       Elizabeth is Hope Valley's beloved school teacher, widow of Constable Jack Thornton, and mother of Little Jack. 

       Coming from her wealthy home in Hamilton, she traveled west to what was then Coal Valley, to end up teaching in a saloon, while trying to give the children a better future. Along the way she met her best friend Abigail Stanton, and her future husband Jack Thornton.

       Elizabeth has weathered many storms in her life. That includes being held hostage by criminals, losing her job to a fake scandal, and the ultimate death of her husband after a few short months of marriage.

       Now she lives happily raising her son, and continues to make a difference in the lives of the children she teaches and others around her.
