitely think Fiona and Hickam compliment each other well, and I really enjoy their chemistry. And I hadn't heard that Kevin and Kayla said they didn't want to be paired. Lol! I get that, and honestly I would be fine if they weren't. I'm just not sold on the idea of Nathan and Fiona as a couple. I'd prefer it if Fiona went with Hickam and someone new was brought in for Nathan.
And wow! I don't know if Carson and Faith kissed this past season! That either had to due with Covid or their very strain relationship. Either way I really hope everything gets sorted out between them for good.
You do make a good point about Jesse and Clara. I think they're still learning how to do married life together, so it would be helpful if they did that first before having a child. Besides, with Jesse's history he'd probably be lost in the woods somewhere while Clara was giving birth. :D
And you make good points about FloYo. I agree I think their relationship will continue to be very sweet and beautiful. They've both been married before, and are more mature. Plus they've known each other for a long time now. I think there may be some challenges, as there always are, but also some sweet and wonderful moments as well!
Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts with me! God Bless!
I discovered your blog through Twitter and, I have to say, I enjoyed what I read so far! While I do agree with some of the points you made, I also have some thoughts of my own. I’ll share those below in the following list:
ReplyDelete1. I would be interested in seeing Fiona form a relationship with Tom Thornton. Now, I know he isn’t featured on the show often. But, because both Tom and Fiona are businesspeople, I want to see what that dynamic would look like on screen.
2. I read a headline that stated Paul Greene would be appearing on a new show. I don’t know if this means Paul is leaving ‘When Calls the Heart’. But, if that’s the case, then I guess it’s time for both Carson and Faith to move on. For me, Faith and Carson’s storyline was the most disappointing. Before the season started, I was expecting a subplot with a similar concept to ‘Doctor Quinn: Medicine Woman’. Sadly, that’s not what we got.
3. My thoughts on Bill and Mollie’s relationship are similar to yours. At first, I wasn’t thrilled with the idea. However, as the season went on, I ended up not minding them together. It will be interesting to see where Bill’s story goes, especially when it comes to Elizabeth’s school case. But I’ll save those thoughts for when you talk about Elizabeth.
4. I have a theory for why we haven’t seen Jesse build his and Clara’s house yet. Do you remember back in Season 2, when Rosemary wanted a theater? Since then, we haven’t seen it. Even when Rosemary was figuring out her next career choice, she chose to start a newspaper for the town. This means the show’s creative team can use space they already have on set. I think the reason why we haven’t seen places like Rosemary’s theater or Jesse and Clara’s house is because there is no room in the show’s budget to build a new set piece.
5. While I’m happy to see Ned and Florence together, I felt their wedding preparations were incredibly rushed. Whenever a couple has gotten married on ‘When Calls the Heart’, the build-up to their wedding always happens way too quickly. This is one of the show’s flaws that has bothered me since Season 3, when Rosemary and Lee got married. I wish the next couple to become engaged would consider having a Christmas wedding, so that it can be featured in a future Christmas movie.
Thank you! I'm so glad you're enjoying the blog!
DeleteFiona and Tom would be an interesting pairing but... I'm pretty set on Tom being for Elizabeth's sister Julie. Ever since their romance started in S2 I haven't really found anyone I like more for him. But thanks for the idea. :)
I hadn't heard that about Paul! Hmm... This makes me wonder if he's not coming back to WCTH for S9. But anything is possible at this point. However I would also be okay with Carson and Faith moving on from the show. I don't know what happened to their storyline. They were so sweet and in love through seasons 6-7. Now things are such a mess.
Yes, it's interesting, isn't it? I never would have paired Bill and Molly together but their dynamic was fun and the idea of them as a couple grew on me. Not 100% sold on them however and would maybe still pick different love interests for both characters. But I wouldn't hate it if they did turn out to be a permanent couple. It could be fun actually. :)
I too wonder if the creative team just didn't want to/couldn't spend money on a new building and that's why Jesse never built him and Clara's house. I understand that and I really don't mind them living in the cafe. However I think it would be a fun storyline to see him building their dream house, so I hope one day we get to see that.
I do agree that FloYo's wedding prep happened quite fast, but that may have had to do with the fact that they're not main characters. But then again like you mentioned, Lee and Rosemary's wedding happened pretty fast too. The one that bothered me was Jack and Elizabeth's wedding as that was very rushed. But I think that maybe had to do with the fact that Dan was leaving the show so they had to speed things up. But I think the writers could totally do a Christmas wedding if they wanted to. Not sure who would be getting married but it could be such a pretty wedding!
Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts with me! I hope you're having a wonderful weekend! God Bless!
Loved this post!
ReplyDeleteFloYo was the best thing to come out of season 8, other than our couple getting together-finally- and Henry's son coming to town. I just loved their moments together and how sweet they were to each other.
I totally enjoyed Bill and Molly's flirtatious banter in S8, but I'm just not convinced they belong together. I need to see where they take them in S9.
Before S8, I wanted Fiona and Nathan together. Now that they are a real life couple, it probably won't happen and I totally love her and Mike together! Didn't know that I would, but with her so outgoing and him more reserved, they sooo work together! Plus they have similar interests.
Carson and Faith have never been a fav of mine. I hate to say it, but I don't like Faith very much. Nothing against the lovely actress, I just don't connect with that character. And I liked Carson much better before that pairing. I'm curious what will happen this season and whether Paul is returning to the show.
I didn't dislike Team Classe until season 8. I thought her character was moody and emotional and that was a no for me. I hope they get them on track this season and I can like them again.
Thanks again for your posts! Love them!
:)
Thanks, Sue!
DeleteFlorence and Ned were SO sweet and precious together! Honestly I didn't know how good they'd be together until this last season. They're perfect for each other and I'm curious to see what's next for them in S9.
I agree I enjoyed Bill and Molly too. They made me laugh and had a fun dynamic. However... I'm not sure if they're going to stay together. Honestly if it was up to me I might pick different love interests for both of them, but I'm not completely against the idea of them as a couple either. Like you I have to see where the writers take them in S9.
I'm not sure if Fiona and Nathan will be a couple either, which I'm actually very okay with. I was never a fan of the idea of them as a couple. I'd prefer someone else for Nathan. However... Fiona and Mike work SO well together! Mike is literally the first guy I've actually liked Fiona with, and they could make such a sweet couple!
Girl, I'm right with you. Faith and Carson have never been favorites of mine either. Honestly they were probably my least fav couple on the show. Just not my cup of tea. I'm very curious if Carson is coming back in S9 or not. If he is he's got some points to earn with me after all his comments about the infirmary and after ditching his friends. (Including the woman he claimed to love...)
Oh... what happened to sweet Team Classe? They were so in love before and frankly they should still be in the romantic bliss of being newly weds. I don't know what happened to them, and I hope the writers fix their story next season.
Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts with me! I love to hear what you thought! I hope you're having a fantastic weekend so far! God Bless you my friend!
